1 - Introduction

Hey all,

First of all, I'm not sure if RSC blogs are allowed in this section (apart the fact there are one or couple here), but I don't seem to find any RSC blogs in RSC part of the forums either. This is a daily blog, similar to my RS blog, except alot less "serious". My goal is to have fun and kill some time when I got nothing else to do, and don't feel like playing RS. I've just made my return to RSC after 8 years. My stats were the same I had when RS2 was officially launched, and I was never a member in RSC. So basically I just want to go back to those early RS memories, and also try all the member things in RSC I never got to try. I hope moderators let me keep my blog in this section of the forum, so people who might have interest in following also RSC blog have opportunity to do so.

I hope people find my journey in RSC entertaining to follow. This is also for everyone who never had opportunity to play RSC, or know what kind of game is behind the one we all are currently playing. Hope you enjoy!

2 - Differences to current RS

Everyone who has played RSC know that it's almost completely different game than current RuneScape. First of all there are alot less activities to do, less skills, and pretty much everything is less complicated. There are barely no "use x" options for training skills, and only one I know is when using trade or bank. Back in the days I remember even trading didn't have "x" option. You just had to hold your button until you had as many items as you wanted. It was horrible - especially when trading hundreds of thousands of gold.

One of the biggest differences is lack of people, aswell as lack of grand exhange. Finding the items you need will be alot harder, and have to be done the old fashioned way through asking people you see and writing in forums. I've already started my own buy/sell threads in official RSC forums, and managed to make my first friends there. First impression on RSC is that people are very helpful. That is a good sign!

So all in all, training is alot slower and is alot more tedious. Basically you have to click for every single thing you do, instead of being able to AFK. You can't drink potions or eat while fighting, so you have to run away each time you want to do that. That will definitely make quests alot harder than they sound. That's another reason why I'm curious to go questing in RSC.

Trading is also harder, and is in many times based on trust. You can trade only 12 items at a time, and many of the items are not in any way stackable. Luckily there is certification system (similar to noting in RS), which allows you to turn some of the materials into patches of 5 (cert), that stack. In other cases, you either have to trade every 12 items at a time (like herbs or such) and pay money each time. Or pay money in advance and just hope the other person gives all the herbs he promised. So far, I've gotten everything (and more) than the deals required. That leaves a good image of the people, and make you want to trade with them again.

Anyways, there are awful alot of differences that deserve a closer look, so I hope to give them time with my future posts. I can't describe the whole RSC in one post. So let's move on! ;)

3 - Start

After first day in RSC, my stats were following:

statsit130712.png

As you can see, I started my journey to members RSC by thieving men in Lumbridge. To be honest, it was quite similar to current pickpocketing, aside lacking animations for the action. Also instead of stunning when failing to pick the pocket, the NPC's attack you. Either you kill them, or wait 3 rounds of combat to run away and pickpocket again. To be honest, I don't really like the skill any more than in current RS. Tedious as ever. However, as thieving basically offers instant gp for every succesful pickpocket, I thought it was good way to start. I made couple thousands to get me some iron items and iron 2 handed sword to make killing things a bit more faster. It's a start, but I still got a long way ahead of me.

I also tried my hand in fishing, woodcutting and fletching. Soon after I managed to get proper start enough to go combat.

4 - Goals

Like I said earlier, my main goal is to just adventure, explore and have fun. I don't have plans for 99 skills, max stats or anything of that matter. Those are my RS blog goals. Here I just want to do whatever I happen to feel like, and see what happens. My main goals are in combat, as I don't really fancy training skills in RSC. I still hope to give all skills a shot, and train them atleast up to somewhere. I wish to reach 1000 total one day, and hopefully have 30+, 40+ and 50+ all skills. Maybe even further. Maybe.

Another main goal is to gain enough wealth to hopefully get best possible gear in RSC (dragon medium, dragon baxe, dragon square, rune plate and rune legs?) but as long as I get dragon weapon it's all good. That shouldn't be hard. Dragon medium and dragon square cost bucketloads in RSC. 3m for helmet and 15m+ for shield? Damn.

Eventually I also wish to complete each and every quest there is. So far I've completed all free to play quests aside dragon slayer. So dragon slayer shall be first, and onwards to members quests then.

In overall, I think that is all, and I hope people will find my journey back in time as interesting as I do. Hopefully I get comments and questions, and my blog gets a warm welcome in the RS era of changes. More to come!

First Days

So I decided to kill chaos druids for money, and it didn't take long to find first customer interested in herbs and runes I had looted. I sold him the herbs and runes, and bought a rune 2h and strength amulet. Huge improvement to iron 2h, for sure! He was also kind enough to give me adamant platebody free of charge, on top of that deal. Lucky me! This is how I went back to chaos druids (steel legs and helm on pic).

chaosdruids.png

Am I the only one thinking rune 2 hander is one pretty weapon? So shame it never got much of use in RS2 afterwards. It was and is the beast in RSC though. After all, all weapons are same speed, so only weapon stats matter. Only upgrades I can get are dragon longsword and dragon battleaxe now. And it's quite a while to 60 attack anyways.

After killing chaos druids for another hour or two, I got my second customer (who I had good chat with about RSC and RS2 aswell). He bought 124 unidentified herbs from me for 800 gp each + 1 strenght potion for each herb. So I got 99,200 coins and 124 strenght potions. Those will make training alot more fun, I think! I will put those potions in good use. I bought rune legs with the money. I also got this while collecting herbs. (ps. it's funny it says defence in level up message, but defense in stats screen)

40defense.png

Now that I got rune legs and rune 2 hander, the two next obvious upgrades were rune platebody and rune large helmet. Shame that rune large helmet is quite hard to get, with not many sellers and zero shops to buy from, I just have to wait till I find someone to sell one. Or go DIY on greater demons and hope for the best. I'm not sure if my levels are good enough to greaters yet, though. Which is funny, considering I two-hit greaters in RS2. Well, this is totally different story here. So I decided to go for rune platebody first. I noticed I hadn't done dragon slayer yet (but luckily found the map on my bank), so I went to finish Elvarg off. I thought I had to fix the ship still, so I ventured around wilderness picking planks (and scaring my a$/#s off seeing white dot) and begging for nails in Varrock anvils. I didn't really beg, I just asked and got them immediately. What nice folk they RSCscapers are! Anyways, I did it all just to realise I had already fixed the boat 8 years ago. How could I not remember that!

Nevermind, I took my gear and explored Crandor - getting hit by skeletons, hobgoblins, scorpions and demons on the way - just to get almost baked by Elvarg. I guess I'm really overestimating myself too much, cause I thought Dragon Slayer would be a total cakewalk (like it is in RS2). It wasn't. I almost learned it through the hard way, when I couldn't hit the dragon at all. I blame my adamant longsword about that though. However, after long struggle (10 lobsters and 3 sharks later) the b%"#¤rd finally gave up and died. I was ready to cheer and jump for joy just to realise there are no emotions in RSC. Nevermind, I didn't have time for that anyways, cause the level 51 (or whatever) skeletons tried to finish the bold but exhausted dragon slayer. I managed to escape through a paperlike wall (all walls are paperlike here, though) and crawl to freedom. Here is picture of my moment of glory. Dragon Slayer, f*¤#k yeah!

After my heartbreaking (in many ways) encounter with the good old paperdragon (alot of paperstuff here), I decided to do something more relaxing and went off.. Well.. Back to chaos druids. I still need money, man! By the way, I was trying to take a picture of the fight, but my hands were shaking too much to be able to watch out of the screen. Not really. Well, a bit.

As my blog is still standing, I assume it's all good to have RSC blogs in this section too. That's good!

I started the day by killing hundred or so chaos druids, and managed to level my melee levels a couple of times. I also reached 50 combat (which I forgot to take a picture of). After having about 150 unidentified herbs in my bank, I sold them to a friend for 1,000 gp each. I also managed to get more attack potions, trading them at 2 to 1 ratio for snape grass. That gave me enough wealth to buy a rune platebody and left me with like 100,000 gp extra. A bit more actually.

I was only short of a rune large helmet from complete rune set (well with 2-handed sword that is), so I decided to try my luck at greater demons, which according to runescape classic wiki have 1/128 chance of dropping rune large helmet. I've gotten dozens of those things in RS2, so going to hunt for one felt a bit awkward. I remember getting rune large helmet from greater demon back in 2003 or so, and it basically doubled my bank back then. How time flies.

greaterdemons.png

Those level 87 demons aren't that easy for level 51 combat in rune gear. I managed to kill about 8 or so of them before running out of food, and decided to I'll kill one more before doing something else. I figured that I might have to train my levels a bit higher before trying to tackle greater demons again. However, when you least expect it...

runelargedrop.png

..There it was on the ground. Actually, as you can see I "faked" the picture, cause I picked the helmet up before realising to picture it. I forgot it gives a message like that on the screen when you're dropping items. Oh well, you got the point. I got a rune large helmet in 10 kills. Awesome!

Happy about my success, and the fact that I managed to complete one of my first goals (rune full set with 2-handed sword), I decided to do something else for a change. I went to Taverley, talked to Kageemex (or whatever his name was), and started my journey of collecting meats for druidic ritual. Considering I normally would've just teleported to grand exhange and bought everything I need, this little quest became a bigger task than I first thought. I walked (yes walked, I still don't teleport) through Falador to Lumbridge, killed a chicken and a cow, continued to Varrock forest for some bear meat and eventually finished this chore in Varrock sewers killing a rat. After about 15 minutes walk around pretty much the whole free-to-play globe, I managed to gather all the required resources and sink them in the thunderous cauldron in Taverley dungeon. I returned to Kageemex (if he is not called Kageemex, then now he is) and gained knowledge about herbs. 99 Herblore in RS2 doesn't count for that, I guess. Ah! Now I get it. Of course herblore doesn't count for Herblaw...

druidicritualdone.png

After looking at the picture I took, I realised he was called Kaqemeex instead, so I take my previous words back about the poor druids name. However, after the quest I took the mountain route back to Edgeville, and returned to cause havoc among the mistreated chaos druids. That's that for today, and tomorrow is a new day. If someone is reading this blog, give a shout so I know I'm not writing to myself. Which is not too bad actually, but you know. You know right? Anyone ever wrote a diary and wrote it in a way that incase someone found it you would be prepared? I never did.. I know you're reading this...

Thanks for your replies! It's good to see some find my journeys interesting. And also to ask questions that need answers. Agility, eh?

Despite the lack of activities in RSC compared to RS2, it still offers alot of content that I never had chance to try before. And even though I don't expect much from most, I've still decided to give them all the opportunity they (don't) deserve. Like agility for example. Agility - with all my heart - has earned it's spot as the most annoying skill in RuneScape ever since runes got spanned. I've trained the skill to 83, and I still can't figure out how. It's dull, repetitive and what seems like a worthless task compared to what kind of rewards it offers. You can run longer and use occasional shortcuts. Yaa-hoo. However, after trying the skill out in RSC actually made me reconsider everything. Let's see: Three courses, 99 levels, dozen less shortcuts, no animations, no costumes to unlock, no cape and no running. Why on earth would one want to ever torture himself trying to train agility in RuneScape Classic? First of all the skill looks - if possible - even more dull than any other skill I can imagine. You spend most of the time on top ladders, where there is nothing but darkness all around you. Empty "room" after "room" you tackle obstacles (without even tiniest animation of doing anything) in solitude trying to figure out why. No, that wasn't even all. The worst part was - yes even worse - that it was even slower to train back then. According to my calculations I would've needed to run around the first basic agility course in the Tree Gnome Stronghold almost 280 times to get level 35. That is 25,000 experience. At level 35 I can double my XP rates at barbarian course, and probably even triple or quadruple that when I finally get access to Wilderness course at level 52. That would approximately take me almost 15 hours of gameplay to get there. 15 hours to reach a bit over 100,000 experience! Talking 'bout bad XP rates... Man, I must say whoever trained this skill to 70 or further in RuneScape classic deserve something more than just a pat in the back. I came, I saw, I got frustrated. I managed to gain 15 levels, but I'm not looking forward to returning. For the last 20.

agiltiytraining.png

I took a picture simply because this slippery log was the only obstacle in the whole course that had even some sort of basic walking animation over the log.

If training agility was frustrating experience, I can't say much better words about ranged training. Actually, I trained ranged before going to agility course, so that might explain why I got extremely frustrated. Let me explain to those who don't know or can't remember. In RSC you can only range other creatures as long as they can't reach you. Unlike melees or magic, you can't use ranged while in close combat. This means that your only way to train ranged is hiding behind fences or shoot across the rivers or tables. And incase you don't want to use fortune for dissapearing arrows, you have to walk and collect your arrow after each enemy. That means alot of running back and forth. Let's not forget I already have 15 million ranged experience in RS2. First levels are the worst, I hope.

Here is me shooting a goblin behind the fence. I actually killed mostly cows, not goblins, to collect cowhides for the future crafting training.

rangetraining.png

Other things I did today in terms of skilling were fighting against a miner bot for iron ores at Varrock mines, collect runes from Varrock rune shop by switching back and forth the two servers and fletching arrow shafts and collect feathers for iron arrows in the making. I'm surprised I didn't add a single curse in the middle. It was not fun.

Rest of the day I decided to balance between questing and herb collecting with my best chaos druid friends. I leveled to 53 in combat, and managed to fill my bank with herbs I shall be needing for 45 herblaw. That's the level you need for Legends Quest. If you didn't catch it already, most of my level goals are aimed to Legends Quest. Thank lord the Gowers didn't put 60+ level requirements on quests back then. I would be training agility still in year 2020 if that was the case.

The quests (Plague City and Biohazard) offered me actually a fair bit of enjoyment in going through the old storylines with ridiculous dialog. If I took a picture of every single spelling error (or funny spelling) or irratonal reasoning in RSC questlines, I wouldn't have space to write from all the pictures. I know my English isn't perfect, but one would think they would've even bothered to try with a game people pay to play for. I guess I was wrong. Or people just didn't care back then. I didn't really care either, but I can assure you a grammar nazi pig would have to keep close watch on his (or hers) blood pressure if making a run for the Legends cape. In my opinion it's just hilarious. I try to catch some funny pictures for the blog!

Here be me after rescuing Elena from the Plague City.

plaguecitydone.png

And here I'm chilling with my buddy King Lathas after finding out (SPOILER) that the whole plague epidemic was a hoax.

biohazarddone.png

This quest was actually the first time that being too cheap for using law rune to teleport was a good idea. After reading the quest guide later, I realised that teleporting would've destroyed the plague sample I had collected from Elena. Thank Guthix I decided to just take a beach walk from Ardougne to Karamja - and have a little sailing trip to Port Sarim - from where I headed to Rimmington - and from Rimmington I took a forest walk past Draynor Manor - to end up in Varrock. You really get to see the World if you're not always teleporting. I've already forgotten how many things (which all actually look pretty much the same to me in RSC) there are in land of Gielinor, while using only teleports in RS2. I've definitely learned to appreciate teleports the beauty of taking a relaxed walk across the whole globe for each and every quest. It sort of.. Puts you closer to the nature?

That'd be that for today, and tomorrow I think I'm going to fix that damn broken clock in Ardougne. I hate not knowing what time it is when I'm waiting a boat to take me to Karamja. And more!

I spent today playing RS2 instead, so I'll just answer your questions before a proper update of my next gaming session. Yes there are bots in RSC, just probably for the same reason as in RS2. People want to have high levels, but don't want to train themselves. Besides, it's awfully easy to bot in RSC. Only 40 players per server leaves you alot of room to bot without anyone ever even walking by. Or if they do, they most likely won't bother. I have yet to see first player moderator either. If Jagex can't get rid of bots in RS2, why would they even bother with Classic. Personally, I don't really mind about bots as long as they are not coming in front of me. Like that mining bot for example. Usually players are really nice and bots are in overall rare. Community wise, RSC is a good experience.

To Gwynrwyn, I haven't been in Khazard city yet. Thanks for the tip though, I'll definitely add that to my list of places to visit - maybe I can even get a funny picture or two. :)

Updates to come after next gaming session!
