QUESTION:

Jagex, what are they doing?

It is clear to everyone that Jagex, the makers of RuneScape are more into money the last months and that the players will suffer from that. A Jagex moderator has not confirmed this but it is commonly known. But we would like to ask to give a little bit more respect to Jagex because they are likely to be in bad times. There are many causes for that, but none has been officially confirmed

ANSWER:

Cause 1 - Failed projects: Many projects such as MechScape and War of Legends have proved to be a failure. Because of that Jagex has lost thousands of dollars. The only real game where they make much profit with is RuneScape, but the money they make with it is decreasing too. Hopefully StellarDawn and 8Realms will become a bit bigger success because otherwise this could be the downfall of the Runescape as we know it.

Case 2- Investors: A part of the investors in Jagex are money-grubbers. Jagex can however hardly provide it to them so they are forced to make as much profit out of Runescape. The brothers Gower, the creators of RuneScape and first developers of Runescape have even almost no power at Jagex.

Case 3- decreasing hits: Probably is this for many an unknown case, but the amount of hits to Runescape has been halved last year! That means less profit for Jagex, in the graphic below this text you will find the amount of hits in the last few months:

Case 4 - Dungeoneering: Dungeoneering is a skill that they have worked on from the beginning of RuneScape, but dungeoneering did not work out as planned. The result of this is even more loss for Jagex. The original idea of a new skill is next the fun to get new players/members. This was not the case with Dungeoneering.

Case 5 - The image: The image of RuneScape at people that are playing it is very low. It is seen as "TheMMORPG for kids". Of course we know this is not the case. But sadly RuneScape will never lose this image. There are some people just quitting because of the image.

Case 6 - Little advertisement: There is not much advertisement for Runescape: It is never stated in the known game-magazines and there are not many ads for the game. There is no money for ads. The only possibility for players to still find Runescape is pure luck of mouth-to-mouth advertisement. The problem is that most people will be laughed at if they say in public to everyone that they play RuneScape, what partly drops the last option.

The consequences of their losses are not to overlook, but it unfortunately is for Jagex also the only way to get money. A few of them are written below.

Result 1 - No action against botting: Bots are for Jagex one of the most sources of income. The most bots are members. Jagex acts to the players like they take action against the bots, but this is not or nearly not the case. The game cannot miss the bots: without them the whole economy of Runescape would crash.

Result 2 - Real-World-Trading: Without to much awareness Jagex will begin with Real-World Trading themselves, while this is forbidden by themselves. Just think at the loyalty points that have come and think at the ornate katana. The ornate katana is a object people in the US can get as they buy a game card in the shop.

Result 3 - Wilderness & free trade: In February the wilderness and free trade came back. This preceded with (probably) a corrupt vote. With the comeback of the wilderness and free trade many ex-players became again members and there came a lot of more bots in the game. This caused Jagex to gain much profit. The amount of hits raised with millions but it was in vain: after a few weeks the amount of hits decreased again much.

Result 4 - Bad quality updates: With less money you cannot expect to produce beautiful updates al the time. The little money is also the reason of the bad quality of the updates. The only things today what Jagex does a lot are graphic updates and that may also be said once.

With this article we hope that you also understand the side of Jagex. You yourself can also help to solve the problem of Jagex to recruit new players.

Hate to break it to you, but this is not part of the J-Mod Interview on the Lunagang.nl site. This is based on independent research and analysis by the editors and contributors to the site's articles, much like Tip.it.

Nonetheless, this text is noteworthy and insightful.

Lol I just translated it from lunagang in 200m topic and it is not the interview with the Jmod (It looked like it but it was not) Sorry to say that.

But still it is an interesting read, but it isn't from the mod :)

I just hope that what they say isn't true (and I disagree with the bot part, they don't get that much from bots as the article suggests, keep in mind some of them use stolen credit card numbers).

This text is the second article from that edition of the Lunagraaf... It is not part of Mod Moonie's interview.

Have the kindness and respect to credit them as they deserve.

Somethings here are spot on I think. You're absolutely right about the image of the game and sadly its true people do see this game that way. Then again if there's not guns and blood in a game its going to be viewed that way anymore it seems.

Also its hard to refer new people to RuneScape. Most everyone interested in gaming online has heard of it, and many of them at some point tried it out. Anyway, even if you convince someone to come to RuneScape its hard to convince them to stay and a lot of it has to do with being overrun with bots. For instance the massive spamming in any area with people, all the bots taking all the trees you're trying to cut, and so own. Its hard for someone new to fall in love with the game like many of us did. Most people just wouldn't be interested in paying $5.95 a month for this game with these types of problems. Honestly, I don't think its so much updates that needed to be added right now. Jagex just needs to focus on trying to fix the smaller things right now and keeping the players they have happy. That way they don't lose everyone that plays the game.

Some rich runescape addict (I'm sure theres a few.) should just buy out all the investors and own runescape, then put effort into listening to the community and putting out updates the community approves of and cutting out the bad ones. This would not be profitable at first, but once the game is actually great and people enjoy playing it, more players will join and you'll make money than ever without having to resort to the sleazy money grubbing and back stabbing ways the game is in now.

Everyone thinks they can do better than the current leaders, but christ, i think my 3 year old niece could do better than jagex right now at making the game popular and liked.

Since it's confirmed it's not an interview with a JMod. Can any admins change the title to something more suitable? Or lock if seen fit.
