Its official - League of Legends won Best Free-to-play.

Whats perhaps more shocking is that RuneScape finished third behind World Of Tanks.

World of Tanks? What even is that anyways?

Oh, and to repost what I was saying in another thread:

There is nothing to lose in being nominated for the GJA.

You win - props, a trophy and something to add to the marketing of the game (as well as the marketing recieved just by being nominated)

You lose - you still get that publicity.

win/win tbh. Nothing will change, deal with it.

Exactly.

Kinda sad to see how many spiteful nerds decided to vote against Runescape even though they never played any of the other games on the list. Way to be grateful for the thousands of hours of enjoyment you've gotten out of Runescape. Sure, Jagex has been puking out more marketing gimmicks as of late, but that's NORMAL. Any company that wants to make money does this. I bet most, if not all, of the other games in the "free play" category have some crap they pull to rake in a few extra dollars.

In the end, it doesn't really matter anyway. Publicity is publicity.

Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to cancel my membership and go play some WORLD OF TANKS: THE SECOND BEST GAME EVER.

Expected. Although a small part of me expected Jagex to somehow "steal" the first place as well. But overall, I don't really care whether they're first or last on that list. Wouldn't change anything for me.

It would've been misleading for people to vote in favour of RuneScape on the back of its P2P version of the game. I'm not sure how the other games stack up to RuneScape's F2P model though, since I've no real experience of either.

Wonder what the Golden Scythe is going to be for then ... maybe the Scythe portion of it was backup in case they lost?

Oh, and I thought these were supposed to be announced only on the day of Runefest? Wonder what the mood there will be like as a result.

PS: Eduardo, I know you'll be back to look at this thread ;)

In real life MMO you don't get 99 smithing by making endless bronze daggers.

They'll spin the fact that they came in third, it's what they have marking people for. Still, when you consider how many free game there are out there, third place is pretty darn good.

THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P.

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...

Despite all the drama surrounding this vote, I think I'm actually a little surprised :P

I am a bit surprised they didn't win. With so many f2p accounts on rs...Seems like Jiblix's video had a bigger impact than I thought it would.

It's a shame we placed at all. Not placing would have been something of an embarrassment for them after winning twice in a row, and might have sent a stronger message. That said, they lost to some tank game no one's ever heard of, so there is that. It might not encourage Jagex to try harder at all, but it won't hurt us either.

Based purely on the F2P experience

Positive Things Riot has done for LoL Recently:

-offered champion concepts that were requested by community (female tank, male ranged AD)

-lowered in-game currency prices of numerous previous champs

-introduced a new gamemode

-offered blind draft and then kept it around at the request of the community

Positive Things Wargaming.net has done for WoT Recently:

-lol I dunno, I played the game during beta and the grind for better tanks was annoying then even with free premium status

-tanks are cool

Positive Things Jagex has done for RS Recently:

-???

I like your item: Bronze Scythe.

Hahaha is that the new item now?

I guess the gold rusted into bronze over the past week.

Honestly, it's a meaningless award. Win or not, it doesn't matter. Nothing would have changed if they won, and nothing will change that they lost. If it wasn't for the developers pointing out these awards, people wouldn't know about them. After a few days, everyone will forget about it.

Mmm..."the world's most popular free mmorpg" didn't win a category called "best free to play" in probably the largest open voting ing gaming awards? That makes a statement right there.

(to add to that, gja is a uk based award too)

Maybe at least jagex will stop falsely trying to claim that title.

OH THE HUMANITY. A game winning award over another.

Things must change:-

DAT PIC WHICH IS HERE

But in all seriousness, now that we know they didn't win, and somehow this is a huge victory for Jiblix et all in their anti-Jagex crusade, what do the anti-ers really think is going to happen?
