Beating bots at their own game.

You see them all around you, always slient, yet always persisent.

Bots.

They are the slimy roaches of Runescape that bring the prices of the finest items down, block you when you need that one more kill to finish a slayer task, take your box and your red chin, and overall make your experience a living hell.

But what if, WHAT IF,you got the chance, seized it, and laughed in the face of the bot as you gobble up that rare drop?

That is what I am making this rant on.

Post on here, how, under heavy bot pressure and one stolen item after another, grabbed your chance by the horns and was smiled upon by Lady Luck

I will begin this with a story of my own that inspired me to make this.

I was at Taverly Dungeon, doing a slayer task of 177 Black Demons. Now, you all know Taverly Dungeon Black Demons, and how bots plug the area like a hairball in your sink.

I had the last laugh however, when I slew one of the demons and got the rare drop of 150 Rune arrows.

My cannon/korasi has shined bright this day, during a time of dark storms.

I cordially invite you to share your own stories.

Seems more like this should be in blogscape than rants.

Before the Nuke last October, there was much discussion of how to kill and loot bots. Now that they're starting to come back, I'm not surprised people are doing it again.

THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P.

So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...

I think I'm just confused about this entire post...

When at Blue Dragons at Heroe's Guild.

The bots there. If you steal their kills a few times in a row, they start going to the middle of the pen between each of your kills.

Makes killstealing much easier.

Also, once, I was at the very same Blue Dragon spot, when some higher level person was most obviously botting (the usual bot behaviour, kept trying to attack the dragon while I was quite obviously attacking it.)

Eventually, she took actual control of the account and started [bleep]ing. She puts up her cannon, I go get mine.

She placed her cannon in the middle, while mine was one spot to the right.

Eventually, she took her cannon down, so I moved mine to wheverer her cannon was.

Then my cannon would keep getting me kills, while she struggled, moving her cannon over and over to try and get more kills.

(And eventually, her rapier ran out of charges, LOL)

Did you know you can steal hunter bots traps?

If you see them walking to a spot to set up a trap, try lighting a fire there at the same time. If your fire is lit before trap is set, I'll cause them to drop the trap (similar to trying to light a fire when then trap appear first).

Pick it up when it appears.

Steal enough traps and you'll break the bot.

Any script writer can fix that in <50 lines of code. Just set up a method to handle running out of traps and a path to bank and path back to hunting area. Any 12 year old can (and in all likelihood probably does) write these already.

Or better yet you can have it pick up the trap on the ground, since it would show up as an item ID on the ground. Its easy to specify the condition where it does so to keep the script efficient. In this case you would just write a method that handles if an object appears under your trap location while placing it, if the trap ID shows up on the ground then pick it up.

99% of these bot breaks are not hard to fix, they only exist because children write the scripts that 90% of botters are using.

Also at OP, the script writer for the monster killer you wrote about purposely chose not to have it pick up rare drops. You didn't own anyone, the botter doesn't care and neither does the script writer.
