Not played in a few years... What do I need to do?

Just like the title says, I've not played in several years, probably since 04/05. I found an old membership gift card in my closet a couple days ago, and am thinking of jumping back online to see how things have changed (and get that X cape). Thing is, it looks like so much has advanced since last time i played. I want to be able to jump in game and work on a skill (not really combat or questing), but it seems that they've all changed so much since last time I've played. Now we've got urns and special armor/gloves/etc that increase skills.... throw in the mingames and sub-quests, and I dont know where to start!

I liked fishing, mining, agility, and slaying around the last itme I played, but it looks like all the primo spots need to be unlocked by quests or some type of special armor to get the most XP. For example, last time I...

Fished... Catheby or fishing guild seemed to be the best

Mining... Falador, mining guild

Agility... Ape atoll course

Slaying... Slayer tower

I dont want to spend hours unlocking the best spot, so I guess I'm asking which one is the easist to level up in, given that I've not unlocked anything in the last several years. TIA

Well slayer is out of the question if you don't want to spend time unlocking things. There is the new skill summoning, new prayers, new weapons from dungeoneering and new potions that are vital for dps.

The other skills are easier though.

I think for agility you wouldn't have to do anything. Either do advanced gnome or barbarian courses.

For fishing you could do fish flingers, it's a cool minigame. You can go fish during the waiting time between each game if you want more xp, or just wait. C2 fishing. Rocktails I guess, slower xp but you make a small profit. For c2 fishing you would need basic experience of dg. I don't think the other ones have reqs.

Mining would be mining coal then gold in living rock caverns. If you don't have the lvl yet, I guess mine granite. Or join a star searching friends chat for the fun way.

I took a year or so off a while back, as well. I felt the same when I decided to come back, but found tons of new quests, areas, content, etc. This can certainly be overwhelming to anyone. A long list of red quest names you've never seen is rather intimidating. But, imho, doing these quests (easiest -> hardest) was a fantastic method of reintroducing myself to the game we all love. Aside from the graphical overhaul on several quests, this is a good way of gaining xp, items, areas. Plus, this will unlock slayer in its entirety, which is much more entertaining than in 04/05!

Welcome back! Always nice to see fellow veterans returning!

Thanks all, I never did get RS fully out of my system when i quit last time around, never really got bored with it like I do other games (bored with DIII after 2 months). Seems like Jagex has done good with keeping players involved with new quests, enemies, events, etc.

I dont really have the time anymore to put back into it like I once did, but it'll be a good diversion from time to time.
