I had heard a little about the episode before I saw it, so I wasn't as shocked when everything happened.

[spoiler=spoiler]I can't see how the North will recover from this tragedy, or even who inherits Winterfeld as to two youngest sons are suppose to be dead to the outside world, Jon Snow is in the Night's Watch and can't inherit (I think?), which then leaves Sansa as the hier of Winterfeld.

Hence why The Lannisters married that ish fast, aka now it's the Lannister's, encase you missed that.

That's what I was trying to get at. I had a friend that felt very passionate it would be Jon.

I highly doubt that.

My guess (no need for spoilers because these are in the future/unknown) is that Arya leaves Westeros to go become bad ass and like night shadow/etc etc blah blah.

Bran heads to the north finds the three eyed raven and learns to use his Warg abilities even further, also the Wildlings catch him and he uses his Warg powers to take control of them ( or they think him a god and follow him willingly). Anyways in theory he takes over the north.

Then that leaves the south. Dany I think will ultimately conquer the Lannisters and take the throne and then rule at peace with Bran from the north and then Arya will come out of the wood work as a super bad ass and will represent the lands across the narrow sea.

Jon is Night's Watch 100%. The biggest question with him is will he become Lord Commander or not? After all, that's what Commander Mormont was grooming him for? As for who inherits the north, my money is on the Boltons. Roose wouldn't have sided with the Freys and Lannisters unless there was something VERY beneficial for him and his bastard son in the pipeworks. The Boltons had been staunch supporters of the Starks for a good few years, so... IF Tywin/Jamie/whoever had perhaps put the whisper in his ear of A. A very big reward and B. Wardenship of the north then I could see why Roose would choose to do what he did at the Red Wedding.

Sansa is an increasingly disappointing and useless character... IDK if Winterfell would have fallen to her or whatever, since the premise of GoT is the Wars of the Roses, and Primogeniture features so strongly in the ethos exhibited, meaning that Bran/Rickon would have been the next heirs.

Which once again leads me to posit that Roose and the rest of the Boltons become the Northern family. The Starks are now essentially exiles.

as far as anyone in the show knows, the stark line is done. any children sansa has by tyrion (ick) will be lannisters.

im guessing there wont be another northern family as big as the starks, the boltons might come out strongest but i dont think anyone will want to be buddy buddy w/roose after his role in the red wedding. the other houses will probably just hang out in the north from now on, becoming like the iron isles. a bit of a joke.

a reminder that the boltons and the starks were pretty big rivals in the past, so it's kinda funny that roose becomes one of robb's most trusted lieutenants.

Well, as far as I see it the only thing between Bolton and the Seat of Winterfell could be House Karstark. They've abandoned Robb for entirely different reasons, so the Red Wedding shouldn't sit well with them, as all northmen were slaughtered...and they are the strongest force in the north. But they have no established leader, so I guess they'll submit to Bolton as well....

It wouldn't surprise me if late in the series once the young Starks mature into adults, that they come back with vengeance against anyone that is still remaining that caused harm to their family and continue this endless cycle.

Well, it's not finished yet so we can't be sure what Martin has planned for it but I doubt it. Well, depends on the definition of adult too, but it would still mean several years until that happens. I don't think it will spread out that long....

I can see the series going either 6 or 7 seasons long so by the end of a 7th season I can see it happening like the end of the film Kingdom of Heaven where as soon as you feel the story is resolved, all of a sudden there is this new call to action from the Starks against whomever wins the throne. Similar to the Targaryen storyline.

Showrunners have said they're aiming for 7 seasons. Which means some condensing is going to happen considering they're taking two seasons for one of the 7 books. Works for me; GRRM needs someone to trim the fat sometimes.

[spoiler=Question about next episode and possible introduction of a character. aka book spoilers]With the Red Wedding done with and all of the Starks snuffing it, there is at least one bit of good news from that entire scenario.

The introduction of Lady Stoneheart.

3 days after Catelyn's body is thrown into the river the Brotherhood without Banners find her and Ser Beric gives his life so Thoros of Myr can resurrect her... Yet... Michelle Farley - who plays Catelyn - said her contract is up.

Do you guys think they'll bring Lady Stoneheart in? Or will they leave it and not cast anyone?

I moved, so I didn't have internet for a week. I just got it back tonight. I thought watching the latest Game of Thrones episode would be a good idea. Now I don't want the internet anymore and I want it all to go away :( :( :(

[spoiler=more book stuff]Or it will make things all the more surprising once Stoneheart does appear. Is that sort of meta-misdirection a possibility?

She could have filmed Lady Stoneheart's introduction for episode 10--part of this season's contract--and then she will just appear as a guest star here and there. Because really how often do we see her? Only time I can remember is when Brienne is hanged.

Unless the show gets cancelled before that (which is not absolutely unlikely) I'm pretty sure it's going to take more than 7 seasons. I don't think that less than one season per book is manageable, even with that they're going to have to condense a lot of stuff (which is good imo). And while aFfC and aDwD have been criticized for dragging out, there are still two unpublished books, and a lot still has to happen.

I mean

Winter AKA the white walkers is still coming, but hasn't arrived yet. Dany is STILL in essos. There's a load of stuff that still has to happen.

I think 8 seasons is a more realistic number, or possibly 9, depending on how much stuff happens in the last two books. But if they're going to manage it in 7 seasons, great - One of my biggest fears for the series is that it will simply drag out too long.

I think the show has way too much momentum right now to possibly be cancelled, but I think having 8 or 9 seasons would change that. The best shows are 5-7 seasons IMO. I think the longest HBO show has been The Sopranos at 6 and a half. People just won't wait nine years for ultimate resolution, plus we have child actors who would clearly no longer be children at that point.

They're already probably going to start in on Feast/Dragons late next season, and I expect they'll do them concurrently so that we don't have an entire season with no Tyrion and Jon and Dany. So I think it's entirely possible to condense both books into maybe a season and a half, so they're done by the end of season 5. Then we're back on track with season 6/book 6.

I agree that too many seasons will make the show lose momentum, but you can't arbitrarily cut it down to seven seasons either (Or you can, but it would hurt the show just as much). I think that's just an issue inherited from the books that the show will have to live with. If I'm wrong, great, but I can't see the whole storyline being finished in seven seasons. As for the child actors...they'll be too old anyway, be it seven seasons or eight...that's just something where you'll have to ask the audience for suspension of disbelief in order to keep the great cast.

I don't think they can fit both books in one and a half seasons. Sure, both have excess fat and it should definitely be trimmed, but down to less than a season per book? I agree that they should (and will) do them concurrently, but I think it's still going to take around two seasons. Plus I expect Book 6 and 7 to come down with a lot of story yet to happen as well.

It wasn't any better reading the book...I'd take a bet on at least 25% of readers literally throwing their books across the room.
