Addicted To Runescape

Bills, roommates, a job, and sex taught me not to be addicted to the game.

The challenge of a mistake is not to avoid it. The challenge of a mistake is dealing with the outcome.

Fill your addiction with something else. Try something else like alcohol, a spouse, or another game. You will eventually find yourself with many things to fill your time.

Please lock this thread. It's just an excuse for kids to go:

No I r not addicted, I has sex, girlfriend, learning 100 languages, i drink alchomohols, currently learning to become astronaut so dats pretty kewl rs is just game I r too smart to care about it.

There are some good discussions from people relating to the topic starter and I think that's the kind of feedback he wants. Please keep the ego off the thread, it doesn't contribute in the least, and it makes some of you look like tools who value junior high school way too much.

As for me, I'm not addicted, but I definetly agree with it filling a void - especially after exams and in winter. It's basically all I do during this time period <3: As long as I'm having fun I think it's ok, but I do get in trouble from wifey about the dishes sometimes haha. <3:

Sounds like you have a problem with people being successful.

Having a girlfriend, sex, alcohol, etc is not strange. Languages are needed for travel. Astronaut.. didn't see anybody that said that. But yes, some people do have great careers. Stop hatin'

I want to play RS more, but everything in this game is so damn boring these days I find it difficult to stay more than 5 minutes without going "[bleep] it." and go do something else.

Holy [bleep] this, this is the grindiest mmo I've ever played and that's saying something.

Why bother playing if its so 'grindy' and boring? Too much emphasis on one thing/skill? Not thought about....oh dear.......I'll have to swear here..................

I've never been addicted to RS. I was 'addicted' to Pokémon as a small child over a decade ago, but since then my I've never been addicted to anything else... except skunk.

When I was in high school I can say for sure that I was addicted. I used to play around 5-6 hours on average daily. But that was a different time, in high school I had all the time in the world to spend on runescape and I don't at all regret spending that much time on this game. I thoroughly enjoyed the game during those days and I wish I could play more currently but university (along with a tough major) really cuts down the amount of time I have to play this game. I would love to play like I used to in high school but I don't think I will ever have that kind of free time again.

I do still log in now and again but it is only to do the activities that I truly enjoy. I have no intention of training my skills.

So in short, I was addicted, would still have been addicted if he wasn't for real life priorities.

I study Italian, Japanese, train at my MMA gym several few days a week, try to work out as much as possible and get better at guitar. Since RS doesnt help with any of these goals, I try to play it as little as possible, and as efficiently as possible when I do play. Even if an evening of playing RS is more enjoyable than an evening of memorizing kanji... long-term the latter will bring me more happiness you could say. Kinda like grinding real life.

Probably the gayest thing I have ever read.

Thanks for your valuable contribution to this thread.

I'm not addicted, but I've conditioned myself to be lazy and reward that laziness with games (like rs, or others). It affected my life for a while, actually. I'd like to say it no longer does, but I would be lying if I tried saying that videogames still weren't my biggest vice.

I don't blame RS and other games for what mistakes I made. I made them willingly because I lacked the discipline to resist temptation.

Used to play a lot but after four years of not really playing, I've never had the issue again.

Runescape has majorly affected my life. If I could quit it, I would.

This.

Quit for 7 months last year and was on the verge of suicide.

Then i started playing again and i'm happy as could be

I used to play more than I should have when I was younger. Now I've pretty much quit but return every now and then when I'm bored in order to try out the new content. I play another game for hours a day, but that's only because it gives me something to do. When I have something more important to do (such as real life [cabbage]), I put the game to the side so I can handle my business. I'm not letting video games [bleep] up my college education or social life.

If you need to quit, the best thing you can do for yourself is to get your account locked somehow, get banned (most effective thing to do), or just destroy your possessions (even your house) in the game. This doesn't always work for people, but from my own experience, it's a pretty good way to lose interest in the game long enough so that you can get your priorities straight.

I would have to say I am most likely addicted but I always tend to put my real life matters first like friends and school and for a while I wasn't even able to play for a couple months straight because so much other stuff had to get done, but I got back to it as soon as I could

The charm this game had just wore slowly off. In the end, I found nothing to be satisfying or fun anymore.

I am pretty sure I was never "addicted", as I had many long breaks from this game. Only thing that brought me always back were the updates.

But now I have stopped playing and I have no intentions of coming back.

If you're addicted to rs, i'm pretty sure you'll grow out of it... I used to spend way too much time on videogames, but you just change as you get older and other things become more important/fun.

It's cool to play a lot when your a kid, being a kids about doing what makes you happy and enjoying life without commitments. If that's videogames then fine eh?

Now I can hardly log in without feeling like im wasting my time, the closest I get when i'm really bored are these forums - and they just remind me why i dont play anymore :P

Its such a powerful addiction for me that although I haven't played in months its still part of my thought process. Almost any game I play now (though sparingly) I'll compare to runescape and can never fully enjoy for what its worth. You might not think that playing 20, 30, 40, 50 hours a week is detrimental to your social life and well being, but as you watch weeks, months, years, even the entire extent of middle school or highschool pass, you'll realize what runescape has done. I could have been a great athlete in highschool like my father was, but I came into highschool frail and without passion and its only now in my senior year that I've worked my [wagon] off to be the top runner and captain of my team. I could have carried over my 97.- gpa from middle school to highschool but instead I played runescape (facebook deserves some blame for short periods of time) and have only recently brought up my high 87 average to a 90. During those lonely friday and saturday nights of my late middle school and early highschool career I always tried to justify my playing time with stupid generalities but it took me a very long time to realize what I was doing wrong (I did have some friends). Its only now in my senior year that I have a girlfriend and a great group of friends.. I spent two years of highschool rarely even hugging a girl. Some of you might think you're too socially awkward or nerdy to get girls, If your logging more time on runescape than you are in the gym, excercising, studying, working, playing an instrument, or just hanging out with friends, Runescape is the problem. I never realized what I was capable of in the real world until I stopped playing for good (which was at the beginning of last school year with at most 2 hours a month since then). I know you're just people on the internet, but the only time I've cried since adolescence is when i looked at myself in the gloss of my black computer screen and recognized how much of my youth I wasted on a video game. My skills aren't even that good after several years of playing and I believe i have around 150 days logged total. It crushed my creativity, socially handicapped me at my worst times, and wasted countless (24 *150) hours of my life. If i could go back and tell a 7th/8th grade version of me not to play, I think I would conclude to my young self that playing was one of the biggest regrets I have in my early life. I can't blame anybody but myself. It's a fun game, PvP and the few great people I met along the way always kept me coming back. For those of you who are maybe just starting to play a lot this summer or have logged much more time than me over the years, I can't stress enough playing reasonably and when you feel it taking over your life to simply stop playing.

I used to be addicted to this game, i mean ive been playing since 02. but for the past i'd say 2 - 3 years i havnt really played much. i just walk around. look at the prices of items i wish i had. do some more walking.

No matter how much i tried to do stuff i just dont have to patience to sit down for hours on end to click on stuff. i barely managed an hour.

Then when freetrade and pking came back, i played a lot more (only to stake though) and ive made quite alot of money and then been cleaned about 8 times. idk

runescape lost its appeal to me many years ago but i still havnt left it completely

if you have to focus on trying to have fun in a game, you know you're playing the wrong game.

agree with the previous 2 guys btw. i used to be addicted, but then i dropped all my money, and whenever i want to start playing again, i think of all the hours that ill have to grind just to get it back.

I think this is an excellent example of a thread where a highly minimal number of the posts get read.

I used to play a lot but as is the pattern, eventually I decided I'd rather have fun instead of grinding so I stopped. It is possible to have fun doing group stuff but most of my friends have gone the same direction so it's off to other games.
