Chaos Tunnel Waterfiends

Deletion

Recommended Posts

Hi,

So, I've finally decided to raise my defence from 75 to 85 and I've decided to do it using the Chaos Tunnel Waterfiends (unless somebody has a better idea?) to collect some of the charms I need to go from 96 to 99 Summoning. I've been doing it the following way:

-Full melee void (deflector)

-Fury

-Berserker (i)

-Goliath Gloves

-Soulwars Cape

-Dragon Boots

What I've been doing is taking an hours worth of Overloads and Renewals + 2 Iron Titan pouches (One always seems to die after ~35-40 minutes) + scrolls and enough Prayer potions to last the hour while SS + Turmoiling the whole time. Currently this has been getting me around 120k Defence xp/hr and 150-175 Crimson charms.

So what I want to know is, is there anything I can do to speed this up? I mean it seems like I'm getting a reasonable rate but this was on my part just a guess at a good method to get both defence and summoning experience. I also guessed this method of killing the Waterfiends. So firstly, is this a good method for gathering charms + getting defence experience? and secondly, if this is a good method is there anything I can do to increase my xp/hr?

Thanks for your time and advice :)

Yes, it is an excellent method for defence xp + charms, probably the best.

A big upgrade to your kph should be a better cape, specifically a fire cape or Tokhaar-Kal.

If you like you can also kill them in not-void using a helmet of Neitiznot to increase the number of scrolls you can use per hour. You'd have a slightly lower max hit, slightly higher accuracy and twice as many scrolls. When you're using helmet scrolls, it's helpful to have as many waterfiends on you as you can handle.

Using a Firecape would shorten my trips (though if I had to guess only 10 minutes max) and leave me less room for emergency brews. But I will give it a go next time I try.

I was thinking about trying what you suggested as well, but Void seemed like a good option because of it's offensive abilities, prayer and magic defence. Can you suggest a good body + legs instead of void if I did use non-void gear? Would Bandos be viable even though I would be at mercy of their magic attacks, or should I use Karil Top + Elite Bottom and just have a lower Strength bonus?

Bandos is viable but perhaps not the best (certainly not the easiest to use), if you can flash deflect magic and soul split it'd probably work out.

Max hits in max gear would be:

187 effective strength in void, 170 in Bandos

176 effective attack vs. 160 effective attack

41 vs. 56 strength bonus - goliaths would add 82 invisibly, in theory

29 vs. 52 attack bonus - +82 again

Max hits of 551 vs. 541.

Max attack rolls of 481 vs. 495.

So yeah, slight difference, at most 2% but likely less as waterfiends have some crush defence. Also this math assumes a kiln cape, without it the max hit difference would be slightly smaller (2 smaller).

One titan scroll adds two titan attacks, two titan attacks equals, say, half a glove hit? I'm pretty sure helmet scrolls add 100/hr, which is the equivalent of 50 glove hits, about 1/30th of the maximum number of hits per hour.

From what I can gather from my own experience and Quyneax: Karil + a defender would have lower DPS (from you only) than Void (deflector) but allow the use of iron titan scrolls stored in the Helmet of Neitiznot which would increase the xp as well as the number of kills per hour from the Iron Titan equalling ~2 minutes worth of Goliath attack. So it depends if Elite Void gains you 2 minutes over Karil, which I don't know.

Ideally, from what I can see, if your APM is high enough that you can losslessly flash SS while having deflect magic on then to maximise kills/hr: Max Str > Karil > Elite Void (all assuming Iron Titan). So it depends on whether you can be bothered dealing with the hassle of max strength gear over Karil to maximise kills & xp per hour. I may have a look to see if I can get a kills/hr difference between Karil and Elite Void when I get home.

It should be noted that the lower your not-void-equipment-slot strength bonus (due to not having imbued rings, tokhaar cape, fury etc.), the worse void becomes, because it's a percentage. If you had 0 strength bonus, the entire void set would be worse than an amulet of strength.

The void bonus is applied before strength bonus, so what you said is slightly misleading (you implied that the strength bonus gets multiplied by 1.1).

Nope, you're not taking it literal enough :P. It's a percent boost, which means it gets better as you have more strength bonus. Regardless of what or how it boosts.
