The Observer
FORT MYERS, Fla. - An online video shows a prank some would say went too far. Three young girls from Dunbar Middle school videotaped themselves tackling an 11 year old boy and taking off his clothes. The group can be heard laughing at times and mocking the boy as he struggled to break free. "He stopped to chat with his friend and they thought it would be funny," said the boy's mother. The child who we are not identifying is a 5Th grader at Ray Pottorf Elementary. His mom says she only found out about the video when her older son, who goes to school with the girls, said his friends had seen the video online. "You take his clothes off in broad daylight, in the middle of a busy neighborhood and then you post it on YouTube to tell all your friends look at what I did. Crime or not, it shouldn't happen," she added. Fort Myers Police says the girl would have faced misdemeanor battery charges, but that the boy's mother has refused to press charges. She wants the girls' parents to hand out a punishment instead. The video has since been removed by YouTube. I find it outrageous that something like this hasn't received any further pursuit by police.

Kaida23
The only reason these girls aren't facing charges is because the boy's mother isn't pressing them? There seems to be a major failure on the part of all the parents of the children involved in this. At least the girls could potentially face charges. In Canada you can't be charged with a crime if you're under the age of 12. Check out my blog to read the Adventures of a Big Damn (F2P) Hero. Nomrombom
The police should absolutely be prosecuting the girls. It can't just be brushed off and handed to the parents. PM me for fitocracy invite

jasignhagj
Title is misleading here, as it suggests the police refused to press charges when it was the mother. And I agree with her if the other parents are willing to cooperate and punish their girls. Children that young shouldn't have to go through the legal system unless it's absolutely necessary. To me this isn't about the crime but more of what would occur if the genders were reversed, that's what really bugs me. Although they should go through the legal system in this case, grounding isn't really gonna get the message across. I once met a man named Jesus at a Home Depot. Is this the Messiah returned at last? jasignhagj
This reminds me of a story on OT a while ago about a guy in who fell and touched a girl's breasts in grade 2, and the school wanted charges pressed even though the parents didn't care and the girl didn't even get what was wrong. Then someone brought up the point that if a girl fell and touched a guy's parts, it probably would be no big deal. I still think it's wrong for them to go through the legal system at that age, when they are likely too young to comprehend that what they did was illegal. Nifflin
Exactly, it would be a massive deal if boys stripped a girl down and posted videos. PM me in game anytime It's a lot easier then that for an idiot to sound smart on the internet. That's exactly what you're doing right now... just saying. Kimberly
...lol Yes, I'm sure being grounded and confined to their rooms with their cell phones and computer is a fitting punishment for molesting a 11 year old boy. If it was the shoe on the other foot, people would be hell-bent on charging him as an adult. It's absurd.

Ginger_Warrior
The idea any 11 year old is capable of taking accountibility in a court of law while knowing what rape means is ridiculous, I'm sorry. If the argument is based on a 10 year old being tried for a similar crime, then that charge too was ridiculous. This is an assault and it's incredibly vicious bullying, but not an attempted rape. | Favourite Game Music | Last.fm | HYT Friend Chat Rules |

And I know that after all the crap I pulled at school, I knew what the consequences were, so that bs of being too young to know the consequences doesn't fly with me. Riku3220
Not only did they assault the kid, they filmed him and put it on Youtube. Doesn't that count as production and distribution of child pornography? Surely the girls have to be in trouble with the law whether or not the mother wants punishment from their parents. i_love_burritos
This reminds me of a CSI episode, except they were grown adults. And it was a rape charge. They didn't suspect the women because they were women doing the raping. It was a CSI epsiode, though so yeah
