Meh I guess that's just me then :P

I love inter-game references. (Like the running reference "cow level" from blizzard which pops up in each game since diablo). Or the fact you find zergs at wc3 maps, and if you cut all forest in some maps you see an icon drawn on the ground..

I love to find those "easter eggs", especially in minigames like runescape. And the slums could've been full with these things (like the labda/cake somewhere drawn on a wall)

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

The game already has loads of easter eggs, and yeah I enjoy seeing them every now and then too, but I'd rather that they not break the tone of one of the only atmospheric areas in the entire world just to say, "Hey, remember this [X]? Sure is a cool [X]."

Also they could've added a bit more "humor"/"popular reference". IE in the slums they could've "accidentally" added symbols from half life/portal.

Can you say mood-killer? I wouldn't mind a little black comedy in the dialogue or something but stupid, lighthearted pop culture references have no place in the Myreque quests.

And theres the issue of using trademarked copyrighted logos in a comercial project when they dont own them logos

Not likely: logo usage (at least in EU) falls most often under fair use. And is allowed to be used as long as it doesn't promote something or is used to "lift on others succes". Easter eggs certainly are faire use as they are not the main thing.

But not specifically trademarked items, its why you never see exact logos used as easter eggs, all the big companies trademark all the logos so they cant be used.

Well I doubt a sentence like "XXX is a lie" can even be trademarked. Nor can a labda within a circle, as that's just a mathematic symbol. But good references aren't direct references, the best are when you think "hey I've heard that before......" ..... "aaaah that was it"

look into that other game I spend too much time on (league of legends), it's full of those easter eggs:

some girl hero's taunt: "In the name of the moon demacia, I'll punish you"

some heros dance:

A hero (based around animated metal) his abilities are all named after metal songs

@above: yes but did you notice that when you were just doing the quest? (I did it the very first hours it came out). I remember going like 2-3 times through the maze, it was not fun (well as I said the first time it's a new experience and it is fun, afterwhich it becomes jsut a waste of time and an annoyance).

Use your key then. :P Just being able to skip the maze destroys the storyline.

The maze of [cabbage] to go through not in only reaching quest start points but also Meryditch is complete stupidity if you have to do it more than one time. Hell even if you decide not to go through it a second or third time, you go to the mines and have to the find that tiny house in the middle of the rest of it and it is distracting and annoying.

Thankfully they have promised a way to teleport around Morytania after the next quest. May be the only useful thing to come out of the quest series in my opinion.

Just to extend that thought, places I hate in RS are as follows: Elf Forest area, Mroytania, and the Desert. These "terrain" type areas make me mad. I understand their adherence to "real life" style gameplay, but it bugs the hell out of me and I hate having to run through mazes or do an agility course just to get to the next town.

Personally I hate the desert and elf areas a lot more than Meryditch, mostly because the elf and desert areas actually cause you damage almost all the time unless you come prepared, but in Meryditch you can just time things well and even if you screw up you can either go to the mines or try and distract the vyres, or heck even just run away if they attack you. As long as I don't have to bring a certain kind of item to avoid damage I don't hate areas, plus the kind of tension (Whether from fear or anger) is quite accurate for the tone of the quest and it's not like they force you to go there when you're not questing for skills or anything...

Meiyerditch is a lot more enjoyable to navigate than Elf lands, which is really annoying, but the Desert is as easy as hell to get around. You can use the carpets to get everywhere.

I cannot believe so many of you guys dislike the Myreque storyline, I feel that it is one of Jagex's best outputs. The mood, atmosphere and the setting really enhance what I feel is a great storyline. If you get into the storyline and not attempt to rush through the quest, it becomes far more enjoyable. Overall it is a very good questline, and I may consider renewing my subscription just to get access to it.

You really should like questing for the fun of them, and not just for the rewards. I also like the Myreque storyline, along with the Temple Knights, Fairy Tale, Dorgeshuun Goblin, Making History (was quite interesting 2-part series), and the Mahjarrat series (more of the sub series - Mysteries of the Mahjarrat). I think that out of all of them, I really did enjoy the Myreque storyline the most. (I like the more dark feeling that Mortyania has, especially Burgh de Rott/Meiyerditch/to be released Darkmeyer).

Thing is, since I have my quest point cape, I've forgotten a lot about the storylines. But they come back to me when I start back in the storyline thankfully.

*Am I the only one that LIKED that maze? I thought it was really, REALLY fun ;_; And it wasn't THAT hard to get around, you just had to follow the symbols on the walls.*

Well the problem isn't for me the maze in itself, it's the fact that you HAVE to go through lengths of time to go somewhere there, while you have done those things in the past already.

First they came to fishing

and I didn't speak out because I wasn't fishing

Then they came to the yews

and I didn't speak out because I didn't cut yews

Then they came for the ores

and I didn't speak out because I didn't collect ores

Then they came for me

and there was no one left to speak out for me.

tbf the myreque maze:

You only HAVE to go through it twice in the quest iirc.

Then post quest you get a key that unlocks a fairly substantially shortcut which removes a good 75% of the maze.

AND in the sequel you gain access to the blood altar tunnel that allows you to avoid the maze entirely, even if it is a bit of a run.

Well it goes on keyring so hardly a bank space eatter and I'd assume anyone who dislikes the maze would have common sense enough to keep it given that the quest series is not over and the destroy menu clearly indicates safalaan is the one who can replace your key and he is at the far end of the maze.

Are there any actual reasons you dislike difficult to navigate terrain other than it being difficult to navigate? Without the maze, not only would the blood tithe part of the storyline have made little sense, the entire idea of being in a city where the citizens are restricted to certain sectors and a secret underground group has cleverly marked a route to their base would be destroyed.

If you really hate being challenged in the quests, why do you even do them?

Got to say, looks like a very good month.

I'm wondering if anyone else noticed the lack of mention of a bonus XP weekend? I'm not sure whether or not Jagex announced it in the BTS last time.

BXPW will be the second week of september, has nothing to do with BTS of August.

There will be an anouncement in the last week of August.

Me and the wise old man go way back.... he was a foolish boy back then.

My crystal armour idea.

Could also get your ass caught by a Vyrewatch, get sent to the mines, and mine your way to freedom/the Myreque Hideout. That's what I do.

Because let's be honest who has the money to pay 500gp for that Key Ring again? Not me. That's almost 2 cannonballs for slayer!

I like that maze, it gave a nice touch to the backstory. I also keep every single questitem that could be useful, it isn't that hard, only 150-180 items in one tab, organised by armour/series/keys and so on.

But oh well, it might be because I love quests, not for the reward, but just for the stories and atmosphere. :P

That'd be cool if they updated MA so it wasn't just a test to see how much suffering people will tolerate to get the best rings in the game.

Or if they made the best rings obtainable through more fun minigames.

Or if they just removed MA completely. That'd be cool too.

Wishfull thinking?

Well I doubt they'll change any minigame for real.. Just update some rewards..

But as people only play for rewards nowadays that's what everyone seems to think is a good month.
