Your Runescape Inspiration/Motivation

Tykras

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone, in light of all the recent updates such as the buyable SOF spins, the effigy nerf etc. that have lead to a huge loss of motivation for a fair amount of the Runescape Community, I'm wondering what initially motivated you all to start playing, who has inspired you, and what keeps you playing today. I'm hoping discussing this can bring back some optimism and happiness to the Runescape community. My personal motivation comes from my goals such as the Trimmed Completionist Cape and the interactive community, and I'm interested in hearing what yours are. Feel free to discuss your opinions and thoughts here. :)

Hello Tykras :P I see that you are a new user here, and seeing that getting the Trimmed Comp is your goal, I'd recommend you to make a Blog (in BlogScape), where you can let us know about your progress. I'd look forward to that :P

Now to the main point... Getting Maxed Total was a dream for a long time. I am currently 2341 (not sure, lol). The recent updates make Maxing Out in general easier, but leaving the Game now, without being maxed, is (In my case) like standing up before finishing taking a dump completely.

P.S. After some research I found out that you've already made a thread about your TComp progress on BlogScape.

A friend of mine got me into playing and for a while I pretty much just tried out stuff he recommended to me. A while after that, I kept playing mostly for quests.

Now that I have my quest cape, pretty much the only thing keeping me playing is the time I spend in Team Penguin. I do some sort of training skills, but really not much, as I can't stand grinding.

It's always been the quests for me. I only went member when I thought I was ready to take on Legends' and then went and got around 230 qp in the first member month. Then I found achievments to be the next thing. And probably after that I think completionist cape. I generally like to 'complete' things, but I'm really not into grinding, so I don't know how it'll go...

My sons got me interested in playing. Spending time playing with them, and discussing the game during car rides, has given us an additional activity to have fun with together.

Updating my blog is a big motivator. I find that keeping a log of my adventures helps me to organize my playing time. Reading other players' blogs has given me various ideas, and it is interesting to see players' experiences at all different stages of their playing time-line.

I've played for only about nine months, so many of the frustrations for long-time players regarding updates and changes have not been a source of frustration for me. The game is still fun to play.

First time I played RS was with a friend from primary school, back in like, late 01 or early 02. [Very] early RSC. I had played on and off over several accounts, and had given up "for good" at the end of 2004 to play the IRL MMO and work on getting into uni. Started playing again [current account] in 2007 when my relationship started to go to shit, using it as a distraction/vent. Now I play because, well, I'm an addict

Motivators? I dunno. I have people in have become good friends with, it's also nice to notch off goals...and keeps me out of the big bad world. I turned some really expensive and dangerous addiction into a relatively safe one.

Mostly spawned out of bad :>

Started playing back in 2005 when my friends told me about the game. Nowadays I mostly play on my DIY (no interaction with other players like trading) account, which is really fun to play with :) Absolutely everything feels like an achievement and I don't really need to care about other players.

Quests and story-related content are a good motivation for me as I really like all Jagex' quests (with a few exceptions of course). :)

But my biggest motivation is the friends chat I'm in.

I started playing ages ago, when a friend's son was too tiny to understand english, and asked for my help doing a quest. He stopped playing after a while, but I was hooked  After I had done all free quests, I got p2p.

If I don't like some new content, I'll just stick to the stuff I do like, hoping they won't take that away. Weirdest thing is, whenever I take a break (longest break was about 2 years long) the thing I most miss about RS is the actual RS world and its atmosphere. I try very hard not to get bored again, since coming back after such a long break meant a lot of things had changed, and I had also forgotten some of the old things. And most friends had stopped playing while I was gone...

Also a nice, friendly friends chat keeps me entertained whenever I don't feel very motivated.

I mostly played the game for the quests before, but now that I've had a quest cape for a while and Jagex hasn't released to many quests recently so I started bossing a lot and farming to get better gear and got up to around a 830m bank but I staked that away just 2 days ago and now I pretty much play to pk.

I haven't had any motivation to play recently; I only pop on for dailies now!

My initial motivation was for questing but I finished them all ages ago and finish most quests on the day of release. Skilling is just getting bothersome now for me so I'm waiting till they introduce something that is actually fun!

I have no motivation whatsoever to play this game. I still play it because it's a past time.

I think I've come to the point where I've stopped taking this game seriously and just considered it a semi regular hobby. -shrug-

I originally started playing when school friends were like "der der play dis gaem called r00nscape" and so I did.

I guess what really motivated me to play was tip.it and the community around it. I used to read the blogs and think "wow, this guy is p cool - look at all those achievements!" People like Benisfab (Errr ok) and I had a deal to name a few. Some users know I am hopeless and can never finish what I start :P. I just kept playing and took breaks when I was bored. About a year ago I had finished school and was waiting to go to uni (however did not due to certain circumstances) where I had lots of free time and since January 2011 had actually started playing properly and striving towards acheiving goals.

Friends are the main reason why I play now though - I enjoy the dynamic between groups which make the game interesting, although sometimes certain plays just tug on your balls and you don't want to deal with such stuff. My original motivation - wanting to acheive something that others have not acheived.

As I feel I am closing in on End-Game I probably am enjoying this game alot more. As the grind just becomes the grind and not a big deal. Wouldn't mind the time back but I would have wasted it doing something else ^^

I want to get 99 agility, and I want to see the elven questline concluded, before RS finally collapses. Also, at the very end of my career I'll blow away my bank on something fun but wasteful such as attempting to PK. I love quests, and though I want to see all the questlines complete, I'm especially interested in MEP3. Every quest in that line was such a masterpiece, one would hardly believe that it was made by the same company that introduced the SoF and RWT with it. (Well, in a sense, it's not the same company, with the Gowers gone.) And even nowadays, Jagex can do good enough quests.

Lmao Zaaps that story made me mad, specially the mugger part.

What keeps me motivated? Well right, the friends I've met in game, the clan I joined months ago because I wanted to try out the clan community, and of course, my goal of getting Trimmed Comp as you already know :P

I used to have a motivation....then jagex slowly destroyed it. I have accepted it. The old jagex (the one where paul personally replied to my emails long ago...The one that cared about justice and egalitarianism..) is never coming back.

So now, my motivation of being active around rs communities is purely to expose the new jagex as the hypocritic, greedy, treacherous, uncaring and just evil monster they have turned into under their investor overlords and get people to stop funding this tainted game.

Friends was what kept me coming back, but overall I'd have to say my motivation was to reach the point that I could finally quit. The unfortunate part of that logic was that as I approached finishing my goals I would always come up with a reason to create new goals (e.g. nothing else to do, stress from school, friends, etc.). It often felt like an infinite loop until it was finally broken when the strongest chain, my friends, suddenly decided to quit last summer.
