Noxx
My dad had a flight to Miami via new York today. Hit flight was delayed for a while because they had to circle around the airport a few times to avoid the earthquake. No biggy though.
Sbrideau
Apparently they felt it here in New-Brunswick too, although at the south of the province. I wish I was still living there (moved out to the north of the province last week). I could've known what it was like, although I still probably wouldn't really have felt it. sees_all1
According to the talking heads on the news, the east coast is denser and colder so the earthquake waves propagate further and can be more intense. Also, buildings on the east coast aren't constructed with earthquakes in mind, so even a small to medium sized one can be devastating. That said, I didn't feel anything in West Lafayette, IN. I was watching the news when it happened, was pretty interesting. 99 dungeoneering achieved, thanks to everyone that celebrated with me! ♪♪ Don't interrupt me as I struggle to complete this thoughtHave some respect for someone more forgetful than yourself ♪♪♪♪ And I'm not doneAnd I won't be till my head falls off ♪♪

magekillr
Hmmmm, U.S. nuclear officials said that the North Anna Power Station, which has two nuclear reactors, had lost offsite power and was using diesel generators to maintain cooling operations after an 5.9 earthquake hit the region. The North Anna plant, which was near the epicenter of Tuesday's quake, is reportedly located on a fault line. The U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission rates the plant as the seventh most likely to receive core damage from a quake. But they say the chances of that are only 1 in 22,727. Also, according to Dominion Power, it was only built to withstand a range of 5.9-6.1. Of course, a long, sustained shaking can be more destructive than a short, but more energetic quake...and the Richter scale doesn't tell us that sort of stuff. But after Japan, this doesn't exactly make me feel good (especially because the North Anna Power Plant is 20 minutes from my house, prolly like 10 miles in terms of distance).
