Going to buy 75 Spins just for the heck of it, see what the outcome is.

I'll post what i get for anyone that cares.

It's been done a thousand times already, you're just giving Jagex more profit as a reward for this crappy idea of theirs. Don't do it.

I really wonder how this is legal.

Is this RWT? Definitely

Is this gambling? Definitely

Is this gambling in the legal sense? That depends on whether the courts give virtual items(which may or may not be your property - this isn't quite sure either) a value. If there is a value in them, then it would be gambling in the legal sense, as far as I can see (No law student or anything though). It seems like they're walking fine line...but you probably wouldn't win a case against them.

[/hide]

Going into these two posts, according to Dutch law online gambling is illegal. Gambling for minors is also illegal. The law refers to gambling as games of chance, contests, etc. Basically any kind of chance game, so wheels of fortune would fit that description too. Jagex does not have a licence for this (I seriously doubt my government allowing that), and most of the game's players are minors.

Another thing I'm wondering...which country's laws apply? British ones because Jagex is a british company? The laws of the country the servers is in(This is what I'd personally guess)? Or the country the player is in?

If it was the last, then lol it would sure as be illegal in some countries. With the other two options it's not quite as clear...would have to know the laws to be able to judge that...

I am no expert on law, but as far as I know there is a very big grey area as far as foreign internet sites/games are concerned. Either way, if it is illegal in the UK it shouldn't be too hard to stop Jagex in court... Costs are another story though.

Online gambling is legal in the UK, but Google tells me you need to purchase a license to develop the software, and presumably it's subject to certain taxes. I'm not much of a lawyer though, I don't know anything past that.

Just a question:

I get 2 spins daily because I am a member. If I buy more spins do I just get to use them one time? or do they keep coming back daily? So if I bought the 10 dollar one I would have 2 spins from member + 25 spins daily?

It's a one time purchase. You're just buying the spins you're paying for to use them one time. They do not keep showing up every day. You use them and then they're gone forever until you buy more.

Ummm....at Runefest, Jagex said they wouldn't be introducing an in-game casino because it would be a "legal nightmare" due to gambling laws...

Excuse me, but isn't this gambling? A lot more than an in-game casino even would be, considering that GP only have real world value if you break the rules....whereas here there's no doubt about the real world value...?

It is only gambling if the buyer can win real money or membership.

(the mystic tattoo lifetime membership was a one time promotion)

I am not sure abut the membership, but as soon as Jagex makes it possible to sell things won from the wheel for real money (without breaking their rules) it is gambling.

It will then be taxed and bound to hundreds of rules.

Me and the wise old man go way back.... he was a foolish boy back then.

My crystal armour idea.

*sigh*

As long as the wheel has a chance of winning something that is greater than the value the player payed to play in the first place, and a chance that they'll win something of significantly less value than the player payed, that constitutes gambling since there is an inherent risk of loss; not total loss, but loss nonetheless. Honestly what bugs me more than it probably should is this microtransaction shit is that it's now built into the damn UI in the game.

Wouldn't have mind them being a drop (as a bonus to the normal drop), alternate rewards from minigames (that the player can choose to have) or randomly getting some from skilling like strange rocks

But paying money to gamble in a MMO? Oh dear what have you done Jagex...

You mean the one, where they brought the Wild back after 4 years? I was thinking of a removal after 1 week (or so) of releasing the update.

Yeah, they've not really done that because of the criticism. In terms of a full reversal of a bigger update(more than patch notes) I can't think of anything.

Oh hahahaha. I almost considered coming back to RS just to max DG and hang with some real life friends. Not anymore.

If they made RS P2P free, but with micro, I'd be ok. Micro+Sub? GTFO.

It depends on were the law was broken. EG if Jagex broke an American law, it would be a U.S court. If Jagex was suing an american company, it would be in US court as well.

Other thing I can think of is the token requirements for DG items, but that was a "we already planned this, but thanks for the feedback."

And the reduction of spirit shards from 50 gp to 25 gp, but once again that's just messing with the numbers not a full reversal.

I think they could "mess with the numbers" by making "paid spins" unable to give xp lamps. In turn, perhaps they'd increase the chance of Wheel specific items, such as tattoos, hats, horns etc.

Oh Jagex, you're so funny, you really got me goo- wait a minute. This is the 2nd, not the 1st.

....What the hell? This is actually a thing that happened?

So not only did they improve the little brat that had no real place in the game besides "HEY GUISE WIN FREE SHIT OVER HERE AND SUB FOR WINNING MORE FREE SHIT", but they made it so you can pay even more to spin more?

I'll... I'll be right back, I need a moment. And then I'm going to go watch this shitstorm over on the RSOF.
