Gold Dupe Glitch...

probably inefficient in the sense that they don't have the means to automatically pin down culprits, but probably close enough to pull up the details of particular individuals and find suitable evidence of shenanigans

it is unlikely that they will be able to undo the actual damage, and the people responsible already got what they wanted

ironically, banning the users and taking those items out of circulation (if it is still possible) will actually accelerate the problem further

meanwhile, if i'm going to do ineffectual blaming without the facts at anybody, i'd point at the people who have no sense of moral responsibility in the first place

Just found this back from a long long time ago:

We would like to remind our users that buying/selling RuneScape accounts is not allowed, and that buying/selling RuneScape items for real money outside of the game is also not allowed.

We did once consider selling runescape money and items in an online shop on our own site for real cash. However we decided to sacrifice that extra revenue for the good of the game, since we felt it would devalue hard-working players achievements if another player could then just buy their way past them. We don't want rich players to be able to simply buy their way to the top. This is clearly not how the game is meant to be played.

And this:

We would like to make everyone aware that we have added Rule 12 to our rules.

This rule says that:

'RuneScape items must only be exchanged for other items/services within the game. Exchanging RuneScape items for real-life money or other real-life benefits is not allowed.'

This is not a new rule - it has always been part of the terms and conditions that every player agrees to when creating their account. However, we felt that this needed to be made absolutely clear, so it is now also part of our rules.

The reason for this is simple - We want RuneScape to be a game where everyone has the same chance regardless of their wealth in real-life.

This is also the reason we don't sell RuneScape items for cash on our own website. Even though we could make extra money in this way. We don't think it's fair or even fun if players can just buy their way to the top!

Someone made a shed load of IRL money from that glitch I'll bet...

If my calculations are right, this guy made like $200,000. Holy shit.

A legend was born.

A legend?... not quite. I doubt he paid any tax on that money. Not only do we as players suffer from this illegally aquired money but so does the country he lives in. I hope someone dobs him in to the authorities.

Tbh you're just being salty, that guy is the epitome of winning.

Although if he's not already filthy rich, that amount of money being deposited in his bank will set off 1001 red flags to the bank for potential money laundering or fraud. So, yeah.

There is something very interesting we can learn from this. Jagex has/had almost no way to effectively monitor for RWT or anomalous GP gains. Accounts should have been monitored for any of the following:

- Picking up large amounts of GP from the ground (good old fashion drop trade RWT)

- Giving away large amounts of GP without significant PVM drops, magic exp gains, or GE sales/trades (this covers the main ways of GP income)

- Strangely high number of interactions with a non-common aspect of the game (not skill related, travel related, inter-mini-game related)

The fact that Jagex can't even manage to have basic bug-detection sent what little belief I had left in the company straight through the floor. Before the mandatory "then why don't you do it better" post, this is what I do every single day, tracking and monitoring account and transaction data for anomalies and fraud attempts.

I think it's fair to say at this point the whole free trade/wildy back thing was a PR stunt to make more money, nothing to do with some new fantastic technology that catches bots.

I spent 40 hours in fight kiln trying to collect cash towards a party hat, so basically after all this I gained nothing as party hats have risen more than I gained money in all that time...? Oh lord.

It's a bit of a shame that Jagex didn't either

  • Use a new currency to be traded for GP later, to avoid this issue, and/or
  • Test their code to avoid this breakage.

Then again, this has been their track record - push code now, fix it later. I'm learning in the industry that, if you do this, your technical debt could be too high.

And that while it's so easy to create...

Reportuser or lockaccount If

(bankvalue + inventoryvalue + moneypouche) gained over X gp's and tripled within 12 hours.

(along the Grand Exchange prices compared to 24 hours ago).

X gp's could be like 50M

It's allmost impossible to go from 50M to 150M withing 12 hours even from 17M to 50M would be very hard.

Even if you're a staker it won't be easy.

On the other side, maybe it's hard for Jagex because of that 2.147M thing.

How would 17m to 50m be "hard" for stakers, would take 2 stakes if they won both. 17m > 34m > 68m. Boom there's your 50m+.

I agree with everyone, this guy is a winner, he may have potentially [bleep]ed us with rares/other items. To break Jagex and get that much money out of them without them realizing is a big win.

Sigh, wow he is so amazing he found a bug & abused it. And even sold the items for real life cash, while hiding his activity from the taxmen. That's an awesome achievement for sure!

Then they came to the yews

Then they came for the ores

Then they came for me

Amazed that they took this sort of action on the accounts/players.

Massive thumbs up from me!

The naming and shaming just made it better! :P

Wonder when they will get to the other 5 (gp) dupes out there. Also lol they banned roy, anyways further evidence for what I said in my previous post

I think you should be a good person and report these 5 other so called "gp dupes" then.

If I recall correctly, they named and shamed some people last year prior to the bot nuke. But I don't remember any other times at the moment.

meh they are only 2m an hour and hardly game breaking. Besides whenever you help Jagex out you risk getting rolled back likea nother TIF user who helped Jagex patch a dungeoneering glitch.

These things have their natural course and will eventually get byproduct patched or leaked on youtube

Edit: I love the name and shame on this, but the rat pits one a few months ago didn't get a word . Its more common then you'd think

Eh, 2m/hr can still be substantial if there's bot(s) doing it all day. I don't see how you would be rolled back or banned from JaGex for sending in bug reports..

Never heard about the Rat Pits one.. Now you've made me curious..

Didn't they name names during that d-bolt glitch that happened a while ago, or was that over a year ago already...? Time goes by too fast! :(.

I don't agree, I do think they read bug reports. They just receive a large number of them so it takes a while to process it all. Although I do agree, sometimes it seems like they're not reading them. :(.

That's just my personal opinion, however.

This was from the news post that was posted today, concerning the bug abuse:

Lastly, if you experience or hear of a bug in the game, the right thing to do is submit a bug report so that we can review it and fix ASAP.

Thanks for reading. It’s very sad for all of us when these things happen, but nobody likes a cheat and actions must and will be taken.

I'm judging a book by its cover here so don't hate me...

00O0OlI0lIO0 (856 Total, 54 Days Played) - mostly botted?

--> Rs Completed (2496 Total (Maxed Player), 302 Days Played) --> That's very impressive if it's legitimately played.

Gold prices over the last week (bulk not small sale): .45-.50/m -> .20/m -> .38/m (for a matter of hours when patch was announced) -> .20-.25/m and no one sees it going up for a while as an estimated 500B was dumped into markets on well known sites and another 1 TRILLION+ was dumped to bulk buyers/resellers overseas.

This will effect the economy for a long time and especially rare prices will be so over inflated that it will be near impossible for a normal runescaper to achieve one. (more so than it already is).

Back to building my shard collection with how worthless GP is now.

Peace,

Vann

*information was obtained from post on major gold selling sites, word of mouth of sellers/buyers I personally know, and photos of accounts with multiple max shard stacks. If this post needs to be removed that is fine.
