Bursting Rock Lobs

I'm looking to burst rock lobs sometime in the next couple of weeks and have a few questions:

Is it hard to find a world without another person?

I'm looking to do about 42k casts (will get me 90 mage), looking at some average charm rates this looks like it should get me 96 summoning, but to make sure (since I trust knowledge here more than anywhere..) what are the charm rates per 1k bursts (all charms, not just crims)?

Ahrims + SOL or Battle robes, taking into account how many casts? Also, is prossy really needed when luring? And about how long are trips?

World finding is not too difficult but there are definitely still a fair number of people doing this. When I go I usually just set the world list in order of ping and go down it checking for people. It takes between 4 and 8 hops usually to find an empty world so it is not that hard.

Bursting is about 130 - 160 charms an hour IRC but I am not totally sure some people will recommend that you use earlier level barrages for faster kills. You'll have to research this and decide yourself however. The charms figure is crimsons equivalent I think (so you convert the amount of golds you get to crimsons based on the experience you would earn - not sure about this though).

I would personally go with Ahrim's unless you already have a set of battle robes and the points to charge them twice over. I would say prossy is definitely very useful when luring (initiate is possible) because of the prayer saved and the slight defense it gives against the ranged daggannoth. Trips can be very long upwards of 4 hours, I personally do not do these kind of trips as I like to keep up my farming and get bored of doing the same thing for that amount of time. Using the door's chat (burstinglobs) you can easily get to the rock lobsters in 4-5 mins and find a world in a similar amount of time. This means that there isn't really that much advantage of camping rock lobsters over doing more shorted trips.

^ Many things I don't agree with in the above post.

I have been bursting since level 84 mage and got 98 a few days ago. I have charms for 98 summoning banked (that's 10,000 crimsons banked at the moment). Did this for a really long time.

So, it's not hard to find a world usually, I find one in the first 1-4 world hops. :)

I highly recommend you to use battle robes as it cuts the price into half, which will save you a lot for 42k bursts. Proselyte is also very important. Tip: If you have 30m to spend, I HIGHLY recommend you to buy and bring a SGS. I am probably the only oone who uses it there but it's extremely helpful. Every lure, I spec a melee dagganoth, which heals Hp and most importantly, Prayer. Battle robes will last for roughly 3k bursts (I avg 2950 bursts or so), and I always do 3k bursts trips. With a SGS, I bring only TWO prayer potions for the whole 3k bursts, which takes ~6-7 hours. I basically go there with free inventory, lol. :)

For the charm rate, per hour (~450 bursts, do the calcul yourself to find for 1k bursts if you'd like), I averaged ~130 crimsons, 65 golds, 40 greens and 6-8 blues.

Tips: Bring a Vecna skull, it can boost your magic level by 6 or 7 every 7 mins and has infinite charges (only costs 700k).

Also, use 'Burstinglobs' friends' chat to find a door partner to get in the dungeon, and if you happen to die, go in that chat and let them know precisely your world and the location where you died, someone should bless you. :D

--

In overall, for 42k bursts, you should get ~12,000 crimsons, which, with other charms you'll get (blue, green and gold) SHOULD bring you (from lv88) to 98 summoning, if not 99! :D

It will also get you 99 HP and Mage!

(You can trust me on this, I started bursting at lv84 mage when I was level 88 summon, which is almost the same as you.)

Best of luck with this :) If you have anymore questions feel free to send me a PM. :thumbup:

Random Section on Rock Lobs vs Waterfiends

Since this question comes up daily, i'll take the time to write a full comparison - then feel free to copy paste it each time. I haven't done "efficiency" figures in great depth,

Calculations etc

Rock Lobs

Crimson Charm: 56% 1/1 [swamp Titan (373.6)]

Gold Charm: 28% 2/1 [barker Toad (87)]

Green Charm: 13% 4/1 [Fruit Bat (121.2)]

Blue Charm: 2% 25/1[Geyser Titan (783.2)

~ Crimson XP Ratio

Gold: 1/4.2

Green:1/3

Blue: 1/0.5

Crimson: 1/1

Assuming the charms are spent on those - this can obviously be modified, but this is usually the crux area of summoning (85-95)

270 per 1000 Burst, 500 Casts/hr

Bursting

Crimson = 135

Gold = 65

Green = 30

Equivalent Crimsons

Gold: 15

Actual Cost/hr w/ Robes = 500k

Waterfiends AC

Crimson = 80%

Gold = 10%

Green = 5%

Cost Comparison Using Robes

[hide]

These were prices from a few days ago, obviously modify to whatever the current is.

For costs for Barrage.

Rune Costs 20/01/11

[blood Rune: 365 * 2]

[Death Rune 327 * 4]

[Water Rune: 29 * 6]

1000 Barrage = (2142gp) *.50 (50% Rune Save) = 1.07M in COST per 2 Hours.

+ 20% Chance of saving ~350gp (avg death/blood) per cast.= ~70gp per cast (included in above barrage sum)

Recharge Robes = 1.5Hrs of FOG (F2p world) every 8 Hours of Combat.

Per Battle Robes you save - 4.3M in Cost.

Thus if your income is < 2.8M an hour you should use Battle Robes.

1000 Barrages will typically give you

~370 Crimsons (treat the other runes as "free")

Cost per Crimson = 2890 gp

For Burst:

[Chaos Rune: 51 * 4]

[Death Rune 327 * 2]

[Water Rune: 29 * 6]

1000 Burst = (1000) *.50 (50% Rune Save) = 500k in COST per 2 Hours.

+ 20% Chance of saving ~189gp (avg death/chaos) per cast.= ~37gp per cast (included in above sum)

Recharge Robes = 1.5Hrs of FOG (F2p world) every 8 Hours of Combat.

Per Battle Robes you save - 2M in Cost.

Thus if your income is < 1.5M an hour you should use Battle Robes.

1000 Bursts will give you

~ 270 Crimsons (Other runes not included)

Cost per Crimson = 1850gp

[/hide]

Barrage Vs Burst w/ Robes

[hide]

7500 Crimsons actual as an example (other runes not taken into consideration)

Total cost for 7500 Crimson for Barrage:

20,000 Barrages Required = 21.5m (With Robes)

40 Hours

5 Battle Robes Recharges (7.5 Hours)

Total Time & Cost

47.5 Hours

21.5m

Total cost for 7500 Crimson for Burst

27,000 Burst Required = 13.5M

54 Hours

7 Battle Robes Recharges (10.5 Hours)

Total Time & Cost

64.5 Hours

13.5M

Cost Difference:

21.5M - 13.5M = 8M

Time Difference: 64.5 - 47.5 = 17 Hours

Cost Vs Time = 8 Million gp / 17 Hours = 470,000

If you plan on using Battle Robes & have access to both Ice Barrage and Ice Burst, you should NOT use ice burst if you plan on using and recharging robes. (500k an hr can be made easily)

If you are not using Robes, double the cost/hr.

Since Battle Robes last 8 hours (of rock lobs), playing FoG and assuming you can gain the tokens in 90minutes (from personal experience).

90 minutes of FoG (burst) = 2m equivalent "gp"

90 minutes of FoG (barrage) = 4m equivalent "gp"

[/hide]

[/hide]

TLDR EQUIVALENT CRIMSON RATES:

Bursting: 170

Barraging: 240

Waterfiend AC: 150

Waterfiend CT: 205

Which shows that battle robes are not worth it when bursting, you should at least be barraging.

@Gradeskip thats a lot of helpful information, thanks :) I was using the tipit calculator though and it said 42k bursts would take me to 90, or is that not taking into account possible mage xp from damage?

@Enaid do you mean only using Battle Robes when barraging? If so, then I should probably switch to Smoke Barrage when I can use it and charge up some robes?
