A word of warning thought - the Black Dragon data will be slightly flawed as sometimes I do KBD's for the task, I haven't differentiated for this in the spreadsheet.

What do you mean?

If there is no data on no block task lists, don't research them - there being no data means there are not a lot of people using such lists, which means any data will have limited application anyway. Better to research a common task list such as max effigies.

It's going to be a few weeks before I slay for 99 Summoning, however, I'll log exp/hr, effigies and other drops, as well as summoning charms. I'll be using the fastest setup(might not use overloads, but I'm getting 96 herb and 95 prayer at least, as well as all three chaotic melee weapons if possible.)

Just curious. Is any of the data collected for Vex' spreadsheet of use to you. I've recorded around 100 tasks on that, but for skipped tasks, I don't have the number assigned(Although I still have my last 50 or so tasks in my notepad, with assigned). Also, I have no charm data.

Some other discrepancies are that all of my Dagannoth tasks are marked as skipped, as well as a couple black dragon tasks because I always DK for my tasks, and occasionally do KBD. This could be fairly easily fixed, because I did still record a lot of that data, and kept in my notepad.

Also, I recorded no charm data.

 

Take a look at my spreadsheet, as well as my notepad, and let me know if it's any use. If it is, I will move it all into your slayer log and start recording data there.

Mmk so now that you have that data, I should just start my new sheet fresh, without any of that data?

 

Also, do you have any plans of implementing a Form into your sheet that inputs data automatically. That's what Vex has in his and it makes it a lot easier to input data and ensures that everyone types their data in the same way, making it much easier to mass export data.

@ Brainy, please use the new sheets without the old data. I will spend some time this week and try to learn how to write forms and see if I can come up with something similar to Vex's.

If you want, I can probably write a form. I got partially into it, but it takes a lot of time because you have to have the first page of the form be to choose the assigned task, and then have that direct you to the next page, which is different for each task, to choose the task type. Then once that is complete, have it move to the last page, where all the other data is entered in.

Might wanna change the Task skipped to Multiple choice rather than checkboxes. Also, having your sample "Dust Devils" in there messes up the data a bit if people don't delete it, and if they do, it seems to mess with the formatting a bit.

I'm curious. How do you plan on using data that have different block lists?

The first thing I'm going to look for is distribution in each log to see if there is a relationship between the tasks you do get and how often they occur. With a big enough sample size to have valid data with different sets, I *should* be able to come up with fairly accurate numbers.

 

Now one thing I am concerned about is that the tasks you may receive could be effected by the Combat level of the person, IE) Someone who is 120 combat, may have a different distribution of tasks then that of someone who is 138. With that I need to eliminate some variables or assume Ceteris Paribus.

 

I have the feeling some things may need to change but until I get some data to look at I can't validate those assumptions.

I'm a Slayer noob. This sounds like a perfect excuse to feed my Slayer addiction (as opposed to, say, skilling.). Count me in.

I assume the best way to figure this one out would be to separate data by various combat and slayer levels. The rule of Ceteris Paribus is useful, but only once you've got a pretty good idea of what factors effect the task frequencies. If you eliminate factors beforehand, there is a high chance that your going to find an incorrect causation. If you can get a few maxed players(combat/slayer/gear wise) and use their data to form a baseline, then compare it to data from various combat/slayer levels, it should be pretty easy. This assumes, of course, that the data samples are large enough(ie: I've got fifty tasks where a vast majority were the same monster[though they may have fixed this awhile back], however these fifty tasks didn't represent my overall ratio of tasks.)

 

I'm not sure what a good sample size is, and it would be hard to calculate lower level players task frequencies because the individual sample size at each level is going to be small [because of level gains]. It's also going to be skewed based on what players block/skip, though if everyone uses the most efficient task lists, this could be worked around without issue.

 

The study will take a good while, and I plan to start tracking my data when I return to the skill in a few weeks, but it should give some interesting information that could be rather useful. ie: If we know the frequency of tasks, we'd know the chances of skipping a task only to get another equally bad task [which is useful when your low on points].
