Makoto_the_Phoenix
It seems as if this update is more for the players, who are concerned that nothing's being done about the bots, rather than the underlying mechanism to detect and ban bots itself. 1 Linux User/Enthusiast | Full-Stack Software Engineer | Stack Overflow Member | GIMP User...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago. You've hit the nail on the head. I do hope this update is more than just a "hey look, we're doing so much to get rid of bots!" and actually consists of some further back-end development to their bot detection systems. I'd say it's both seeing as they NEED the underlying mechanism to detect and ban bots to be working for this to have any impact at all. The graphics and bay area are just nice cosmetic add-ons to add visibility to the fight. After all now people say oh jagex never ban them, I see the same bots here all day blah blah; it's much more posititve (and off-putting to potential botters) if they can actively see bots being removed. They even said in interviews and stuff the big bot thing IS this new system that detects and auto-bans. 1 Operation Gold Sparkles :: Chompy Kills :: Full Profound :: Champions :: Barbarian Notes :: Champions Tackle Box :: MA RewardsDragonkin Journals :: Ports Stories :: Elder Chronicles :: Boss Slayer :: Penance King :: Kal'gerion Titles :: Gold Statue

A simple arrow over the player's head and text in the chat box would be sufficient enough notice IMO. 1 Linux User/Enthusiast | Full-Stack Software Engineer | Stack Overflow Member | GIMP User...Alright, the Elf City update lured me back to RS over a year ago. A simple arrow over the player's head and text in the chat box would be sufficient enough notice IMO. Now you are just trying to find fault with Jagex just for the sake of finding a problem. If it was a simple arrow you probably would have said it isn't extreme or obvious enough. I still think the whole idea is just to appease players, but if you can actually see bots getting banned instantly that's pretty cool.
Kaida23
I actually like the idea of this. I have no problem with them adding a bit of mirth as long as the detection system works and continues to work for more than a couple of weeks. That said, why are they giving so many warnings? If, as the video claims, they're detecting the actual software and not merely suspicious, repetitive clicking (let's face it, a lot of players can be extremely efficient when they want to) then one warning, at most, should be more than enough. And, imo, even that is too much. If the system is that good, it should be one and done. 1 Check out my blog to read the Adventures of a Big Damn (F2P) Hero. Dexek
This is somewhat entertaining, however I feel that these hands from above are going to cause me all sorts of lag and blackscreening. The bots are actually going to affect me in a negative way, however it will be from one of Jagex's attempts to be entertaining. Nice to see that they're actually talking about the bot issue now, and at least initially accomplishing some bot removal. ilovecuttingyews
I agree, Kaida. 3-strikes is too much for bots. Especially since the majority are throw away goldfarming accounts. All the RWTers have to do is bot until they get 2 warnings, transfer the GP to a mule (or sell it off directly from the goldfarmer bot) and then create new accounts.
Sy_Accursed
It hinges on how good the detection is really. If it literally picks you up in a matter of seconds or under 5mins or so I don't see an issue with the 3 strike system (especially since first 2 entail temp bans anyway) as it's not gonna let RWTers etc. do anything productive before they get grabbed. 1 Operation Gold Sparkles :: Chompy Kills :: Full Profound :: Champions :: Barbarian Notes :: Champions Tackle Box :: MA RewardsDragonkin Journals :: Ports Stories :: Elder Chronicles :: Boss Slayer :: Penance King :: Kal'gerion Titles :: Gold Statue

True. But that would require a fairly good detection system that they just don't have now. I'm not saying it can't be done, but they've said very little about the back-end parts of this update, and have focused telling us about the visual. I hope you're right, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high.

I hope you're right, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up too high. They have said in this video and in prior interviews however that they have been working on a new really good detection system, which is kind of the core backend to this update. So it ought to be pretty decent, though obviously we have to wait a see; the only reason they haven't said much about it (other than that they have it and it's coming) is because they can't. What more is there to say other than that they have it and it's coming out that doesn't give away hints or outright info on how it works? Both of which is info they must not give out as it just gives bot devs help in finding work arounds. Jonanananas
I very much like the idea of the hand. If players who use bots to train their main (but maybe not right at the moment) see how efficiently (that's assuming their new detection system works hopefully >.>) bots are detected, it should hopefully deter them from botting. I don't like the 3 strikes system, 2 is more than enough. The botany bay itself is completely useless and I wish they wouldn't have wasted their time on that :/
jayc3399
What I'm curious to know is how this affects people using things like AHK to rebind on the keyboard. As it is currently your actions can get very repetitive with it. Piu
What I'm curious to know is how this affects people using things like AHK to rebind on the keyboard. As it is currently your actions can get very repetitive with it. Probably nothing. Seeing how weak their bot detection systems are, I would imagine they are actually very careful about legitimate players being banned. Mercifull
It's supposedly an all new detection system so there isnt any point basing opinion on their current methods. Personally, it seem's like a good update I just don't understand how this will work in the long term. If the detection is as good as they claim then surely in future noone will bother botting and so it will become dead content? wolfmon56
So I wonder if they will reset the account along with the 2 warnings. Otherwise I could see people pushing the bot busters buttons up to the two strikes. On a side note, imagine if you're not botting and you got pointed at... I would shit a brick. lol

As it is currently your actions can get very repetitive with it.That's one of my concerns as well. They stated in the video that the new system dectects the botting software, so hopefully people using mousekeys/AHK or are extremely efficient won't trigger false positives.
