Either there's a really good reason I'm overlooking or else this just seems so oblivious:

Don't remove gatestones from a player that disconnects during the game (or slap a timer of 5 mins on it). Hurts a lot if you've gated a remote location with a bunch of doors and then suddenly... dc.

Quick idea:
How about having the ggs replace the location by default?
At least in case of a no return, team can cover for the lost gate.
