Just finished seeing your video, albeit needing to reload once via YouTube, switching to 480p, brightening up the video, and having to go fullscreen as well. Please make sure to provide a link directly to the video on YouTube in the future, alongside the displayed video, so people don't have to go through multiple hoops to view the video properly the first time. Thanks, in advance, for doing so. ;)

For everyone else, here's the link that I was talking about, so you don't have to go through the same hoops that this one did:

Now, regarding the topic of your video, if Jagex wishes to restore their players' faith in them, they need to temporarily remove any content currently causing the FPS to crash. However, they only need to do that for the time it takes to render that content to no longer cause the lag that is being seen all over the place. :ugeek:

Amongst things is the Dominion Tower, which has even been causing FPS crashing on F2P players' systems since its' initial release. Worse, it caused people to not be able to log in during the middle of the Halloween 2011 event due to connection instabilities. (Those aren't totally fixed yet, from what I understand.) The recent addition of Sunfreet made it worse until the update following that one, because something in the Sunfreet update caused mouse control issues. There are probably an additional list of updates that really need to be pulled until fixed, but the Dominion Tower and all associated updates are the biggest one to come to mind at the moment.

There's probably more to be said, but this one can't think of any of it right now. Maybe seeing additional replies on this thread will cause the recall of it. :-k

(p.s.: What was the music you used in that video?)

I'd just like to start out saying that your video is very thought-provoking and well put together. So, great job on that.

Instead of Jagex trying to improve the content and gameplay' date=' we see nothing but increased membership fees and these ridiculous incentives to subscribe, which could even be called as low as petty bribes.

Jagex is milking Runescape for all the money they can get in its final, dying days.[/quote']

I'm not saying I necessarily agree or disagree with those two statements, but I think they are gross exaggerations that do not show the entire picture. The opinion of what is an "improvement" to content and gameplay can differ greatly between who it is that you ask. And furthermore, claiming that Jagex is not providing any quality updates is a bold, all-inclusive statement. And generally, all-inclusive statements are not as true due to their lack of likelihood.

Saying "we see nothing but increased membership fees and... incentives to subscribe" isn't really fair because that is not all Jagex is doing. It's again downplaying everything else that they do and send updates into the game for. Even if you disagree with certain practices of theirs, giving a blanket disapproval of everything they do based on a few aspects is just flat out unfair. When Jagex reviews these sorts of things, I think that's how they see it. If someone tells you everything you're doing is wrong, you're likely to automatically tune them out. However, if you offer a compliment or two that is deserved, they the receiving party is much more receptive of your thoughts.

Calling them petty bribes is so emotionally load that is loses any denotative meanings. Marketing is a scary subject for a lot of people to think about because they're afraid of feeling like they're being controlled. But in essence, marketing is all around us controlling things we never think about.

As for Runescape dying, all good things must come to an end. Maybe it'll be tomorrow, but it's also not impossible that it's in 40 years from now. The future is not for certain, and acting as if its imminent is only a scare tactic to persuade others into your side of the party. Yes, Runescape will end someday. But it's hardly a viable argument for the near and significant future.

I disliked the removal of gnomecopters, I liked the lack of advertising of members in f2p, I do not support the removal of f2p hiscores. However, I also recognize Jagex is a profit-seeking business and enticing players to become members is a necessary part of their relations to players. I think it's unfair to bombard players with direct NEEDS to become members such as with the squeal of fortune, and I definitely support that being altered. But don't forget that policies do change - we want them to change with the times - so that explains why what MMG said before is obviously no longer applicable in the current game.

I will always advocate for a fairer and less manipulative manner of advertising membership, but in the meantime I'm not going to claim that Runescape is dying and that everything Jagex does is related to that. There's so much more to the picture, and this is only a part of that.

The title "MembershipScape", plays a big part in it.

Despite being P2P myself, I made the video from a F2P player's point of view.

I know P2P has had some great updates - fight kiln, dominion tower, etc. so it doesn't hugely impact us.

But everyone starts out in F2P, and I wanted to say something on the free community's behalf as well.

Years ago, people would actually play in F2P because it was a good game - look at F2P today, it's basically dead.

I blame Jagex getting bought out by investors, who care more about making profit than actual gameplay.

Say I was a new F2P player, I'd probably quit after less than a week.

The F2P game is filled with these incentives to subscribe, and the quality of free gameplay is diminshing.

I'd think "Ok the free game sucks and Jagex are basically begging us to buy membership... this game is dead."

My point is, if they want to make more money, they should start making the free game good again.

I was F2P for 2 years before I subscribed, because it was actually fun and enjoyable.

And there are many different ways to encourage subscriptions rather than shoving it in [f2p players]' faces,

I think it was last year they offered a "free trial" of P2P for a week during summer or something... that was a brilliant idea.

All you had to do was double-click on the embedded player to go to the youtube page...And you can adjust resolution from the embedded player, as well as go full screen.

Three problems with this, which this one encountered... -.-

  1. First, double-clicking to transfer tries to make the video pick up from right where a person triggers the transfer to youtube. This forces a person to then have to drag the slider all the way back to the left to get a proper stream. Due to the internet, pausing to wait is automatically something that has to be done anyway, so streaming from the video start works out best as it doesn't leave the player trying to connect the data together.

  2. Second, viewing quality/resolution has to be readjusted when transferring. It doesn't hold the setting while jumping across.

  3. Third and final, there is no Full Screen button on the YouTube player on Tip.It... The version of the player that is appearing doesn't have a Full Screen button on it!

These are why this one was annoyed by not having a link directly to the YouTube page. This one had to stream the video twice just to get one proper viewing, due specifically to these issues. <_<

If you had just gone straight to the Youtube page first, you wouldn't have had any of these issues.

Who can watch anything on these embedded players, anyway?

And seriously, dragging the slider to all the way back to the left? Poor you.

haha so dramatic for a video complaining about a video game you don't even pay for

The person who made this video is a paying member.

Exactly. And passionate about the game too unlike many of the "jagex haters" that regularly post here. I even met him at RuneFest but i doubt he remembers me :P

I'm not normally into these kinds of videos, but I enjoyed yours quite a bit. Thanks for sharing :) You did bring up some really good points. I understand that Jagex is a business and they do have to turn out a profit if they're going to continue to exist. I can honestly understand channelling most new updates towards P2P members. You pay - you get more benefits. It makes sense. What I will never understand is TAKING AWAY features that F2P always had in the past (such as high scores). That's just a very low move.

This one forgot to remember mentioning that in their own post, especially since it caused their exit from playing RS in any large amount since November of Last Year. Good catch, Tripsis! :shades:
