Pray switching

So I'm trying for the firecape again, but I can't seem to ever actually beat Jad, I've gotten there three times and I can never seem to get the prayer switching down. It seems like no matter how early I pray for his attacks he hits me. I know that when he rises up and slams the ground thats his range attack, and that when he lowers his head and grows a ball on his back thats magic. So my question is how early do I have to switch? Is it too late already if the attack has already left and is traveling towards me? Or is it only too late after the attack has actually hit me? Any advice would be greatly appreciated

You have to switch before he fires the attack ergo when he is rising up or charging the mage ball.

Don't quote me on this (haven't attempted, or even played properly in close to a year), but I believe there's a window of a second or two after the animation to switch if you haven't already. As I say, don't quote me on this, but I seem to remember surviving his hits, even if I was changing it slightly after the animation took place. :)

Many believe that the 1980 eruption of Mt. Saint Helens was a catostrophic geological event, in reality it was the day that Jimi Hendrix returned to Earth from the next world and actually stood up next to a mountain and chopped it down with the edge of his hand.

pretty sure this is wrong

Well its what I've always been told and it definitely works. Before an attack is actually fired (for range and mage) on pretty much any monster the prayer will work if flicked on; after its in the air it won't.

Admittedly not got much experience with Jad so perhaps there is a delay with attack in air prayer swap working; but hey the charge animations give more than enough time to switch and 100% definitely the prayer will block it if swapped then.

So where's the harm in swapping slightly earlier than 100% vital? (assuming I am wrong about jad)

Watch some youtube videos (or better yet click on the video along with the person to get the hang of it) and you'll learn. If you can pray flash or ss flash it's a lot like that. You just have to time it right.

Come support my max total goal here.

Briobe122's 10-step guide to staking:

1. Get cleaned

2. Vow to never stake ever again! (very important)

3. welfare tds and get claws

4. kill glacors til i get boots

5. bandos ffa or more tds til i have around 50m

6. realize that it is far too hard to rebuild using steps 3, 4, and 5

7. give up the vow to never stake again

8. go back staking and make your bank back

9. if you failed at step #8, Go back to step #1

10. if you succeed at step #8, you will eventually feel the need to make money for rich people stuff, have a bad day of staking, then get cleaned anyways

A good way to get a feel of when you have to switch is to think of Jad as an opponent in PvP.

When you attack someone in PvP(Or anything, but I'm using PvP as the example), you get the exp drop slightly before the damage shows up. This means that the hit and damage are determined at that time, and if your opponent turns on prayer after the exp drop, but before the damage, the damage removal won't be calculated.

So using this logic, i imagine Jad's damage is calculated right as the fireball leaves his back. Or right before you can see the rock fall from the top of your screen(right after the animation is done). Of course this could be wrong, but having prayer switched Jad myself, you eventually get a feel for it and you know when you mess up before the damage actually hits you.

A bit of side advice: There's a reason why once you beat jad once, you basically can beat him with ease every time after that. Once you calm down and focus, it's not too difficult. But there are two things that should take priority: Making sure you don't walk within melee distance of Jad when you go to attack healers on the far side of him. And being sure to still have most of your attention on Jad. Once one of his attacks start, attack a healer. Wait for his next attack, attack the next one, and so on and so forth.

And keep trying! If you fail, try again! The reason i got my fire cape at 135 combat is because i never tried again after i failed.

Good luck!

I've killed Jad 5 times and every single time I did it I turned protect from ranged on after he'd already stomped down and it protected every time. As for mage, I'm not sure when it's too late to protect for that one because I always switch back to protect from mage after the ranged attack is blocked.
