How does the splitting of the Godsword into 4 separate (rather than simply alternate versions) swords fit within the godwars lore? I was under then impression that the lore said there was 1 sword that was shattered into shards. But this seems to indicate that there are 4 completely different godswords (through a lore standpoint, not stats). I could be wrong though, not much of a lore buff, just currious.

You could say that the different hilts give the blades different properties, and one of them might be cosmetic look based on the given god of the hilt. :)??

Or perhaps each faction modified their own sword.

Now I want to look into the lore myself.. *thinks back on the Sword of Truth series..* Makes me want to cry thinking of those books. If Jagex pulled off that volume of lore for RuneScape, I'd be more than happy. Kind of wish there was something to Rs that was almost like reading a book. Anyone know where you can find out info on the God wars? Like, letters from the gods or is it in the books?

Yeah would make sense each faction fashioned the blade into a weapon suited to their troops, and can easily fit in lorically in the shards and blades become much plainer and/or are replaced with some sort of gem/embellishment. Eg the 'godsword' they were fighting over was actually an enchantment within a gem that would modify a weapon its applied too. Hence they have 4 very different swords which it fits.

Or just their hilts have magic in them to form the blade into a suitable form.

A wizard did it. He casted a spell. It's magic. You don't gotta ask questions.

They could have taken the old shards and reforged them into a new weapon. This would allow for customization.

The hilts are enchanted. When attached to the magic-absorbing blade, the metal changes to have different properties, including looks. Retcon achieved.

Love the new looks. I actually got a lot of amusement from that ogre poking his own belly button, then eating it.

At 0:12 on the right you can see updated Pernix, Virtus, and some players wearing what looks like Torva boots.

From the empty days of hope, deny the darkness

If only to hide, to escape this life
And live forever, forever in the sun

Maybe the power of each specially made hilt has an effect on the godswords blade?

I'm betting on them saying hell with the lore and just making 4 impressive swords.

I do find it interesting that they are removing the special effect of the god swords at the same time as making them look different... So now they are only cosmetically different instead of realistically different.

That looks amazing. Focus the graphics team on cool stuff like this and not the crappy non medieval cosmetic items please.

Graphics team is doing a pretty good damn job. Can't wait for this + Al Kharid update. I wonder if they're going to change Virtus/Pernix graphics as well?

Totally agree, given the current graphical level they are producing they really need to give most monsters and npcs a once over and the vast majority of the map too.

I mean off the top of my head they ought to do this kind of makeover for:
  • Shanty Desert - like the entire thing all the settlements etc. Make them inkeeping with the rocky stylings of the abbey and forthcoming kharid, though obviously more ancient eygpt style building.
  • Lumbridge and Draynor - One of the more up-to-date areas but still behind now
  • Varrock - Same as above
  • Falador - Same again
  • Sarim & Rimmington - Bit dated now
  • Musa Point & Brimhaven - not been touched for years
  • Southern Karamja (Tai Bwo, Shilo, shipyard etc.) - again very dated.
  • Yanille and Guntannoth - Don't think this has ever had a proper makeover, include MA, jungle hunter, cwars, port khazrad and fight arena and observatory
  • Ardougne - both east and west
  • Seers & Cathurby & Camelot - again looking dated
  • Trollheim & other northern reaches
  • Fremminik lands - rellekka and all the islands
  • Tirrawan - seriously thoose trees are kinda messed up next to the newer stuff
  • Crandor, Soulwars Isle, Ape atoll, brain death etc. - basically all the islands.
  • Brimhaven dung
  • Taverly dung
  • Wilderness dungeons
  • Waterfall dungeon
  • Smoke dungeon & well
  • Shadow dungeon
  • Swamp cave
  • Dorgeshkann
  • Slayer cave
  • Waterbirth
  • Myreque tunnel
  • Keldagrim
I could go on...

The Karidian Desert hasn't been changed since it was texturized with RSHD I believe, so it does very much need an update. Falador and Varrock need some polishing, but Lumbridge is one of the more ok places in my opinion. Rimmington got an update with the Queen Black Dragon, but the area above Rimmington (Melzar's Maze area) should be given a small rework. Other than those comments I like your list. ^

I would love an RSHD style massive graphic update to the overworld map.

From the looks of the HTML5 engine picture that might come along side the engine change...

@Sy

I don't agree with Draynor, I think it's one of the better looking areas in the game.

Yanille and everything south of it is what needs to be updated first imo

Draynor was fairly recently updated anyways, along with the night/day thing in the area (it's always gloomier there). I think that was an oversight.

I agree that everything south in the members area could use some fresh paint. While it takes longer, I would prefer to see this release all at once instead of in bits and pieces.

Poor lore, first all the silly cosmetic stuff, the Runespan et. al, and now this Godsword fiasco :D

Anyway, Kree'arra:
