Jagex has kindly offered us an interview with their developers about the upcoming Clan Citadels! We want to make sure that your voices get heard so please post any questions you have about the update here! We cannot guarantee that every single question will be answered but Jagex will do their best to pick out some questions to answer :)

Weve seen some huge updates this year but, on July 26 2011, we eclipse them all as we reach for the skies and unleash our biggest update of the year so far: Clan Citadels!

 

Floating high above the land of Gielinor, your clan citadel will be your clans stronghold; your training ground; your home.

 

Working together, youll gather the resources and materials needed to build and maintain your realm, with tiered progression. Enjoy the fruits of your labour as you proudly watch your Citadel grow to become ever grander.

 

A huge range of customisation options will make your clans citadel truly unique; allowing you to reflect the values you hold dear and demonstrate to the world exactly what you and your clan stand for.

 

Your mighty fortress will not only be your home, but also a proving ground within which you and your clan-mates can gather resources and learn to work and fight as one, whether its for future battles or just to prove that youre the greatest clan in the game!

 

Clan citadels will be a members only update, available to clans with five or more subscribing players, from July 26. Until then, check out this mouth-watering concept art to see just what is on, or above, the horizon.

Clan Citadels (Members Clan Areas):

 

Clan members may have hiscore tables, capes, insignia and clan chat channels, but they havent had a place to call their own. That is about to change, as clan citadels, floating castles in the sky, can be seen on the horizon!

 

Gather five clanmates who have membership and you will be able to complete the portal ritual, gaining entry to your clans very own citadel. Choose from four different layouts before deciding whether you want your citadel to be in glorious sunshine or perpetual night. Banners and flags fly the colours of your clan, and there are dozens of hotspots for you and your clan to make your own.

 

Of these hotspots, a maximum of seven are skill-related, allowing you and your clan to train skills together. Although the XP you receive is slightly lower than you would receive on the surface of RuneScape, skilling here will contribute to the maintenance of the citadel, allowing you to upgrade it from tier 1 to tier 7. As your citadel gets upgraded, youll gain access to better customisation options and even more hotspots. Contribute enough to the weekly upkeep of the citadel and youll find you have access to a clan ring, which gives you a temporary 1.5x multiplier in certain skill tasks about RuneScape.

 

Your clan can gather in many areas of your clan citadel in meeting rooms, a senate, a party room but the centrepiece is the clan battlefield. This offers you and your clan a large area to battle together or face-off against other clans, and a full-blown Battlefield Editor to create your own combat situations or minigames. Weve had endless amounts of fun concocting clan wars between departments, elaborate mazes, obstacle courses, and twists on the traditional capture the flag format, but we expect you to blow our ideas clear out of the sky. Get to grips with the locations, obstacles, enemies, enemy behaviours, win conditions and other tools, and then share your creation with your clan mates or other clans. The limits of what you create will only really be defined by your imagination.

 

Our graphics department have been busy adding over 4,000 new models and over 20,000 new animation frames to the game for Clan Citadels, making an environment that we are particularly proud of. More information about Clan Citadels will be revealed over the course of the month, with a clan blog on the 7th which will answer many of the questions you may have.

 

So, start growing your clans in anticipation of the Clan Citadels release!

What skilling activities will be available in the clan citadel?

 

Will we be able to start dungeoneering parties from our clan citadel?

 

Can guests enter the clan citadel?

Will we get to decide where we can put our clan citadel? I know it will probably be in the sky, but can we position it where we would like?

 

Also, will we be able to look down from them?

How will anti-botting measure be implemented into clan citadels.? My main concern is it will turn into a neglected area (similar to pohs these days) used only for niche bonuses (like an xp boost, similar to alter in poh) and for a place for bots to train their skills up free of reports, ready to terrorise rune rocks and yew trees everywhere. Or what about clans full of bots that just work constantly to get the best cidadel?


Check it out, huge amount of effort has gone into this massive mod!

Will there be new - hard to obtain - materials used to construct things in the citadels? As in if you have 200 Nex bones could you make a statue. Similar to talking heads but really showing off your clan's achievements.

For bragging rights and stuff obviously.

Is the maintenance of Clan Citadels a constant ongoing need to prevent the loss of features (as opposed to just a form of points to buy upgrades and get the XP bonuses), and if so how will the loss of features be dealt with relating to customization of the Clan Citadel?

 

Will Non-paying members be able to access the clan Citadel of the clan they are in, in any form (i.e. restricted activities, specific areas, or full access)?

 

Will Clan Citadel's be using the recently introduced instance worlds, be restricted to a single world, or exist separately in all worlds?

 

Will the changing of the Clan Citadel require entering a separate mode similar to Construction's building mode or can it be performed while other clan members are present, and what sorts of controls are there for setting who can modify a Clan Citadel?

 

Can Guests come to a Clan's Citadel, and if so what ways will a clan be able to control those who are allowed in (either allowing everyone or no one in, allowing people in on invite, only those currently in the clan's chat as a guest, friends of members of the clan, etc.)? Also, if guests are allowed into Clan Citadels will it be possible to restrict which portions of the Citadel they can go to?

 

What will happen to the Citadel if a clan no longer has any Paying members?

 

EDIT:

Will the requirements for Citadel upgrades be the same for all clans, or will they scale with the size of the clan (or the number of paying members in the clan)?

Will unmaintained citadels degrade and lose the tiers of advancement you mentioned, or are those upgrades permanent?

How do you decide what features to add to a big update like this given that so many updates are filled with unused parts or are entirely unused?

 

Can we form dunge parties from citadels?

Will clan citadels be similar to the new fight caves (Where friends from different worlds can all join the same citadel), or will clan-mates have to be in the same world?

How much is the Construction skill involved, and are there features that aren't purely decorative that require levels higher than 75 in that skill?

Is it similar to PoH concept, and what's the difference between PoH/Clan Citadel if so?

 

Do you plan on having more buildings floating in the Sky?

Will using the Clan Citadel/clan rings be efficient at 1m/hr? How about 5m/hr?

Will we be able to train combat or skilling, or both? And is the decision of the training methods up to the clan owner, like if there are magic trees, or rune rocks, an agility coarse or a furnace , stuff like that? Also will there be a bonus to training on a citadel compared to traditional methods? By the way this sounds like a great update, even though I might have to join a new clan because mine is just about dead. <_<

Thought of another one:

Oh that would be neat! A whole clan city! If not move the POH there, there could be a wall of portals at the edge of the citadel map that can link to members' POH's.

How hard will it be to upgrade a citadels tier? Will it just be a huge flat fee that might make it harder for smaller clans to compete for new members against bigger ones or will there be some way to vary the cost of upgrading it based on the number of members in a particulare clan?

 

Pretty much the only thing that concerns me at this point is how this will effect smaller clans.

It's been said that the clan citadel won't cost gp/require outside materials, and you won't be able to take resources from the citadel to the outside world.

Whose levels will the building be based off of?

 

Will max total level players be able to temporarily join a clan just so that they can build something they would normally be unable to?

 

Will five players be required to maintain the citadel?
