Combat stats

Just hit a long term goal of 85 att, str and 95 def.

Johannas.png

Not sure what to do next...

I calculated by the time i had these levels i'd have 79 summoning which i wanted for titans, and also 85 slayer which i wanted for abbys. (But I calced wrong...)

95% of my combat exp is through slayer.

Currently 78/79 summoning with 0 charms. 1 more levels for titans which i'll probably use on task (when not using a BOB or bunyip), and then i'll probably save up till 88 for Unicorn.

Currently 82 slayer, with half a dozen tasks left for 83. Goal is 85 for abbys, and then i'll probably use them as my main moneymaker.

As far as prayer is concerned, i have no use for turmoil and my prayer level at the moment gets me along just fine. I don't tend to piety tasks unless i know i've got several hours in front of me for continuous slaying. I could probably afford 95 prayer, but it would cost me most, if not all my cash pile + rares. Is it really worth it? What for? Why?

With magic, next goal is probably 94 for ice barrage, although i'm in no rush. I don't PvP at all so vengeance is no use for me. The only incentive would be the additional magic defence when on task.

I don't really range any tasks and can't remember how I got it up to what it is now. Only incentive for me is to keep it in line with all my other combat stats.

Don't enjoy dungeoneering and have only got it up through tears of guthix and entering resource dungeons.

Any advice on att/str/def?

I'm thinking of training whip on controlled till 99 defence, which will hopefully get me a few att/str levels. (anyone know how many?)

Or alternatively i'm thinking of just evening out my melees again.

As far as gear is concerned i have just about everything i need minus dungeoneering items and imbued rings. I also have extremes and have done the majority of quests.

I'm urging towards this sequence:

Attack 85/90/99

Strength 85/90/99

Defence 95/99

HP 91/99

Prayer 82/85/99

Summoning 78/79/88/99

Ranging 82/90/99

Magic 88/94/99

Dung 50ish/80/99

Bear in mind i'm a casual player, and these are long term goals

Please only reply if you know what you're talking about (and what i'm talking about) - so many idiots in H&A these days  I would usually appreciate all responses but some replies just reduce me to tears nowadays.

Thanks <3:

Begin slaying to 99. That will knock your melees out of the way. Piety all tasks to speed things up. It helps, even if you're not going to be slaying for several hours straight.

Cannon all tasks that you can. That helps take care of your range and speeds up slayer even more. Some tasks break even with cannon, so cost really isn't an issue. I would advise saving for 95 prayer if you can, but if not, no big deal. I'm almost 99 slayer and only 75 pray. Sure turmoil would have sped things up a bit, but I'm poor and piety worked for me.

I say that because you said you really don't care for DG. I didn't either for the longest time, but when I finally decided to go for it, I got 58-85 DG in two weeks, which really wasn't that bad. Rapier will speed things up tremendously, and you'll be glad you did it.

But... if you refuse to get it, use Korasi for str training with ddef, and get all your melees level'd. Then you can move on to controlled whip if you'd like.

I see you have extremes, so use those on every task.

Use wolpertinger (92 summon) as soon as you manage to get it to begin maging select tasks if you've maxed melees and want to catch your mage up. Wolpertinger gives +7 magic boost so you'll be able to fire surge which is very nice with FSH and in Kura's dung or on Ice Strykes.

I mage abby demons and ice strykes only now, so that I can slowly catch my mage up, works pretty well.

Also: don't stop at 85 slayer for money-making through abbys. They're not that great of money anymore, and you'll make more in the long run if you continue to train slayer. Ice strykes make way more than abbys do, and it also gives you a headstart on any future slayer monsters with high reqs that Jagex may release.

Don't train with a whip on controlled. At your combat stats anything you should be training on shouldn't have accuracy as an issue. At my stats and lots of testing using super attack potions yielded virtually no additional exp/hr at armoured zombies (~1k-500 exp/hr difference which is easily accounted for due to variences in downtime between kills/luck). Strength is the only thing that will net you more exp/hr, so max that next, then train attack, then defense.

Turmoil is worth it. You should be using piety/turmoil on every task. Especially considering how low ranarr/prayer pots are due to bots. Also turmoil comes with soul split, enabling the use of a combat familiar/BoB familiar in places where you would normally need a healing one. Also the drain rate on turmoil is less than piety, and you'll get more ppoints per dose of prayer potion. That and if you ever plan on boss hunting its a must for most teams.

The only tasks you should be ranging are nechs with chins, and greaters in the forinthy dungeon to draw their aggro more quickly for your cannon to wreck them. You should also be using a cannon on every task, get your range exp that way.

For magic I would say burst/barrage rock lobsters. You'll get your mage exp and the charms you want for your summoning level. Also go to 95 for fire surge, ice barrage isn't really worth it outside of barrows and pvp and fire surge will wreck any tasks you wish to mage, especially ice strykes when you get to them.

If you're not going for a chaotic (rapier), the extra time spent getting the xp for 99 strength thanks to no whip (korasi) is much larger than the extra time spent on having ~95 str instead of 99.

At high levels the differences aren't THAT noticeable anymore, and the weaponry means much more.

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

The last few strength levels, without a rapier, then yeah you might want to go for a controlled whip. But honestly just get a rapier already :P.

The base slayer gear is as follows (alternatives in brackets):

  • [For all slayer monsters except those mentioned under other weapons] Chaotic rapier (whip)
  • Bandos body + legs (Verac's skirt with either fighter torso or proselyte top)
  • [Depending on prayer/accuracy needs] Fire cape/Soul Wars cape/Ardougne cloak 3
  • Barrows gloves (your best rfd gloves, at least rune)
  • Dragon boots (rune boots)
  • Amulet of fury (glory)
  • Dragon defender (rune defender)
  • Berserker ring (i)/ferocious ring if slaying in Kuradal's Dungeon (berserker ring, warrior ring)
  • [Most important] Full slayer helmet.
  • [For magic defence on waterfiends/aquanites] Karil's top and elite void skirt (black dragonhide body and chaps)
  • [Crush attacks to use on waterfiends] Chaotic maul (Saradomin sword, Zamorakian spear)
  • [stab attacks for higher-levelled dragons, when not using rapier] Korasi's sword (Zamorakian spear, leaf-bladed sword)
  • Task-specific items such as mirror shields, antifire shields/potions, elemental shields, rock hammers, crystal chimes
  • Cannon (optional, up to personal preference)

Slayer setups generally emphasise strength bonus, which increases the average damage of each succesful hit (slayer monsters usually having rather low defence, hitting is not a problem). Secondly, prayer bonus is important to keep the cost of prayer potions down (as you slay with piety on, to increase the speed of your kills. This is cost-effective and highly recommended). As a rule of thumb, +15 prayer bonus or above is good, but don't overdo it (anything above +25 is a waste). Defence and accuracy bonus are usually not fretted over (any defence bonus over 200 will do; if you get hit too often you should be using a protection prayer). Dagganoth, black demon, lesser demon, hellhound, bloodveld and spectre tasks should be cannoned, as it dramatically increases xp rates (although it costs a bit).

Some notes on gear: You'll want a fury and a berserker ring before you get bandos plate, and get that before tassets. You'll want accuracy bonus on higher-levelled dragons; if using stab attacks (which you should) you can use the Ardougne cloak 3 which provides you with +6 stab and +6 prayer bonus. Torso + sw cape and fire cape + proselyte are common cheap top/cape combinations; the former is better.

Some levels to get for slayer (in approximate order but I'm not sure on the summoning):

  • 68 summoning - bunyip
  • 81 dungeoneering (you need 2 million xp, which takes you to level 80, but allowing some tokens for the scroll of life) - rapier
  • 89 herblore (85 with a +4 stew boost) - extreme potions, superantifires
  • 95 prayer - turmoil and soul split
  • 88 summoning - unicorn
  • 96 herblore (91 with a +5 stew boost) - overload
  • 99 summoning - steel titan

I'm sure I missed something but this is most of it.

^Do that to 99 slayer, should be enough to get a unicorn if not a wolpertinger if not an iron titan. Should also get you 99 atk/def/str and high ranged, magic too from ice wyrms but I'd recommend getting 88 + ovl or 90 + xmage pot for them first.
