Mage, the new dps king

for years, since the whip prettymuch, melee has always been top of the food chain on dps. with the release of the rapier it became even more dominating, on top of already existing boosters like turmoil.

finaly after many years in sepetmber 2011, melee is no longer the #1 dps

the storm of armadyl at 77 mage has a base damage of 0-160, but every adding mage lvl boosts both the min and max by 5. this means at 99 mage, 22 lvls higer, the spell hits 110-270.

to further boost it, mage pot bonus works on top of it meaning at 106/99 mage you hit 145<->305 every hit.

now lets add on 30% mage dmg from arma bstaff + asn, and 1.21x from mage pot/wolper/ovl boosting by 1.573 makes the new hit range 228-479

this makes the average hit 353.5 on normal hits, being the same speed as a rapier this is the equivilent dps of a rapier hitting 707 max in normal combat

by adding in a slayer helm bonus the avg hit is boosted to 406.525, the same as a rapier maxing 813. Since a rapier maxs around 660 on slayer (not counting kuras for both)......... drumroll for the finale please..........

~~~~~~~~ THIS MEANS THE FINAL RAW DPS OF STORM OF ARMADYL IS ~1.23X HIGHER THAN A RAPIER ~~~~~~~~~
i never thought id see the day but melee has been dethroned for #1 raw dps (raw meaning accuracy not included, mage def/melee def still change results)
is everyone else as interested about this as i am?
This only applies if using the staff and spell together right?
the numbers i used assume that
HOWEVER....if you use storm of arma + chaotic staff it still beats rapier by like 6%, so it wins without staff, and wins even worse with staff
And you're not even taking into account that asn and staff stack too (32.25% not 30% boost) :).
Imo, the spell is too powerful and powerful in the wrong places. Magic doesn't need far higher pvp dps, it needs to be more viable in pvm, which it really still isn't considering the cost (and the low ranged defence of robes doesn't help at Bandos god wars etc.). What storm of Armadyl really is is a plaything for the very wealthy and a pvp spell, but it doesn't make magic any more viable for 95% of the players (non-wealthy and efficient players), even though it'd offer as high as 30% higher killrate on iron and steel dragons.
this is even more interesting is thats true
I'm 100% sure that you can hit higher than 406 with a Crapier.
Unless it's faster than Crapier, then I'm not seeing what you are getting at.
The max with the rapier would have to be 707 in normal combat and 813 with slayer helm to reach the same dps as the spell. The average hit is 406 not the max hit. Unlike a rapier the spell has a minimum damage it can hit instead of 0 making it have a higher average.
this makes the average hit 353.5 on normal hits, being the same speed as a rapier this is the equivilent dps of a rapier hitting 707 max in normal combat
All we need now is some Mage gear with ~250 Melee and Range Defense bonusses that isn't insanely expensive.
This. Except, mage gear doesn't get range def just like melee gear doesn't get mage def. What'd be more likely is higher accuracy mage gear with ok melee def, combined with a choice selection of melee gear that gives high range/melee def and minimal negative magic bonus.
Mage has always been really powerful in PVP to begin with, just maybe not something that can stand 100% on it's own until now. And the issue with PVM mage has always been one more of cost then DPS.
Buying spins make you a bad person...don't do it. It's like buying nukes for North Korea.
Well if it bothers you that the game is more fun now, then you can go cry in a corner. :shame:
your article was the equivalent of a circumcized porcupine
The only thing wrong with it is the lack of a percentage for when you need to stroke it.
Haaaaahhhhhh.
Have you ever tried mage TDs? The real pain in the ass is selecting the spell on top of every other thing you have to do. I actually gave Fire Surge a shot once because I have 99 range and 85 mage (and this was before I got extremes/ovls) and grave up because switching was a pain in the ass.
Of course, I wasn't as good at item swapping them, and part of it was how I seemed to take more damage then my usual set up due to low range def. But still, the real issue imo is APM; every time you switch styles you need to select/deselect the spell on top of everything else.
....
Okay, I'd totally actually try it at TDs if I had anywhere near enough money for the staff tbh.
Yeah that's going to be the only real problem. The switching is going to be a [bleep]. Might slow you down too much. But im sure that with a little practice one could do it efficiently enough.
