The new layout/font

Hi, I have been using the old site for years now and have to say it has always been extremely useful - thank you!

 

I would like to see the new site be an even greater benefit to all RS players and as such I offer a single suggestion based off of what I experienced just now:

1) Make the font/tables like the old ones/better - the new ones look cramped and are harder to read, esp. yellow-highlighted words (things accessible at a given level).

Yeah, they really need to try viewing the new site at 4 feet or 5 feet back from a monitor, with the brightness/contrast set to 40% of maximum, while the page is stretched out to anywhere from 1024 wide to 1920 wide. They should find it is annoyingly hard to read that blasted Droid Sans font, as compared to the fonts used on the older site. :wacko:

Thanks for your feedback. :) We'll mess around with it a bit and consider changing the font to Verdana, and maybe losing the drop shadow in some places.

Could you give an example of a cramped table? And what do you mean by yellow-highlighted words? If possible provide a screenshot/link.

I bet you they're talking about the skill calcs. :huh:

Yup, it's definitely them alright. Really bad with yellow backgrounds, and somewhat annoying with green backgrounds. It would help to darken both of those backgrounds a bit, especially the yellow one. Analyze what the old site was like in regard to that, and you should be able to fix the new site. :geek:

There's some formatting on the text while in the red/green/yellow cells. I think this is what he's talking about.

 

 

It works really well on darker blue backgrounds but not so well on the lighter colors you see in the calculators.

Yeah that's the drop shadow I was talking about removing. It can easily be removed, but does is it actually difficult to read? It's fine with me. But I guess I could be alone in that. :P

Have you tried removing the over-sharpening on your monitor? I've got this monitor literally pixel-perfect here and saw the readability problems. :shock:

It's completely legible, DVD. But it's not as legible as the original.

 

It might be worse on old CRT's though.

I'm viewing that site, these forums, and everything else on an ASUS VS247H-P, with the sharpening set to non-interfering perfection. It's definitely anything but a CRT, and the legibility on the new site beta isn't that great for quite a few background colors because of the font/background mixture. Which, BTW, both the old and new sites are being affected in terms of background colors at the moment. Somebody brightened up the yellow background used in the skill calcs, and/or unbolded something that should still be bold, and I can tell! :blink:

As far as I know, absolutely nothing has changed.
