Earth sat on the edge of his seat, wringing his water bottle and imagining the death of a goblin that his character on the tabletop was grappling. Grim and Wyvren looked on the scene impassively, waiting for their next chance to spring a dramatic monologue. As her turn approached, Retech sat with trouser wetting excitement, waiting for the exact moment to unleash an avalanche of rules from the mountain of DnD books that she carried around. Even though he knew what was going on, Spork continued to shout at inoppertune moments, "WHAT THE F IS GOING ON HERE." Nex was ready to smack Earth over the head, but he noticed something from the corner of his eye...

It was Archi, writing and writing...and writing. Nex wondered if Archi ever went to sleep. With a knowing smile, Archi looked up and looks at Nex, "Not really." There was a knock at the door, and Retech, being the closest to the entrance, went over and opened it. She closed it as if she was under the effects of haste.

"Guys, we have a problem. There is a shambling hoard of zombies coming right towards us. Even with twice our current level of optimization, we will be unable to hold them off for very long."

A rusted and splintered spear passes through the door with a thundering crack and impales her in the stomach.

"Well, this should save some supplies," she says, before falling to the floor.

Now for rules and guidelines:

1. This is a Pathfinder game, starting from level one. The characters that you make will hopefully be reflected (not necessary, as I will never be able to know) on your own self in real life. Think of your strengths and weaknesses and try to apply them here.

2. Use the guideline that 10 on the attribute scale is roughly the human average. We will be using a ten point buy system, to keep it so that we are not superheroes, yet strong enough not to be utterly destroyed.

3. Each character will start with 4,000 gp worth of items, your choice, to help balance out the lack of point buy. Just keep in mind that the setting is dystopian an many of your supplies will not replenish for a while, so bring what you need. Travel light! There is a lot of movement in this game, and escaping from zombies in a cart is not so easy. Bags of holding are recommended.

4. There are a LOT OF ZOMBIES. Zombies are immune to sneak attack, so keep that in mind.

5. As this is a homebrew setting, the existing gods for other settings do not exist. Clerics receive their powers from ideals only, not gods. If there is something that has a pre-requisite of a god, but that is unavailable, we can work to modify it so it can be used.\

6. Non-uberpowerful classes receive 15 point buy at the beginning.

Also, trying to work out a time for this.

Alrighty, I'd love to try this out. But unfortunatly I have no experiance with pathfinder games so if someone can throw the basics at me I'm good.

It's D&D. Rules and such Here, here's a character sheet generator if you don't want to do it by hand, and a bit more info here.

Guessing the first link can explain it better than I could, but it's still quite a bit for someone new to the game, which is probably unavoidable. Just hope that the others will be willing to guide you along the way

Lots of credit goes to Archi, who will also be playing the game. (But since he's hosting the server and throwing together some maps, he'll be roleplaying that he doesn't know what's going on)

Archi suggested that sessions be conducted on Wednesdays and Saturday mornings. It is possible we could also go onto Saturday afternoon if Rogue Trader is not running.

Don't worry, we can walk you through it. I will start the campaign easy-ish to help everyone learn, but since it is dystopian, death might become more common later on.

Also, since I'm pretty sure that no one here is actually evil in real life, if there is something that requires evil to work (or consorting with demons or whatever), just talk to me about it, so we can work that out. Some tweaks might be in order.

All the stuff on SRD (with a few exceptions) is allowed. If you really can't find something from Pathfinder, then just PM me about the 3.5 material and I'll just check to see if it works.

Undead are not immune to Sneak Attacks, or Critical Hits. That was changed in Pathfinder. They only are if stated in their entry.

EDIT: And you aren't going with zombie DR/slashing right? Doesn't really make much sense, and being forced to use slashing weapons makes things difficult for a Monk of the Empty Hand. :(

Some of them will have DR/Slashing or DR/Bludgeoning. I'll look into the undead thing.

The campaign is going to have lots of FUN kinds of undead, so DR/slashing will be the least of your concerns. Generally, I will put a mixed bag of things into each encounter, so no one is useless at one point or another. In addition to the few types on the SRD, I will be looking into Libris Mortis (splatbook from 3.5) and converting some of the things over to Pathfinder. PFSRD is lacking on cool, undead stuff. <_<

I am someone that believes in going with the rules, but just because it's an undead campaign doesn't mean that all the enemies are going to be generic. That would be dull. :P

Damnit, I was thinking it was going to be pseudo-modern zombie apocalypse. Oh well.

I've realized that Monks suck anyways, time for build 2.

Retech, if you are interested in them I believe I have some 3rd party dming supplies (Green Ronin put out an Advanced GM's guide) as well as some tokens/map generators/name generators/ interesting books that deal with players/ oxford guides to writing (those I haven't had the time to read through yet).

EDIT: Mather it's a RP forum period. There's no distinction between soft and hard RP iirc, though if there ever is one made and this turns out to be a soft rp forum I guess we'll have to take the threads to the OT.

I don't think this is the place to get into a discussion about the suckage of monks (or the lack thereof).

Although I can give you some links if you'd like.

Can I use a beartrap in melee combat? What about a portable ram? Folding chair? Ladder? Barstool?

To be honest, beartrap-fu sounds awesome, as does an order of Improvised Weapon Leeroy-Jenkins-esque Paladins whose weapons of choice are handheld battering rams.

Yeah, after thinking about this, I am not really interested in this game, as even though single type opponent games can make interesting stories, they tend to force optimization as you know exactly what types of things work and dont work against creatures and the GM expects you to play based on these facts specifically.
