Wii U

I find this 'console' very interesting but wierd at the same time. It was announced at E3 and had a video to show what it's all about, but this video got me particularly interested in it. I have never seen a console this original before.

What are your thoughts on the Wii U?

It's almost a small Wii for home + other things. I like it, will probably buy it.

Jesus that leaked footage in that video was amazing! Going to be a good console!

I thought the name is a bit weird. A little originality wouldn't hurt. Anyways, I'm definitely getting one.

Glad I sold my Wii before it was announced!

The biggest changes are the controllers. You can now actually play the games on the controller itself

even if your TV is turned off or switched to another server. Very, VERY good on my part since me

and my mom are always competing for the T.V. It's going to support internet more too, unlike the wii's

garbage internet channel hosted by Opera :XD: The console will practically serve as an interactive PC

with everything capable like a keyboard and a mouse.

It's also backwards compatible with the original Wii (goodbye Wii prices) and Gamecube. You're looking at 3 console

games in 1 which might be a very good deal only if the prices aren't going to be high like ps3 or XB360.

There are already games announced for Wii U like the next platformer for Super Mario and Zelda. :shades:

To conclude, I can't wait.

I think the Wii U is going to fail miserably.

why? I personally think it's going to be one of the best consoles ever. And then Sony/Microsoft will copy it.

It looks pretty cool, though I buy all Nintendo systems. However, I'm interested in the power and online structure right now. With it coming out a year to two years before PS4/X3, it'll be interesting how Nintendo captures the so-called "core" market when they will no doubt be behind in power. As of now, I've heard everywhere from having a GPU comparable to the Raedon 4550 to 5830 with 1-2 GB RAM. Hopefully they can secure some big named 3rd parties such as Rockstar and Bethesda among many others.

People said the same about the Wii. Loving how everyone is critisizing the WiiU like they did the Wii, but Nintendo going to make bucketloads of cash off of this. I'll consider buying one for super smash bros, and even more so since it will have 3rd part support, like EA and Ubisoft major games.

My page 1 thoughts are of a console that was incredibly well received by third-party developers and gaming website editors on the E3 floor, but was poorly communicated to the world outside of Los Angeles, hence the level of confusion amongst some posters here.

Nevertheless I'll be enjoying the opportunity to buy Assassin's Creed and Mass Effect 3 in the not-too-distant future.

The Wii was a succes solely because everyone's mom bought it. It wasn't exactly the holy grail of hardcore gaming.

I think it is about time that Wii step it up a notch and play the level, in terms of graphics, ps3 and xbox has been at for some time now.

Though I am intrigued with the tablet-esque controller, I am not particularly liking it either. It just looks like a separate console altogether. But I would definitely give it what it is due and would have to wait before I give my word of it.

Nintendo may be my console of choice next gen, if they improve vastly improve their online gaming. I've heard they're getting rid of friend codes, which is a great start. Next thing I want is full voice chat support with everyone.

I think it'll probably make a [cabbage]-ton of money. Look at how much more money the Wii made than the 360 and PS3. I know that sales aren't an indicator of a good console, but I'm sure the Wii U will do fine in terms of money.

I'm not going to buy one though.

I'm pretty sure they already have voice chat with everyone, just based off that Ghost Recon Online video. The controller has a built in mic, so everyone will be able to chat.

What is it? Just a more powerful Wii it seems from the article I read...

Actually, the Wii U is the de facto successor to Wii. There's going to be games specifically for Wii U and the controllers

are going to be different too. I'm not sure if they're going to keep motion control since people have been ranting about

it from the start, but stuff like miis and online shopping will still exist.

My wishlist for Wii U is more online support like games with voice chatting and it's own mailing system where you can

message others with the Wiii U console and new avatars that'll replace the god-awful Miis.

Yep. It's a funny movie, the whole thing is a piss take though. The have taken an old Asian film and re-dubbed it and what not. Hence the funny sounds.

Mass Effect 3 is coming to the WIi U? It will be interesting playing it seeing as it didn't have the two previous games so you can't import characters, which affects the game.

I kind of posted my thoughts in the E3 thread about what I think. Pretty much I feel like it is going to come down to the exclusive titles. A lot of older gamers just aren't into more Mario/Zelda games. (Despite how good they may be they are still very similar to what I was playing years and years ago).

A few strong exclusive titles for the system along the lines of a "gears of war" or "uncharted" would help a ton.

That and seeing how developers take advantage of the controller. I will say that I am fully behind the controller, I think its a good idea. On GiantBomb they interviewed Ken Levine (lead at Irational games [bioshock]) and he said that he liked that it did not sacrifice the core controls.

Oh and I want to say that arguing about tech specs at this point is kind of, well, pointless. Nintendo really hasn't gone and said how powerful the system will be. Obviously it will be less powerful than whatever the 360/PS3 successor is (simply due to when it is coming out) but we need to consider its power compared to the 360/PS3. If it is the same/similiar than the Wii U would run into one of the problems the Wii did. If it is more powerful it might make it fine. What I'm thinking of right now is the Wii U timing is almost like the Dreamcast's timing back in the day. When it first came out it dominated what was currently on the market but than the PS2 came and had stronger specs.

e: at this point though I really think that the difference in graphical power isn't as big as it used to be. Like the most visually intense games we have is BF3 which looks significantly better on the PC than console. Still thought its not the HUGE leap that one would think (like Wii vs 360/PS3)

Scratch the surface of this third-party talk and you quickly discover Nintendo are still relying on their own IP for exclusives, so agreed with that comment.

I did have that thought Ouchy, but then it also dawned on me that there'll be people buying ME3 on the 360 who didn't play ME1/2 so essentially they'd be in the same boat as Wii U owners. Also a rerelease of ME1/2 on the Wii U hasn't exactly been ruled out, though it hasn't been rumoured about either.
