Good idea?

  1. 1. Is a clan like this a good idea?

Okay, just to reiterate, I just wanna discuss the topic. I got a lot of flack from traditional clan guys on Zybez, specifically mods, and I'm no longer using that site because of this topic. I want to start a clan that does literally everything. My idea of going about this is simple: Have leaders of each are, f2p pvp, p2p pvp, non-combat activities, combat activities, skilling, and CC mod. Underneath each leader, we'll have teams of officers who lead specific things, such as BA, and PKing. Make sense? More like a gaming community, but it's one organized clan with several different corps in game. One more thing, I'm not out to destroy any clans, and I'm NOT seeking the number one spot! I just want a clan where people can do whatever they want, without being restricted to what the clan organizes, because we will organize everything. Like I said, I just wanna discuss this. Please, no trolling or anything. Lastly, this isn't going into recruiting because I am NOT RECRUITING. Just gathering ideas. If you want to be a part of this, pm me. I WILL NOT respond to requests on this thread.

You'll find that most clans do "everything" but they have a primary focus. For a clan like you're proposing, that pays equal attention to every aspect of the game, it would have to be gigantic or it'd be really depressing and difficult to gain momentum of any sort. It's really just not practical.

So possibly, but unlikely. Maybe that's why none of my other clans worked...

Just building on what Kim said. This could work, but only for a large clan. To start something like this, you'd really need to start with a clan that already has say at least 300 people in it, just so that it would have the population to support doing a bit of everything. Once you get past the problem of size though, then the idea of a clan with no real specialty is intriguing.

It also depends on who your members are. For a single clan to support this, not only do you need a lot of people (actually, probably looking at even more than I already put down), but they would need to people who do a lot of different things, and are very active.

An easier way to do something like this would probably be an alliance of clans with different specialties, that hold events for each other. So you get your pking clan, and your skilling clan, and your pvm clan, and you have your members participate in the events of the other clans in addition to your own, and have members from each of the clans form their own councils to create the events, so that each clan is participating in everything at every level.

If you really wanted to do it with just one clan, then you would need to start off with one specialty I think, and cultivate a member base of people with many interests, and then add things on as the size grows to support it.

So, looking at the rebirth of Elite Clans? Intriguing.

EDIT: The only objection I have to that is, it won't actually be a registered clan in the RS system because a member cannot be enrolled in two clans... So all the leadership and what not would need to be managed on a separate website.

use fcs for events and a cc for general chatter perhaps?

In theory it sounds great, i'd love to be in a clan that catered for all sorts of different activities (with consistancy, meaning maintaining a high level of activity within all the areas). But it just wouldn't work, keeping things fair and all sections of the clan active would be near impossible, when one section of the clan falters and people leave as a result - the other sections will suffer due to the constant fluctuation of interests as people come and go. This will continue to happen until the clan is filtered down and it ends up becoming a clan of whichever activity is most popular.

I very much like this idea though.

Back in the day my clan used to run 3 schools of events (skill/fun, combat and pk) 2 of each a week and maintained good turn out to all of them; but this was only when we had several hundred members. And it did work well for the whole time it ran, until rwt updates saw everything fizzle away and member numbers etc drop like most clans at the time.

Having said that however I think the community has changed and while perhaps not impossible it is certainly not as easy as it once was. For one thing clans seem to be moving away from forums more and more, which makes organising events period more of a challenge let alone diverse events. And players seem more exclusionary today than they used to be, eg there's more people whol ONLY pk or ONLY pvm or ONLY skill rather than players who do a bit of everything.

This type of clan would never be the best at anything, only average at everything. I want to be the best. It's human nature.

Multiclanning is the best bet. Pk clans usually don't allow you to be in another pk clan but they usually have nothing against you being in a skilling clan or a bosshunting clan.

I think what really makes a clan work is the passion the people in it have for the clans specialised activity. The two clans I have been in in my RS career are BA Addicts and an Elite CW clan both these clans had their primary focus of their respective mini games and were experts at it. However each clan had a largish number of members and also a highly active membership of high level players (especially the CW clan) so they were also the clans I would use for PvM or w/e. I think the main crux of it is that say if you are a pro BAer why would you join a large clan with average BA players if you could join an elite BA clan. After all its more than likely that in the BA clan there will be people interested in the other activites within the game.
