jimmy_say_hi
If you have been anywhere near the Grand Exchange lately you will have noticed, in between the gold farming advertisement spam, the amount of people "Doubling Money". Any experienced player can tell that this is simply a scam, aimed at lazy and greedy players looking for a quick buck. However while high-alching today at the G.E I saw, in 10 minutes, 7 people shouting "OMGZ YOU SCAMMED ME! GIMME MY MONEY BACK". No matter how many times I try and tell people that it's a scam, I get flamed and ignored because "No i reli can dubbel, im lagit, no scam" However, there is a simple solution to this problem. When an update is released, most players will read the details of it on the homepage. At the bottom of the new update details, is a segment called "In Other News...". My suggestion to reduce the number of people scamming and being scammed, is to add a few sentences into the next updates notes saying something along the lines of "Many people have been offering to "Double Money" lately. There is NO WAY to double money besides a 1 trade offer." Yes, I know it's not perfect, but it is a way to reduce the amount of unhappy players and the amount of abuse reports received daily. I would love to hear your thoughts and further suggestions on this topic :)
Vroqren
I know exactly what you mean. I think I have another idea - put it in a "Message of the week" right before they log in. Even though nobody really cares, everybody reads those just to pass time as it logs in. So, if it says something simple like "Don't believe anyone doubling your money - it's a scam!" Then sooner or later, people will realize - "Oh, maybe it's not a good idea to give somebody I've never met before 1-2 million coins. Maybe I should just keep my coins as they are!" Cheat
I was amazed when I saw the other day in W24 a player wearing a purple and full third age melee stand there and say "Doubling money just doubled bank staking" people went up to him and traded to which he answered 'Thankyou have fun with it' and oddly enough they just stood there almost like they hadn't realized they'd been scammed the audacity of the guy was quite something I must've seen 20 people trade him before he decided to run away he would've made about 10m in 10 minutes without any need for the money whatsoever - thought I'd share this little story with you all. WiFi
If you're dumb enough to fall for it then it's your own fault in my opinion. An easier and more effective way of applying this is to add it to the lobby message thing above the play button.

Helm_Lardar
I honestly believe that all of these scams have their origins in being nice. Genuinely, you have too much money, you're bored, and you decide you'll double people's cashpile. For free. Or you'll trim their armour. For free. Or you'll host a drop party. At a secret location. Genuinely, if I was stupidly rich and I was bored, I would rather do this than host some stupid organised lottery. But I'd want the people to be trusting, so I wouldn't do it in one trade. It's not always a scam. It just is most often, and I believe the torva and purple may have been a genuine doubling from a guy who had no idea what to do with his newfound cash. No-one complained in your story, so I don't see what's wrong. You're just too quick to judge. I'm not an efficienado.

He's not too quick to judge at all, I've never seen actually doubling people's money in one trade. I have swallowed the bitter pill, I can taste it, I can taste it, life is real! Kevill
I just... It's bad. Yes. But... How? Why? How could someone fall for a scam like that?Derp I'm going to trade my money to this person because he's going to give me backtwice what I gave him. What at all makes any sense about that? Nothing. If people don't have the common sense to not trade their money to someonewith no return back during the trade, then they will continue to be scammed forever. Once one method dies, two more will emerge. We cannot spend our time babying up the world, including RuneScape, to persons with no common sense. Aezze
I done this doubling money before and they actually doubled my money, but I think it's that they build up so much trust so lets say he calculated it he'd given me 45m, he'd throw everything away and take 50m from me so therefore he's just made a profit, stupid I know... Roxie
They've added something like that to the little motto part in the lobby, Also, would love the "doubling money" scam to be instant ban-able, Sick of seeing the newer players of rs fall into the trap (I do try to prevent it, But some people don't listen)
pulli23
This scam is even more unbelievable than trimming outfits: who in their right mind falls for it.. While having enough cash that it won't be possible to recollect everything from ground in less than 20 hours? Really, who? First they came to fishingand I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing Then they came to the yewsand I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews Then they came for the oresand I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores Then they came for meand there was no one left to speak out for me. tyluke
warnings should be put in the security stronghold, player tutorials etc. if players are actually giving away money there are other ways to do it, via the party room etc or free drops. otherwise if you get scammed its your own fault. you don't give away money expecting double back in real life, dont expect that here. The people offering these scams aren't people to be trusted. simply put. I appreciate your concern for other players but some lessons just need to be learned the hard way, and it should be exceptionally difficult when Jagex warns players in numerous places about scams :) only 2 skills below level 50 :)
