RS not working on my Mac

Low Levelled

Recommended Posts

I got a Macbook Pro as a gift, and it won't play runescape. I've tried safari and chrome, as well as the client. On the browsers, it tries to auto setup and just crashes. I have tried to get to safe mode, but that hasn't worked. On the client, it just freezes instantly and won't allow me to click anything. I have tried to troubleshoot, but I may have missed something. Thanks.

The problem is that Mountain Lion and software mode do not like each other very much, it causes the game to lock up in the client and you can't even log in to change it. Similarly none of the browsers on Mac can play RS in software mode so they force you to auto-set up which causes them to crash.

Basically the only way to fix this is to get the client to load the game in safe mode, however the client for Mac is temperamental and doesn't go into safe mode very easily (took me half an hour of trying last time). That should, in theory, fix it as once the game loads in safe mode you're able to log in and you can sort your graphics settings out (just don't put it back in software mode, use OpenGL :P)

Good luck!

BloodAngel pretty much covered it

Another trick, if you truly cannot get it to go into safe mode is to load the client up on a windows system and set the graphics on opengl with minimum settings then copy the 'jagexappletviewer.preferences' file from your user folder and copy it into the user folder of your mac. This should cause your mac to read the settings opposed to trying to do a first load auto-setup from software mode.
