Brand new computer..

I finally got a new computer it has 16gb ram and the new i7 sandybridge with an ASUS board. its an antec df-85 case or something similar. it was professionally put together This cost me a lot of money and i've begun to have problems with usb ports.. Only one front port worked from the start, it recognized my card reader but then stopped recognizing it. after i tested my card reader with my moms computer i thought perhaps the three year old reader was broken. then i began using a brand new 2gb memory stick for readboost and it worked fine for more than a day (Again in this one port). then due to a project from school i bought a new card reader, removed the stick, and the new card reader worked. now the brand new usb stick won't work at all in any port front or back. also upon startup it says no harddrive detected. help please

Yeah the professional build is clearly more amateur to the extreme.

Open her up and just push all the plugs to make sure they r connected well would be obvious first step, sounds like some wires might've got loose in transit or were jsut never plugged on right.

thank you for the fast response usually they are hard to come by.. I'm not going to open it up because my parents thinking i was going to blow up the house was the reason i wasn't allowed to build it myself in the first place. I don't understand why the back ports on the mobo wouldn't work. I'll have to call them as to parents orders

Call your builder (but don't pay, dammit!) or open it up yourself. If he did it well it shouldn't be TOO hectic, but make sure everything is plugged in securely. My front ports didn't work first try, and I had to find them and plug them in.

I don't know about the back ports though, because they're connected to the mobo. If the mobo wasn't working properly, I'd imagine you'd have some other major errors.

Im completely bewildered why you would need to use readyboost on a system that has 16gb of ram... Anyways...

If you can check the connections coming from the case front usb ports to the motherboard, out and in the same way as you saw (or wait for the professional).

As for the flash drive did you eliminate the problem down to the stick or the usb ports? If the usb ports work then does the flash drive light up (if it has lights), can you see it as a drive on your computer, can you hear a ping sound when you plug it in. If theres nothing wrong with the usb stick and the usb ports are working, head into Disk Management (Control Panel) and see if you can find your device there. Once there try changing the letter of the drive or format it.

To get to disk management Click the "Start" orb, right-click "Computer" and select "Manage" to launch "Computer Management."

If the back ports don't work, check you've installed all of the motherboard drivers. If you have, try reinstalling them (it's a pain, I know). If that doesn't work, there's a problem with the motherboard.

Regarding the front ports, the only real way is to check inside the computer (what harm are you going to do by just opening it? Just make sure you're grounded) and check that everything is plugged in fine. The front panel connectors are normally at the bottom of the board.

I think that's the issue you were trying to describe, anyway.

For the 'no harddrive detected', does the computer actually boot up? Or do you have dual HDD's? It's probably just a SATA cable or power connection that has become loose. Open 'er up and check the connections.

RIP TET
