Melee equipment help

Namn

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I've just started playing again after some years off. Jagex have introduced loads of new equipment and I really have no clue of what gear I should have.

My combat stats are:

93 attack, 90 strenght, 99 defence, 99 magic, 99 prayer and 80 ranged

I will be slaying until i reach 99 attack and strenght and have ~50-60m to spend on gear. what is the best set up I can get?

currently I own a set of guthans, drag armour with chain and whip.

It's great you know what you're talking about rustiod. Everything you've said is 100% accurate a true.

That being said...your a [bleep]ing [bleep] douchebag, and none of your advice will ever (or should ever) be taken seriously because of it.

disregard good advice because the giver is a douche

Ok, first off, beat Temple at Sennestien. Get curses. Turmoil all tasks and soul split for healing - this should make your guthans obsolete. Next, beat Smoking Kills and work towards a full slayer helm. Then slay until you can get 70 summon (depending on how long you've been away you might not need to do this.)

As for gear, black mask until you can make a slayer helm, then slayer helm. I'd suggest veracs for gear right now, as it's got decent defence and prayer and doesn't cost too much. (You'll want to ditch this for better gear eventually.)

Get a dragon defender, then work towards (I'd say) 88 herblore. 85 if you don't mind stewing....

I'm not 100% positive on the summoning since the main use for slayer is healing, because you already have soul split if you beat Temple at Sennestien.

Work towards a rapier from Dungeoneering if you don't have dungeoneering.

You should always slay with super att/str pots.

Squab unleashes Megiddo! Completed all quests and hard diaries. 75+ Skiller. (At one point.) 2000+ total. 99 Magic.
[spoiler=The rest of my sig. You know you wanna see it.]

my difinition of noob is i dont like u, either u are better then me or u are worst them me

Buying spins make you a bad person...don't do it. It's like buying nukes for North Korea.

Well if it bothers you that the game is more fun now, then you can go cry in a corner. :shame:

your article was the equivalent of a circumcized porcupine

The only thing wrong with it is the lack of a percentage for when you need to stroke it.

Sell drag, its cosmetic at this point for its pricetag. Veracs skirt with a prossy top will work fine for what you need. Dragon boots and your highest level RFD gloves as well. For capes the three best as the ardy cape (3) which has+ 6 stab+ 6 prayer. The fire cape, and the SW cape from Nomads Requiem which has+ 12 prayer.

Armadyl Drops : 4 Hilts; 3 Chestplates; 2 Chainskirts; 1 Helmet; 1 Buckler; 2 Shard 1; 2 Shard 2; 1 Shard 3

Nex : 1 Zaryte Bow

Kalphite King : 1 Drygore Rapier ; 1 Drygore Longsword : 1 Drygore Offhand Rapier : 1 Drygore Offhand Longsword

so slayer helmet, rapier, fury, berseker, drag defender, curses pray and extremes. What armour should i use? Stick with drag?

If you're going to focus on slaying - you might as well put that 50-60 mil to good use and grab bandos.

I don't know how your herblore is - but the rest of your items/skills are pretty set.

You have to dungeon a lot for the rapier - in the off times without teams or every hour and a half or so - I would highly, highly recommend going on herb runs.

By the time you get enough tokens for the rapier - you'll definitely have enough herbs to sell and buy more gear with.

For a ring - you should be using a beserker ring (for melee obviously) until you unlock Kuradel as a slayer master. After that, use the ferocious ring in there - otherwise use the beserker ring for all other tasks.

Bandos > Extremes. For real. Just Turm + Super.

Extremes are a much bigger improvement over supers than bandos is over verac/torso

^ True, true. I just prefered Bandos because of great bonuses without degrading armour. Plus with Slayer Helm, I found that I enjoyed getting tasks done quickly with Supers. I guess it comes down to preference and the types of tasks at hand.

How many accounts do you have?

I remember you had an account like three weeks ago with significantly less stats lol?

It comes down to facts, and the fact is that Extremes > Bandos

My lame drops:
6 Effigys
1 D Med - 1 D Dagger
1 Verac's Helmet - 1 Guthan's Platebody

The base slayer gear is as follows (alternatives in brackets):

  • [For all slayer monsters except those mentioned under other weapons] Chaotic rapier (whip)
  • Bandos body + legs (Verac's skirt with either fighter torso or proselyte top)
  • [Depending on prayer/accuracy needs] Fire cape/Soul Wars cape/Ardougne cloak 3
  • Barrows gloves (your best rfd gloves, at least rune)
  • Dragon boots (rune boots)
  • Amulet of fury (glory)
  • Dragon defender (rune defender)
  • Berserker ring (i)/ferocious ring if slaying in Kuradal's Dungeon (berserker ring, warrior ring)
  • [Most important] Full slayer helmet.
  • [For magic defence on waterfiends/aquanites] Karil's top and elite void skirt (black dragonhide body and chaps)
  • [Crush attacks to use on waterfiends] Chaotic maul (Saradomin sword, Zamorakian spear)
  • [stab attacks for higher-levelled dragons, when not using rapier] Korasi's sword (Zamorakian spear, leaf-bladed sword)
  • Task-specific items such as mirror shields, antifire shields/potions, elemental shields, rock hammers, crystal chimes
  • Cannon (optional, up to personal preference)

Slayer setups generally emphasise strength bonus, which increases the average damage of each succesful hit (slayer monsters usually having rather low defence, hitting is not a problem). Secondly, prayer bonus is important to keep the cost of prayer potions down (as you slay with piety on, to increase the speed of your kills. This is cost-effective and highly recommended). As a rule of thumb, +15 prayer bonus or above is good, but don't overdo it (anything above +25 is a waste). Defence and accuracy bonus are usually not fretted over (any defence bonus over 200 will do; if you get hit too often you should be using a protection prayer). Dagganoth, black demon, lesser demon, hellhound, bloodveld and spectre tasks should be cannoned, as it dramatically increases xp rates (although it costs a bit).

Some notes on gear: You'll want a fury and a berserker ring before you get bandos plate, and get that before tassets. You'll want accuracy bonus on higher-levelled dragons; if using stab attacks (which you should) you can use the Ardougne cloak 3 which provides you with +6 stab and +6 prayer bonus. Torso + sw cape and fire cape + proselyte are common cheap top/cape combinations; the former is better.

Some levels to get for slayer (in approximate order but I'm not sure on the summoning):

  • 68 summoning - bunyip
  • 81 dungeoneering (you need 2 million xp, which takes you to level 80, but allowing some tokens for the scroll of life) - rapier
  • 89 herblore (85 with a +4 stew boost) - extreme potions, superantifires
  • 95 prayer - turmoil and soul split
  • 88 summoning - unicorn
  • 96 herblore (91 with a +5 stew boost) - overload
  • 99 summoning - steel titan

I'm sure I missed something but this is most of it.

^Common post of mine, should explain stuff a bit. Since you are 99 prayer, curses are within easy reach and 120% worth it. Farming while dging for a rapier is the way to go IMO, you won't have a use for 99 atk (within dg) until 89 dungeoneering anyway, but the rapier seriously benefits slayer (I think 20% faster dragon tasks, 10% faster on other tasks). Farming makes a lot of money, once you can do torstol with juju you can expect 400k/5 minute run but you can do only one ever 70-80 minutes.
