RuneScape Membership Cards - Price Increased

XxTearGodxX

Recommended Posts

Just got back from food shopping at Shop Rite, passed the Magazine section and they had a section for Gift Cards & such. Turns out RuneScape Membership Cards have gone up in price again, no idea why. Now some may say "Well they increased the amount of days you get so it's fair". However with the older cards Jagex offered an extra 15 days when using the 90 Day Cards and they now only give an extra 10 days.

Old Prices

$7.95 - 30 Days.

$22.50 - 90 Days.

New Prices

$10.00 - 35 Days.

$25.00 - 100 Days.

Here are photos.

It's not like they have competitors to check the price levels, they're probably just toeing the line to see what the most profitable mix of sales numbers and profit per sale is.

This certainly explains why my local Wal-Mart took all their prepaid RS cards off the rack earlier this week.

Old price:

30 days = 26.5 cents/day

90 days = 25 cents/day

New price:

35 days: 28.5 cents/day

100 days = 25 cents a day

So if you want to get the same amount of money's worth, go for the 100 day package. It's the only of the two that suitably raised its days to match the price. Jagex should have raised it to 37-38 days to match the price increase.

You should be happy really.

At gamestop in Norway, 30 days costs 12 dollars and always has ever since they were stocked. :(

Credit card is ftw though.

100 days at $25 is the exact same cost per day than 90 days at $22.50. And the 35 day one works out at $.02 a day more so its hardly a big deal.

It's an understandable increase when you consider how the price of gas is affecting everything. I can't imagine how much it's costing them to drive back and forth to work in their solid gold limos.

Its not likely they will be making a lost with RS even if their power bill goes up, RS is simply a money cow. Besides, somebody we know have told us that they are not interested in profits.

[hide="Mod MMG]People like to focus on the revenues but the most important thing is that profits are the side effect of a great game, and that's going to be true of anything we do. It's never the reason for doing it.[/hide]

I wonder what is pulling their leg lately.

I hope it doesn't come as a surprise that Jagex wants to make more money.

Or if they need that money for some reason?

I really hope they make runescape into a separate company, rather than a product of Jagex.Ltd. So we can still play the game even if Jagex screwed up on either stellar dawn or 8 realms and go bankrupted.

I'll keep my eye out but someone else is more likely to see them before I do. My friend got me a 90 day card not long ago for £12.99. If the prices have gone up I'm guessing it'd be to £15

Prices in the UK are still £4.99 and £12.99. Went to Sainsburys yesterday.

There's going to be a lot of factors in this. Production, shipping, distribution or retail costs might have gone up, or the US dollar might have dropped against the pound.

In any case, it's a very small change for one of the two available cards in one country, and it's not even the most popular or cheapest method of gaining membership. In other words, it's not a big deal. This is still an absurdly good value MMO.
