Maze
I remember Jagex saying that RS "will be their main focus" for the next few years. Then what? What do you think will happen to RS? Will it become a side-project or will it just slowly die off?
Utopia
Maybe Stellar Dawn or that Transformers MMO.
Carl
For the next 10 years, if I remember rightly. And they'll still be working on it, even then. But will have other games. (Transformers, Stellar Dawn...) RIP Michaelangelopolous

Vezon Dash
Notthisthreadagain.jpg On topic: It doesn't matter because we're all toast next year. I'll second this. Anyway, it will eventually just fade away. No new people will start playing, and it will just be old veterans playing. Once those people quit/move on, RS will die. enfield
I more wonder what will happen to THE WORLD in 50 years. Rs is just entertainment for humans, but it is very sophisticated entertainment relative to all the entertainment before it. I might care what happens to it (slightly), but if we're thinking about the future of anything (which is a hard thing to do), I would much rather think about humanity, and what's going to happen to us or not (if we're going to survive, not whether rs is going to survive). The first question seems way more important, and even relevant to the second one, because how can any entertainment (fun things in life) survive if humanity doesn't. It's okay though. I know we're all super addicted to rs. If would only be hard for maybe a week or so for most of us to get over its disappearance though. humans are surprisingly adaptable, more than we generally think we are. don't get me wrong though - that might be one tough week :P. Tecmaster
I imagine that Jagex will shift their focus on to other projects eventually and RS will be left to die off, sort of like fun orb is right now. Although it would be nice if Jagex kept developing the game, more likely than not eventually they'll shift focus to another game and RS will gradually get less and less support before it dies off. <_< Owner of the Quest Point Cape

Kirschen
Unfortunately, we have no way of knowing. This. I'm still thinking RS will be abandoned sooner than "the next few years" when it stops giving the profit they used to make.

Famous last words, anyone? Gotta agree. RuneScape isn't going to last much longer than a few years, not at this rate. They'll shift their energies to another product, if that product turns out to be more profitable than this is. Sly_Wizard
I used to think I was a pessimist, but over the years this board has become flooded with them. For as long as there is a profit to be made in Runescape, Jagex isn't going to abandon it. Killing off one profitable project for another-- especially when it comes to MMO's-- is stupid, because it's putting all your eggs in one basket. That's not how you run a company. You want to have multiple profitable games which capture different market segments. Jagex deciding to kill of Runescape should they create another game which eventually becomes more popular than Runescape would be akin to Blizzard decided to axe Diablo because WoW is much more popular. At most they'll downsize and reduce update frequency when the time comes that less people are playing.

Let them continue believing "The end is nigh!". If there's money to be made, it will continue to develop. It's still hugely popular, despite the opinions of a vocal minority. And that's not going to change any time soon. RIP Michaelangelopolous

@Dan3HitU
It's just the answer you thought in your head; left to die out. I would say die out then sell to another company, but I doubt it, people offered to buy RS-Classic and they never took the offer on, they'd rather the game die out and be in their possession than be in someone else's.
