If you had an AI assistant, what would you delegate it?

An interesting question. If you had an artificial intelligence program, what would you make it to?

I'm going to limit the resources here - nothing quite complex. You've got a computer with internet access running this thing. Let me clarify...there are NO ARM/LIMB PERIPHERALS connected here. You can't command it to strangle everyone and take over the world, let alone make a sandwich, regardless of the small number of toppings. This thing can talk and access the internet. That should be enough.

Imagine you have an artificial intelligent assistant (with proficient text to speech, speech to text engines) that you can delegate tasks to make your life more productive/enjoyable. For example:

You're playing Call of Duty slumped in your underwear on the couch on the stairclimber with a graduate level physics book in your hand attempting to solve world poverty. However, your friend calls you up about your movie date later, and needs to know the showtimes. Options:

a.) Sacrifice losing the multiplayer match your innovative train of thought, go to your computer, load up Google, and get the showtimes. Oh no, you've lost it - you'll never get to the next prestige another day the world will go hungry.

b.) Casually inquire (out loud) "[AI name], can you please retrieve the showtimes for Iron Man 2 this evening?". You hear a voice speak "Certainly, sir (madam)". "Showtimes this evening for [awkward voice] Iran Man 2 are at 6:35, 7:50, 8:22, and 10:00." "Thanks! Also, look up XxXxXx1337xxXXxxX's play history record this note..."

So, what would you do?

Upload a copy to a portable device with a mic and internet access, that's step one. Then have a setup where it can communicate with the one on my computer via internet, so they're one AI with one history. Then just use it to surf teh internetz with voice commands, really.

Unless I'm misunderstanding this thread.

You're understanding the thread perfectly, but why just limit its use to clicking back/forward (if I understand correctly)?

Putting it to work processing and researching information would probably the best use. I think it would be kinda fun to be able to pull up any statistic in an instant.

I would have it play runescape.

well for a start, I would make it type for me. it would be faster and have less spelling/gamer mistakes...

I might make a tif account just for it to have conversations, effectively, with my self. and to screw with people in forum games XD

I cant think of anything else I would make it do. so... yea.

I wonder what Jagex would do (given they are still around and have runescape going still)

If a sentient AI opened up its own runescape account. Would it be considered macroing for it to play?

I would tell my AI to fill out surveys for money, assuming it was any good it could potentially fill out surveys multiple times into different bank accounts producing massive cash for me every day.

I would also have it set up multiple steam accounts and buy team fortress 2 so that I could get hold of more hats.

I would use it to aid me in CAD modelling, if it could interpret well I could make whatever I wanted very easily.

I will make it get me money. Somehow.

Money to buy me gas and food, and some luxuries here and there, and that's all I need.

Depends. If it has the power of a human mind but can compute with it, have it bruteforce encryption hashes and passwords for money. If not, just hook it up to a bluetooth headset and ask it to look up stuff for me and record memos.

With all of the movies I've seen I can come to the general conclusion that sentient AI is not a good idea. I will delete it and live a normal life.

I am with you on this one. I in no way would like an AI robot to do anything for me. It must be TERMINATED.

Doesn't sound very useful, seems like just an advance voice recognition software which runs google searches.

If that's what you define it - the topic is you pick what it does, I'm not sure you understand

My understanding was through your example, which is where I based it's limitations from. So through your example and it's inability to make decisions, it's fairly useless.

I'd set it up in the middle of the ocean (on a oil platform sort of thing) in a high speed computer so that I could maximize its efficiency between multiple international stock markets, then instruct it to identify, probe, and exploit any possible market openings, while updating me at regular intervals (every few hours or so) as to profits/losses, projected earnings, etc. This is, of course, assuming it can make choices.

Effectively, become an IRL uber-mercher with cash instead of geepees. :shades:

Oh, and do the same with RS
