essiw
Sorry to say but we have had this thread for tons of times... and has been discussed to death... For example one argument: Has it occurred to you that some people use the game client or other clients or don't skip the intro movie page (The page you first are on when you didn't have accessed Runescape.com before) http://sign.tip.it/1/2/79/260/essiw.png Retired item crew I would like to be credited as essiw at the website update & corrections forum. Sy_Accursed
Such ranking sites SUCK as they do not at all monitor everything and that is why they show pointless "traffic rankings" that could mean any number of stupid things.Plus they all only monitor specific input sources (eg people with their add-on/tracker installed) and as eissW rightly points out not everyone hits runescape.com game clients eliminate a huge segment of traffic, as do users with tabbed browsers that use sleep/hibernate as the page doesn't get reloaded. Plus factor in the movie intro, that if you tick to skip means you are re-directed from runescape.com which holds the intro page to something like runescape.com/title.ws which again dillutes traffic. Then sites like mini-clip offer the game embedded which divert runescape.com all together. tl;dr:These kind of graphs show nothing due to the many flaws in their data gathering and the many factors that eliminate web-traffic from a true reading of how things are. Doom-sayers have trotted them out hundreds of times, but they still mean nothing. And fyi alexa is one the WORST for traffic info, it only monitors browsers where its toolbar is installed, which is a very very very very very very small portion of internet users. pal2002
tl;dr you suckI <3 you too. As much as you'all hate me for this - realize that these are real numbers. The facts. The game is DEFINITELY in decline compared to ther games. But how much of the decline is due to competition/bots/repetitive game mechanics/whatever is up for your interpretation. The point here, don't kill the messenger - get Jagex to fix the damn game if you don't want to see the game die. ilovecuttingyews
As much as you'all hate me for this - realize that these are real numbers. The facts. The volume of hits to the homepage (spashpage) and internet searches for this game is DEFINITELY in decline compared to ther games.I fixed that for ya. Yes, we all know that the 'game is going downhill' in terms of community, updates, and overall player feelings towards it*, but you didn't offer any proof of that. All you have given proof of is the fact that less and less people are searching for RS on places like Google. I could show you player volume numbers for the last few years (it's in a thread from a monthish back) that shows this game is stronger than ever. Neither of these is definite proof of the true state of the entire game, only aspects of it. If you want that proof, you're going to have to break into Jagex HQ and steal their records because they don't give out detailed analysis of 'state of play' though I'm sure they do have them. *all three of these are debatable depending on playing style and personal preference. I just 'averaged' the general feelings I get from TIF and in-game.

Alexa rankings is the still gold standard for internet traffic. timmmmm83
Every time someone says: 'RS population is declining', someone replies: 'where is the proof of that?!? No that isn't the case!' Now someone provides indirect proof of a decreasing popularity and everyone feels the need to belittle him. Thanks for pointing it out, OP. Had a suspicion, but didn't think it was so bad. timmmmm83
You can disagree with someone, you can even find someone's opinion absolute rubbish. But instead of trying to convince the other guy of your opinion, a lot of people on this thread bash the author himself instead of his opinions. Just like this reply: "tl;dryou suck" Wth.... If you think the subject is discussed too much, fair enough. But these kind of reactions, comeone... I didn't read all the threads on Tip.It in the last 2 months so sorry if I missed anything, but it is stil rather new to me. (besides a thread about a year ago which had the same subject and the same reactions) @Newb (I'm going to try to be as ad homine as you are, it is not very hard actually):1) Your posts in this topic are mostly aimed at the sender, not at the message. 2) Your e-peen is now probably a tiny bit larger, hope you enjoy it! 3) Fight your battles in real life, being an e-thug isn't something to be proud of. @Sylpheed:"Nobody is disputing that the games popularity is declining. Everyone is just getting sick and tired of the exact same thread being posted in general discussion every other week."Fair enough, you have seen this discussion too much apparently. People aren't forced to read every single thread on Tip.It though and are certainly not obliged to respond to each thread that doesn't interest them.'Ortrademe' did put question marks behind RS popularity going downhill btw, a couple of posts above yours. @ortrademeAt the subject of: "they are only searches on Google(1) and people going to RS-homepage(2), the number of people playing is about the same(3)."1. If people don't search Runescape on Google, the #1 search engine, chances are more likely the game is going downhill.2. Most people I know stil go to RS-homepage and don't use the client, if you want to check updates you have to go to the homepage + RSOF is on there too.3. If it is actual people playing, that can be discussed too. Before anyone points a finger: I stil enjoy playing Runescape (classic atm). (Is it me or is the world just getting meaner and meaner each year... )

E-thug? No. I think you've already pointed out your flaw; you didn't read previous topics in the past months. Therefore you don't get the general gist of the OP. There's what, 3 (?) threads on the main page alone created by this user to put Jagex/RuneScape in a bad light. Even the opening post showing off their new building. "So this is where your money is going"... I'm not replying to boost anything; ego, e-peen, whatever you wish to call it. I can discuss in a normal manner, no problem. I've chosen not to, due to the nature of this particular thread. There's no fact behind anything posted by him. Claiming ones research as fact when using such limited sources is a rubbish argument. There are so many factors involved which have been left out, relying on only the one source from Alexa. Also take into consideration that younger users who play RuneScape stop when they return to school. School would have started back earlier this month. Those graphs show that. It's a yearly trend. EDIT: It's always a rise-and-fall situation, the exact same thread could be created every single year and prove absolutely nothing, because when you look at the bigger picture..Searches aren't relevant. http://www.sercrui.com/popgraph Go back as far as you can and graph it, that's judging by player numbers. It's an up-and-down roller-coaster the whole way. Absolutely nothing has changed this year that will sway from that track. Results on searches from Alexa prove notihng. The graph is results taken from players online. It holds more weight than searches from a search engine. If you're going to make an argument, take that graph and try and spin it your way about how RuneScape is still dying, years on after first having the 'RIP RS' title. Sy_Accursed
Yup no matter how much you argue Alexa is the "golden standard" it don't mean jack because web page hits measured that way skew data and totally overlook anything other than the first page people hit (which is rs case is a splash screen you can later divert from even if using the website) AND the all mighty flaw that you can't work around at all: Alexa only tracks users with the Alexa toolbar which means its data in no way represents general web trends or the general populace; I have never once come across anybody or any system at all who uses their toolbar in my entire life. NoHopeLeft
These graphs are certainly proof that people who play RS are less likely to use the Alexa toolbars than before. Cool.
