Construction training and some others

Efficiency experts - thou art needed!

Hey everyone, I am having a bit of a difficulty with deciding what to do with my construction skill. My short term goal is to get all skills 90+, I will have thieving in the bag this week, then I have a choice of either hunter or construction to go for 90, but I would go for construction for starters, because it is fast and I like instant gratification :).

I have 80M to spend, I can make about 3M/h soloing GWD and I have about 2-3 hours of game time per day.

I like to train as efficiently as possible, but I am not that great at figuring all the numbers out myself. The problem I have with construction specifically is that I have no actual idea of how many planks p/h you can realistically make. What I do know is oak planks are 8,9 gp/x, teak are 10,5 gp/xp and Mahogany are 14,9 gp/xp. (Thank you Grimy's spreadsheets!)

So I have 2 main questions concerning construction:

1. Are SC hammers worth it? taking into account that I can get 9 hammers in 2 hours (what kind of xp/rate and gp/rate do they become useful or not useful)

2. To get constr 90 I need approx 23,4k mahogany (48M); 54,6K oak (27,2M) or 36,4k teak planks (32,8M) I don't feel like oak would be worth all the time just to save 5,6M, what about Mahogany vs Teak?

3. Anything else I am missing and should take into account?

Suggestions appreciated for the following skills, these are what I am planning, if you have better ideas, or if you know xp rates, please do shoot at me:

1. Hunter (planning on doing HH, will get zamorack's favour at some point prob) Should be around 200k/h?

2. Firemaking - bonfires with magic logs (no idea of xp/h)

3. Agility - random xp lamps, task rewards and troll invasion all the way

4. Smithing - got 94 banked with SC hammers and addy ingot i - roughly 200k xp/h (i won't switch to plates cause I really cbf to walk that much, Artisans workshop ftw!)

5. Mining - LRC with urns and juju mining (no idea of xp/h)

Any and all help would be greatly appriciated!

Using Grimy's spreadsheet, using oak planks you can get 530k exp/h using oak planks if you make oak doors.

Teak planks you can earn 500k exp/h making carved magic wardrobes.

You'll be better off using oak planks because, a) it's faster and b) it's cheaper.

The figures have been worked out using a demon butler.

The reason it's faster is because you do 10 oak planks per door and you can only do 6 teak planks per wardrobe.

As for SC tools, if you enjoy SC then go for it, but if you don't there's no point in doing it to try and save money, they both take roughly the same amount of time, taking in account playing sc and construction vs. just doing construction alone.

EDIT:

At your current rate of income it's better for you to do construction without SC hammers.

I like to think of the Dark Bow like a Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) - you get one shot and then you're screwed.

Awesome, thanks a lot!

Grimys xp rates are off. And if your going to do dungeon doors you should use logs. Most people 99% can't click fast enough to do two sets of doors in five seconds. By using logs you save a huge chunk of money. It's a little more relaxed and your still getting ~440k xp/hour. This is from my own rates.

I'm sorry, I have no understanding of what you mean by "using logs" - I am really a noob when it comes to construction. Could you elaborate on that? (sounds ridiculous, but my house only has an altar, only reason I ever trained it was to get to gilded for my prayer, everything else was random xp)

Take a stack of notes logs with you plus twenty unnoted planks. Get your butler to follow you to the dungeon.

Talk to butler and hit uncert 20 oak logs. Build and remove one door. Butler should return roughly as you finish hit send to saw mill. Build and remove your second door butler returns with 20 planks. Repeat until you die of boredom.

When I trained construction, I left planks in bank. Then I just need to right-click demon butler and select take-26-planks-from-bank, build the door, and repeat. It's much easier.

About the other questions:

1. Hunter: try "Igneous-Carrion Combination", details in the mini-game guide. by the way, keep hunter exp higher than construction, so that you can gain construction exp in Tears of Guthix.

2. Firemaking: try Jadinko Lair. combined with woodcutting, it's best exp.

3. Agility: lamps, d&d...

4. Smith: Artisans workshop is fine.

5. Mining: pre-eoc is 60k/h. if you are in a decent clan, could be 80k/h with mining ring. post-eoc should be faster if dropping function well.

It's quite easy to do 2 set of oak doors in 5 seconds, you use the mouse as well as the number pad that is already set for your chat options. This minimise the time you have to use moving you mouse around clicking on various things, just use the mouse to right click-remove door, then use number bar at the top of the keyboard(i think it's number 1) to click 'yes i'm sure i want to do this', whilst you are pressing the number, you move your mouse to the area where you click to build oak doors in the option mentu that appears when you click 'build here'.

You should aim to have the door building hotspot empty before your butler arrives. It's quite achieveable and i'm not one for a click intensive skilling.

That is a huge amount of extra clicking, which also means you need to use planks. Sure the xp/hour would be faster but the carpel tunnel would also set in sooner lol.

Doing it with logs is cheaper and far more relaxed, my way of doing it actually leaves some down time while waiting to stretch your wrists or scratch your nose if need be. Having absolutely every second necessary is hugely intensive. I'd rather be a little more relaxed. (Dat XP WASTE)

Be warned that Grimy's rate is actually 2 sets of doors for the demon butler, not the regular butler... I haven't been able to click fast enough to achieve that. I believe grimy uses mousekeys setup to make it doable.

Thanks a lot for the good feedback! I just got thiev lvl 90, so I will get a few hunter lvls now and then get into construction. I will probably get 10k of logs and 10k planks and then see how xpwaste vs carpa tunnel is for me and go from there.
