Post in the "I've been hacked!" thread on the Account help sub-forum on the Runescape forum. That will give Jagex the chance to remove anything the hacker has placed on the account like extra info etc.

They never have given back items either, because that will cause absolute mayhem on the economy, so they stay away from that. Sorry :(

Also

1) Do a spyware scan

2) Get an good AV

3) Avoid Dodgey sites

4) Don't share your password

5) Get a bank pin

6) Don't use same pass on ANYTHING else

7) Make good recoveries (aka not info easily found on forum profiles, fb etc)

You now have like 0.00000000000001% chance of being hacked and IF it does happen they can only get to your non-banked items.

Yeah that advice is pretty solid, if you follow all of that it ensures you have a secure password, secure recoveries, safe from keyloggers, haven't handed out password to 'friends' who might double cross you and if a fansite (eg tip.it) does get hacked they can't just plug in that pass and get in either.

so you want advice on how to get jagex to give you your stuff back, but won't take basic security measures to secure your account? Why should they bother (not that they do anyway  ) if you won't? You'll just get hacked again.

That's what I got from his reply too.

In all honesty there's nothing you can do to reclaim your items, just take the steps mentioned in the second and third posts outlining how to prevent getting hacked again. Sorry for your loss, but it is seriously unlikely that you took the proper steps to secure your account, so take this as a lesson for the future.

I'm so sorry to hear that you got hacked. I wouldn't let it bother me since it's only a game.

But I can still see how bad it is to get hacked like you did. I'd imagine re-buying everything you lost would take a very long time.

Also what's wrong with what Sy_Accursed said? I personally think he gave you very good advice.

I think Dachief was talking about the overestimated percentage of security (the ".00001"% thing) since you can do all these things and still get hacked via email recovery, the problems with their BS recovery system, etc.

But that's not the important thing to focus on what Sy said, OP. What Sy said is sound. I'd add onto that with the following: use a brand new gmail account that you won't use for ANYTHING ELSE and tie it to your RS account. Enable 2-step verification, and put it to whatever phone you'd use most often - texting, landline calls, whatever. Having your email secure is every bit as important as securing your RS account.

These are all things you should be doing after you get hacked (or honestly, before), which is part of what was asked in your topic title, so they're important to take note of, OP.

Beyond that, you just submit a recovery form and be patient until you get your account back. They won't refund your items. You will most likely be starting from scratch. Be prepared.

well i did like 90% of that stuff and got hacked. im using a mac, which has a great built-in av-software, i change my pw frequently, have an extra email-address for it and - oh wonder - don't tell anybody my passwords (thx for indirectly calling me retarded), don't use same passwords and most obviously do have a bank code.. -.- that's why my answer was the posted one. or maybe im just the 0.00000000000001%.

i actually still do have my account. they haven't changed the password of it. no idea why not. but i still have it. didn't need to get it recovered or something (which i still did for security and evidence purposes.

oh and to the other guy who asked why jagex should bother giving me my items back: maybe because ive been paying those mofos 5$ a month over 7y to play a game and to support their backoffice, their IT, their security team and who the hack else is responsible to keep my account secure. and if they don't manage to keep hackers from getting my items i really request them to provide me with the exact same stage of my account, which it had when it got hacked. i assume that's what their main task is.

so thx for your replies. anyway.

and thx to kim, the only one who realizes that its not always the players fault to get hacked.

Admittedly Jagex recovery is muffed lately so it can be easy to fool via email recovery, however with gmail two step verification you still can make it pretty darn difficult for a hacker to achieve this and with the right precautions, as I previously mentioned, you can make it near impossible to get hacked. Yes my prior percentage was hyperbolic, but the sentiment still stands as they are all steps you can take to greatly improve account security and with a good 2 step verified email you can pretty much negate the recovery issues that recently arose via email recovery.

And no matter how much you moan about items lost the T&Cs you agreed too when joining RS says they do not return items and are not obliged too.

I see what you did there....

Basically the above info is all you can really do. Jagex won't refund your iterms, but you can look at it as a challenge to yourself to rebuild if that helps you.
