Been lots of posts recently about the recent changes to F2P and our decision on the matter, so thought I might address them while I have a chance.

 

First off, the Converted Top 250 F2P Skill Total & Experience Lists have been updated to reflect the new list changes. Hopefully there are no errors on any of the lists, but as I'm sure you can imagine, this was one of the biggest updates ever. If you spot an error that we have not noticed, bring it to our attention and we will of course fix it.

 

As well, I have added Fluhminator to the 200M List, and the Achievements page for Runecrafting.

 

@ Kaida23, Krazyck, LordAdib, Isthatok - Thank you. It was not an easy decision to make, but hopefully it is for the best. Indeed, we will have to see how this all plays out in the long run.

 

@ Doolodes - You can update as often or rarely as you want :P It is always nice to see your progress, though :)

 

@ Fluhminator - A BIG congratulations. A very epic achievement, and one that must have taken an insane amount of work and dedication. Congrats :D

 

@ Fuko - Thank you very much for bringing this to our attention, we will fix it in the next update.

 

@ Animorph - Always nice to see another Canadian Pure F2per, there sure does seem to be quite a few of us! We'll add it in during the next update.

Because of the fact that all of the F2P highscores out there might soon be running different ways (since the inclusion of mem stats up to level 5, not sure how all the other highscores will adapt) I decided to do a massive, gigantic, ridiculously large update using the information I have access to. I have updated all of the entries from the TFS Highscores, and also the Top F2P Skiller List. When there was no change, I left the name & date untouched. As well, for those who were already on the Lists, but there was a discrepency (Lower Total level but Higher total EXP, or opposite) I left untouched.

 

Took a serious amount of time, so just as before, I wouldn't expect I will do such a thing again for another 6 months, even if the different highscores remain compatible. The requirements for all of the lists got raised up quite a bit, which is always a good thing

 

Next list update will be in 1 weeks time, and probably will not be quite so big :P

You could still potentially keep a number of tiers though, in case there are a bunch of 200m's in that skill, even if it would exceed a total of 10 people.

It's something I'd be open to, we simply have them organized like that because that is how we inherited them. I've been meaning to re-do the rankings page soon as well anyways, probably will be my next big project.

 

The only problem being that the people who have achieved 200m post-highscores, we don't really know the dates they were gotten (for the most part), and therefore don't really know which rank would below to whom.

 

As well, I know a lot of people like the idea of a top 10, not a top 16 or whatever. It's something we'll need to think about and discuss for sure. If anyone else has any ideas on how you think we should do it, please share :)

Really appreciate the effort you've done for this, Slaya. I'm glad you were the one to step up!

 

I may have an idea for the list, although it may be controversial to some. One thing that has always come to my mind is that the active list has been what I would consider a misrepresentation of the actual top 250 f2p list. Clearly there are well over 250 purely F2P players above 1012 total. In fact, we were able to identify 1000 of these players above 1311 in the Archives on pages 73-79 over a year ago. Although many of these players may not necessarily be active anymore, there are still a great deal of them who are, and have never heard of this list. At the list's current state, I feel it would be highly inaccurate to exclude these players; to put it harshly, it's like pretending they never existed.

 

My proposal is that the active list be truncated down to 100 players, which would bring the requirement up to 1400 (at rank 100). The converted list can remain at 250 players if you want, since its minimum requirement is already very high (1467 at rank 250), but currently it is a testament to how inaccurate the active list is. This proposed change may be demotivational for some, but the truth is that many, if not all, ranks (and even mine) are extremely generous estimations of the players' actual rank, and that the #250 player now is really about #3000 in reality. I don't think denial, or even plain acknowledgement of that fact is a solution.

 

One of the reasons why these players (let's say, below 1200 total) don't come here to join the list may be the fact that many of them are ignorant to the possibility that they may even be considered as a top free player. I myself was unaware of this list until I reached about 1280 total (this was before dungeoneering), and the minimum requirement for the list was coincidentally 1311 at the time. At the time I began to associate with others around my level who aspired to be on the list, and that's really the only way I came to know about the list. At this point, there were two things that ultimately led to my passion to enter the list: (1) Enough dedication and time spent on pure F2P to acknowledge the fact that I could be amongst the top players, and (2) there were people at my level who knew about the list and directed me towards it. Without these two things, I would not have known about the list. Even if 1k totals qualified, many of them are not dedicated enough nor consider their accomplishments significant. Also, few if any of their peers would know about the list and therefore they would not know of this list.

 

Players tend to look for incentives before raising their skills further. As free players, that is especially true since there is not much else we can gain off leveling our skills this way. I'm not saying this is true for everyone, but it's true for many. Those who know about the list are influenced by the two factors I mentioned are more likely to be these people. I understand that with the removal of F2P highscores over a year ago the list has just become less and less accurate (even my rank should be markedly lower), but perhaps it's time to minimize these losses and cap at a more competitive level, and thus a somewhat better representation of the top F2P community.

 

Let me know what you guys think. I know there are a lot of players between the 1000 and 1400 total range around here so I'm sorry if I offended you guys in any way. My post is by no means meant to hurt or scare you guys away. You are all welcome to be a part of the community, but my opinion is that the list should be a better representation of reality, and the only way to do that right now is to truncate it.

Very impressive, firehawk. I have a little more than 160m total xp, but out of 10 years, i had two years of membership and played the f2p for 6 years. The member's quests that give a lot of multiple skill xp really is faster than training skills individually.

Not quite as big of an update as the last few, but meh :P Thought I would add that we have added a nationality column to the Converted Top 250 Lists. We weren't sure whether or not to do this for the longest time, but after a steady stream of positive feedback concerning the Nationalities option, we decided it was time. We'll be slowly filling it in, bit by bit. If anyone knows the nationality of players we do not have listed on any of our other lists (Actives and the NHOR list) feel free to post here so we can add them in :)

 

And now to the big news.... I would like to announce that Medieval Kid has been promoted to Co-Maintainer of the 250 Lists. Medi has been a huge help to me ever since I started this project, and definitely has contributed more to this project then anyone else besides myself. I will still remain your primary Maintainer, handling the updates and answering the majority of the questions, but if I'm ever indisposed or unable to (as has happened on occasion) he will be there to make sure everything gets done on time. As well, he will be actively assisting with some of the other features of the Purefreetoplay site as well, besides the Lists, of course.

 

A big thanks for everything you have already done, and a big congratulations on the new position Medi, definitely well deserved.

 

@ Arceus - We have finally decided what we'll be doing to fix up the rankings a bit, and it should come into effect in the next update after this one, if everything remains on-schedule.

 

@ Water Tablet - Thank you for bringing this to our attention. He's been marked on the Offence List for now. We've never actually had a case like this, so we're not entirely sure what our stance is going to be. Hopefully we'll have decided by next update, and will let you and everyone else know what our decision is then.
