I was banned from that despite never posting. I don't think I'm comfortable going on a forum where I know the moderation is that poor.

There's no point moving to a six person forum. Since there's almost no scope for new members and forums just aren't designed to be inactive for that amount of time. Finding a specialist interest forum to migrate to and eventually assimilating new members who fit the brief ('that guys') into the tavern consciousness.

I like how you take this so seriously

Though I don't like the connotations of the word 'like'

You were banned because at that time you were doing nothing but flamebaiting on this forum. Of course you were going to be banned when all your interactions with the community the forum was created for at the time consisted of hidden insults, painfully malintentful comments and playing victim.

Mather, I didn't particularly like the anime. I thought it was watchable, but would have enjoyed it a lot more if they had just cut that stupid girl out as her voice was really annoying and made it hard for me to watch. Also, nothing that interesting happens as a result of the time travel.

What did he recommend?

Steins;Gate.

And yeah, Mayuri was kind of annoying, but it's hard to avoid that kind of character, as there are way too many viewers that are turned on by innocent airheads.

And yeah, very little actually happened that had to do with the time machine, it's after all a thriller and it deconstructs what the sci-fi genre usually means.

Not sure what to suggest next in responce to your tastes and that feedback, so I'll just present a rough description of my two favorite animes and let you decide whether or not to give them a go.

To Aru Majutsu no Index - This anime is set "20 minutes in the future"in the scientific capital of the world, Academy City. Here esper powers have become commonplace as a result of treatments that have been developed to ncrease the likelyhood of them emerging and been put into the curriculum. Opposing the science side is religion, many of the christian churches are fighting a behind-the-scenes war with the leadership of the science side using magic that had long ago been created to combat the naturally occurring esper powers.

The MC is Kamijou Touma, a guy with the mysterious power to dispell any supernatural effect with the touch of his right hand and blessed with bad luck. He lives in Academy City, unaware of what's going on behind the scenes, until he one day discovers a nun hanging on the railing of his balcony.

Action, supernatural, comedy, with some harem and shonen speeches (followed by punching the opponent in the face, regardless of gender).

Angel Beats! - This anime takes place in a purgitory for teenagers that are unable to pass on due to being unsatisfied by their lives. The MC wakes up with without any memories and is immediately greeted by a girl with a sniper rifle. She tells him he's dead and asks him to join the SSS in rebel against God.

Drama, dark- and slapstick comedy with some intense action.

Personal opinion: 1# most touching thing I have ever watched, and the only thing I have ever watched that has made me cry like a baby.

Steins;Gate was overrated, because it's 2edgy4u. I also don't like the whole flexible-universal-balance determinism.

The entire ToAru series is banal and pandering, though it does have brief moments where things seem sort of cool.

I love Angel Beats dearly, but in retrospect it wasn't a very 'smart' show, and was so much less than it could've been.

Also why are you recommending Hex anime, when all you ever watch is ROMANCE

We'd be better off recommending him Berserk, I think. Except that it's [bleep]ed up enough that exposing it to Res would probably cause some sort of evil-based singularity.

Steins;Gate isn't really edgy, it's just good if nerdgasm from real technobabble, have a boner for smart chicks or like thrillers. And I asked Res beforehand if he liked technobabble.

I can't say if Index is banal, as I can usually predict what comes next in most animes with considerable accuracy, so often in fact that I consider unpredictable but logical story progression to be a rare plus. But pandering is wrong, in fact it's pretty directly subverted, Index could easily have been ecchi, but it avoids excess fanservice and any action scene contains equal amounts of mono-/dialogue to the amount of action. The only really concerning thing I find about it is how Touma delivers quite a lot of shonen protagonist speeches to his opponents, but that shonen feel quickly disappears when you see the blood splatter as he buries his fist in their face afterwards.

Something being anime doesn't particularly make the story better. As well as being (usually) shoddily done cartoons which is to say that they have a lot of still frames they have a load of the things that just aren't found in western media: fanservice, annoyingly high-voiced japanese schoolgirls, tentacles, over-the-top action that's on par with spoof western action movies (a-team).

I don't think I'll ever truly believe that people actually like anime unless they want to see scantily dressed cartoon women or are just part of the fandom. It's about as appealing as trainspotting to me. And it's certainly not an activity I would encourage, I have no idea why people try to encourage people to watch anime. Though that's just me.

It's a waste of time, like watching films, reading fiction and playing games. That doesn't mean you shouldn't do it, it just means that it's not really a hobby that achieves anything like going to the gym (makes you fitter), or reading history books (broadens your mind).

Mather, your wasting your time with anime. You used to seem quite intelligent with the scientific formulas but I fear you're throwing that to waste. Genius is around 30% being clever, and then 70% actually working. Depending on scales that can increase to around 50/50 to the people that do maths really quickly but don't actually achieve much. And so on, though I can't talk - while I do spend very little time playing games unless I actively start seeking them out, I find I spend a lot of time doing absolutely nothing while waiting in between things to do. I feel I can't read methodically, and when I can't get hold of things quickly enough it slows me down.

You always get children on sites like Reddit saying bullshit like "I learnt more about history from Age of Empires than my history teacher", well whoop dee-[bleep]ing-doo. If you actually sank around 150 hours (like you had with AOE) into actually reading history books and studying manuscripts you would be even more far ahead. Arguing that anime, books and videogames are 'passive learning' is the most stupid argument in existence. The problem is that it doesn't achieve anything.

Actually, genius is 0% hard working, 100% innate understanding. A genius isn't one that knows a lot or achieves a lot, it's someone with a heightened innate ability to understand. In fact the majority of geniuses will never work hard or achieve much, because laziness and indifference is genius' faithful companion.

And yeah, anime sucks for passive learning. Someone who doesn't already understand quantum physics to a moderate degree won't remember any of the technobabble from Steins;Gate for more than 10 seconds, it's there to offer gratification for us that do understand it, so that we can feel superior for doing so, and it can give us ideas we want to confirm, so as to make us take up active learning.

I meant Genius as to say achieving great things, like Edison meant (or achieving anything at all)- I just switched the values around since I don't agree with them. I don't really agree with calling anybody who doesn't achieve anything a genius.

There are so many people on the internet who like to boast their above average intelligence despite being an underachiever.

Isn't this like when you said that you said that having a girlfriend, trying to pursue one is really useful because it motivates you to do well? It's just a misguided sense of priorities, not something that's actually helpful.

System apart from DnD < Lol

It would work if you/others didn't start off a game by finding out the most broken build possible.

It's funny because we already scaled back tremendously. I am still pretty sure that your problem is with both high-level and high-power games.

Probably to a degree. Yesterday on /tg/ there was a discussion about a Persistent World D&D game which some guy messed up - and it was mainly centered around D&D recognising an imbalance in levels. a level 8 cannot kill a level 16, when really they should be able to. But in D&D, it's as if high-level D&D players have an ability on par with the necromonger leader in Chronicles of Riddck, and that if anybody sneaks up on them or attempts to stab them in the back it either does nothing because they phase away or they can't detect it. GURPs and SW handle it better because instead of increasing HP, they add more talents and skills while the people remain human.

I don't particularly like high power games, but D&D requires you to suspend your reality because in the D&D universe you're not supposed to be high power but you just are.

Also, how well you do is determined by which build you get off of min-max boards and stick your own name on. Since D&D doesn't exactly promote storytelling.

I'm interested in playing this. It seems rather fun, and while still being fantasy it uses the superior system of 40k. Overall 40k is better, it's just that psykers are consistently better until they're not and die.

Can we ask to be moved back to our normal place?

Edison wasn't a genius, he was a jackass.

Now TESLA on the other hand...

Nope, he was a genius. He was just a massive dick to Tesla which is why some people don't like him.

Tesla died poor because of his 'genius'

He died poor because Edison stole his patents and went back on a promise to pay him for his work.

Also other things, but that was the one most directly attributable to Edison, thus serving my argument.

The only genius Edison had was as a businessmann, no other individual or institution has held back science that much since the church back in the dark ages. He wasn't just a dick, he deliberately held it back because he'd lose profit from it.

I think Edison invented AC, or at least invented something by himself.

Church never held back science. In fact the catholic church funded science and such.

Dark ages were as a result of Rome falling.

No, Edison monopolised DC and discredited AC so as to ensure he would retain the monopoly. Tesla invented AC and proved it to be much more efficient for commercial use, Edison responded by publishing a video of an elephant being executed using AC. Also back when Tesla worked for General Electrics, he developed a brushless AC motor, Edison discarded it simply because it didn't use DC.

And yes, the church held back science, back when witch hunts were commonplace, the targets were often people who had accomplished something in science. If it didn't, the group Illuminati would've never existed.

The dark ages were due to a combination of the fall of Rome, the rise of the church and the church's suppression of general historical/medical/technological/scientific knowledge. Nothing keeps the serfs in line like keeping them stupid and supersitious.

A lot of scientific progress was made in the Dark Ages... Not progressive progress per say, but it was significant nonetheless.

Fair enough, but in general the populace was kept intentionally in the dark (if you'll pardon the pun :P).
