Med School apps opening soon

So medical school applications open on June 5th, and I have pretty much everything in order. Is any one here also applying for medical school? My GPA and MCAT are average to above average and I have a lot of volunteer and shadowing experience so im a little optimistic about my chances. My top choice is the medical in my home state which is ranked pretty well in primary care. I was wondering how you guys choose which medical schools to apply to? Cause your chances drops significantly as an out of state applicant.

I applied and got into a few med schools two years ago. Applying early is the right way to go about it and makes a huge difference. Apply early and apply broadly too. For out of state schools that you have the grades for, apply to those that have the largest class sizes and accept the highest out of state percentages. Then once you get (hopefully) one acceptance, you can start worrying about which school fits with you the best.

This it slighty off-topic here but I'm going to a UK med school this September and I'm kind of curious how our apps differ from yours.

I apply off my GCSE's and AS's needing pretty much the top grades in everything. I also have to sit a test called the UKCAT which is a Clinical Aptitude Test (much like a beefed up iQ test). On top of this most applicants are expected to have a large amount of volunteer experience and as much work experience as they can manage. Then almost all medical schools hold interviews and finally give you an offer dependent on your A-levels (your final school exams) - usually requiring 80%+ in all exams. So in case you were interested :)

The process is pretty similar here, although im not sure what GCSE and AS are. The test we have to take here in the states is the MCAT and the application process is done through the American medical college applicaiton services (AMCAS) and most is not all medical school require you to apply through AMCAS. Volunteer experience and work experience is not require but im sure it help your application alot.

Ah right well good luck :) I'm thinking of doing my 6 week elective in the states during my final year and then even possibly even taking the $5000 exam to be declared fit for practice in the US.

Well, a friend of mine just got into the Washington University Medical School. I heard it's like number 6 in the country, so I guess it's pretty good?

That's all I've got.
