Armours and weps!

Claremont

Recommended Posts

Hey guys!

I tok some time off from RS. Im looking to get back into slayer and thieving, their hopefully going to be my next two 99's. When I left bandos and a sgs was one of the better slayer (melee) setups. What is it now? Same question again for slayer Mage - if you have a pref of spell that would also be mighty handy information. I would ask about range, but mines already 99 so Im going to mage were possible!

Im not a big fan of degradable armor, like barrows gear.

Anyone have some well informed and educated advice?

Cheers :D!

ib4 Quyneax posts here awesome Slayer set up, from what I remember full bandos, steadfast boots, fire cape, slayer helm (while on task), fury, zerker ring (i) chaotic rapier and Dragon defender is the optimal melee set up.

As for Magic... I think Ganodermic Staff of Armadyl and Storm of Armadyl, with soul wars cape and Arcane Stream Necklace is the best set up, though Ganodermic is degrabable.

Well before Quyneax posts her comprehensive slayer setup, we can start off with this:

DON'T EVER TRAIN WITH A SGS.. best weapon for pretty much all slayer tasks is the chaotic rapier, requiring 80 attack and dungeoneering.. yes it degrades, but it is beyond worth it.

And for mage slaying, a Polypore staff is a great idea.. It has it's own built in spell, so it can be used on any book. It's a very good spell, unless you want to blow a small fortune on Storm of Armadyl.

And if you are curious, monkey knife fighters are now the best way to get 99 thieving.

Working on max and completionist capes.

Claws are the best special weapon as well. You should definitely own a pair. If you are serious about slaying you should also get overloads and turmoil and use them on all tasks.

Actually, sometimes dds and korasi is better to spec with for slayer. Take a look at this thread.

Grimy comes up with a different conclusion at the end though.

I had it saved from when i asked about slayer.

here's the post

The base slayer gear is as follows (alternatives in brackets):

• [For all slayer monsters except those mentioned under other weapons] Chaotic rapier (whip)

• Bandos body + legs (Verac's skirt with either fighter torso or proselyte top)

• [Depending on prayer/accuracy needs] Fire cape/Soul Wars cape/Ardougne cloak 3

• Barrows gloves (your best rfd gloves, at least rune)

• Dragon boots (rune boots)

• Amulet of fury (glory)

• Dragon defender (rune defender)

• Berserker ring (i)/ferocious ring if slaying in Kuradal's Dungeon (berserker ring, warrior ring)

• [Most important] Full slayer helmet.

• [For magic defence on waterfiends/aquanites] Karil's top and elite void skirt (black dragonhide body and chaps)

• [Crush attacks to use on waterfiends] Chaotic maul (Saradomin sword, Zamorakian spear)

• [stab attacks for higher-levelled dragons, when not using rapier] Korasi's sword (Zamorakian spear, leaf-bladed sword)

• Task-specific items such as mirror shields, antifire shields/potions, elemental shields, rock hammers, crystal chimes

• Cannon (optional, up to personal preference)

Slayer setups generally emphasise strength bonus, which increases the average damage of each succesful hit (slayer monsters usually having rather low defence, hitting is not a problem). Secondly, prayer bonus is important to keep the cost of prayer potions down (as you slay with piety on, to increase the speed of your kills. This is cost-effective and highly recommended). As a rule of thumb, +15 prayer bonus or above is good, but don't overdo it (anything above +25 is a waste). Defence and accuracy bonus are usually not fretted over (any defence bonus over 200 will do; if you get hit too often you should be using a protection prayer). Dagganoth, black demon, lesser demon, hellhound, bloodveld and spectre tasks should be cannoned, as it dramatically increases xp rates (although it costs a bit).

Some notes on gear: You'll want a fury and a berserker ring before you get bandos plate, and get that before tassets. You'll want accuracy bonus on higher-levelled dragons; if using stab attacks (which you should) you can use the Ardougne cloak 3 which provides you with +6 stab and +6 prayer bonus. Torso + sw cape and fire cape + proselyte are common cheap top/cape combinations; the former is better.

Some levels to get for slayer (in approximate order but I'm not sure on the summoning):

• 68 summoning - bunyip

• 81 dungeoneering (you need 2 million xp, which takes you to level 80, but allowing some tokens for the scroll of life) - rapier

• 89 herblore (85 with a +4 stew boost) - extreme potions, superantifires

• 95 prayer - turmoil and soul split

• 88 summoning - unicorn

• 96 herblore (91 with a +5 stew boost) - overload

• 99 summoning - steel titan

I'm sure I missed something but this is most of it.

Glacors Drops - 33 shards.

Armadyl Drops - 1 Chestplate. 1 Hilt. 2 gloves . 2 Skirts.

I love how I can make that post and after a while it just automatically appears on threads like this :D. So instead I'll repost my Korasi vs. dragon claws comparison from the thread Paul linked:

Korasi's sword will max over 800 with specials in Kuradal's (source). I'll just assume that was using max strength gear at the time but with fury, fero and defender. That is 110 strength bonus. According to Grimy's melee dps calc, the max hit without fsh boost would be 475, resulting in an overall max of 752. I'd say 841 is clearly higher and that fsh must apply.

Current max gear is virtually the same (only goliaths are new and they are barely/not worth it anyway). That gives us an average of 578 per special with berserker (i) and 554 with fero but before the fero effect.

If we assume the graph for claws is correct for off-task and fsh doesn't apply to them (so it is also correct for on-task apart from the +3 strength from Neitiznot), that means claws average a little under 447 per spec on 0 defence. With fero, they will spec lower of course until you apply the fero effect.

I think you can say, based on this, that Korasi's > claws for a single spec. Claws can spec slightly more often but the difference is too big for that to make claws better I think.

In Kuradal's claws have a distinct advantage but even with an extra 120 per spec claws would not average higher. This is in single combat of course (so it applies to black demons, black dragons, dark beasts, ice strykewyrms and metal dragons).

[end post]

In short, I do not think claws are worth getting for slayer before you have at least full Bandos, fury and imbued rings.
