The Kalphite king. What i have tried, and found to work.

Hi, so, as we all know, Kalphite king was released, which was highly exciting. Alot of deaths upon release, but via trial and error, we have learnt and found some methods to work, and have some successfull kills.

So, first of all, lets talk gear, and familiars. We currently use in a team of 5, ganodermic armour, ragefire boots, master wands, arcane stream, onyx ring (i) /seers ring, god cape / skill cape and magic shields (FSK, spectral, arcane). We also are casting Blood barage, as not only does this help you heal (due to the spawned minions} but also seems effective.

For familiars, we all gave up with unis and yaks. A one hit can make your yak rendered pointless, and loss of food due to dying, and unis dont heal that much compared to the damage you end up getting, which is impossible to avoid. So, iron titan / steel titan seem the way forward. They hit hard and frequent, steel more so due to its 3 attack styles.

Invent, we have runes for blood barrage, a tele tab, scrolls for familiar, 1 ovl flask, 1 renewal, 1 restore, 1 sanfew, and rest rocktails. The tab is for A: quick escape, and B: for when the kill is done. (When you kill the king, it is easier to claim loot then tab out, due to the amount of spawned minions. THERE WILL BE ALOT OF THEM!)

When you click the hole for his lair, you get several options. You can start a team, or join an existing one, provided you have the host name, and the key to get in (the key is a code ranging from 0-999,999)

When we go into the lair, turn on torment and protect melee, and as soon as he rises from the ground, all pot up, and start attacking him. Watch his wings, as they willl show you what attack style he is using, and in effect, what to pray against. Yellow / orange wings = Protect melee. Green wings = protect range. Blue wings = protect mage. We shall go though the different styles now.

Each phase is dangerouse in all forms, as kk can use ultimates on you, which if not prepared for, can ko you fairly fast.

Melee phase, he can rear up, glow, then charge, meaning all people directly in from of him, will be shoved back, hit for roughly 2k lp, and stunned. He can also rear up, and glow green, and spit a ball of gloop at someone, turning them green. THIS IS IMPORTANT TO ENSURING THE SURVIVAL OF YOUR TEAM. When one of your team mates goes green (either they will shout in public or fc) Spam provoke, and instantly use either resonance / barricade / immortaltiy. This will stop your friend getting 1 HIT KILLED, and can make sure you dont die either. If minions are about, try to avoid the resonance, because if a minion hits you as soon as you provoked and resonanced. You will be 1 hit KO instead.

He will occasionally run to the sides, and eat dead minions (he may also eat some marauders that have spawned, try to keep tagging him to prevent this). Stun abilities / ice barrage, will stop this. When he digs undergound, try not to be under him when he resurfaces, as you will be hit for 2k lp upwards.

Green wings, range phase, is one of the easiest also. This time, he spams range ultimate abilities though. Just keep the eyes out for the green one hit kos, and eat up, keep spamming titans, and keep piling the pressure on him.

My personal most hated phase, the blue wings, mage. His balls of mage, hit hard, stun, and can ko an unwary player very fast. Blue balls, when they land, are instant hits of 1k+, with the chance to stun also, and the orange + blue balls, wil rise from the ground, and if you are still in proximity of them, will hit you hard (one can hit from 1-2k lp damage, and a cluster of them will kill you). Best thing to do this phase, is hit and run, hit and run. Eventually he will switch back to a different attack method.

Be warned though, this isnt all. He will sometimes glow a giant bubble around him, and for a period of 5-10 seconds, any incoming hits on him, will heal instead of damage. Much in the same way as the blood phase on nex.

With that in mind, keep piling pressure on, and you will eventually get the hang of it. Dont be annoyed with deaths, as it takes a while to get used to, and practice does definatly make perfect. The rewards can be great, and well worth the time and effort spent there.

Hope this helps some people, and god luck on some of that Drygore loot ;)

Interesting info here. Got a quick question, or two.

1) What would yo consider some absolute levels to fight the King in say a 5 or 20?

2) Do you have any idea is some lower tier armor would work in fighting the King, say Ahrim's? Or is this ill advised?

Imma edit some more from what iv found with barrages, switch it to bloodfire blitzz instead, as hitting the minions in mage phase causes more mage balls to come out. That in mind, any Damage over area abilities should be off limit to. So no chain, dragonfire breath, ricochet etc etc

I imagine ahrims will be fine. as people do go i void and survive. If ya ry iot and succeed, plz let us know :D and id not go by combat level, but rather stats. Id say 90+ defence, and 90+ magic (would make 182)

In larger teams, you could get away with lower stats. Just be able to wear gano, or as you asked, ahrims, and be able to cast bloodfire blitz. Im not guna lie, there will be a fw deaths, everyone dies a few times, but you will get the hang of it, learn the kings behavior, and what to expect. Come along this saturday (19th) to Hedgehogs KK event, as this will be an excellent time to learn it :D

I was thinking about it and I said, to heck with it, I'll come. Just one more question. Based on your suggestions it seems a fighting familiar is the way to go. If we can't summon an iron/steel titan, do you suggest we summon our highest fighting familiar (Rune Minotaur or Swamp Titan in my case).

If you cant use iron / steel titans, then it would be best to keep yourself safe. Dont take a B.O.B, as you will lose more supplies than needed. A healing familiar will be OK. That being said, if feeling slightly reckless, then feel free to bring the highest level combat familiar and scrolls you can.

Nice findings! Ive had a few runs at KK with my clan. Hes a tough little... err big guy haha. We found out, the more people you have, the more mage balls he throws. We did a 20 man mass for fun, he koed like 14 of us in his mage phase haha.

Went to the kk mass, learned a lot, and surprisingly got the "going green" with provoke then resonances/barricade/immortality understood. I can't seem to find groups to go to kalphite king with to get better but this really helps.

  • 2 weeks later...

So, after a while, and tweaking some set ups, here is what myself and my team have found to be an optimal set up. Fair warning, this does not come cheap, but the drops will more than make it back for you :D

Tankers, thier role is simple, keep your team alive!!! Usually you have 2 tankers, one to take the damage, and one to provoke when the time is right (Followed by resonance, or the other life saving abilities) This is possible with only one tank, and get the attackers to tank the hits.

Gear: This is what most tankers use. 9 times out of 10, they are maging, so here is a handy set up

Helm: Virtus Mask / Ganodermic Visor

Top: Virtus Robe Top / Ganodermic Poncho

Bottoms: Virtus Robe Bottom / Ganodermic Leggings

Gloves: Virtus Gloves or Spellcasters (Remember, virtus has a set effect, this includes the gloves) / Ganodermic Gloves / Barrows Gloves

Boots: Virtus Boots or Ragefire Boots (Same applies to the boots, Virtus Boots required for the set effects) / Ganodermic Boots / Infinity Boots

Shield: FSK / Arcane Spirit Shield / Spectral Spirit Shield / Ward of Subjugation

Wand: Virtus Wand / Ahrims Wand / Master Wand

Amulet: ASN / Saradomins Hiss / Amulet of Fury / Amulet of Glory

Ring: Seers Ring i or Onyx Ring i / Seers Ring/ Ring of Life

Cape: God Cape (or completionist / max cape) / Skill Cape / Cape of Legends.

Inventory: Runes for fire surge, or bloodfire barrage / blitz, 1 overload flask, 1 prayer renewal flask, Healing Aura scrolls (roughly 1k will do), 3 prayer potion flasks, rest in rocktails.

Familiar: Unicorn

As said previously your main job is to keep your team ALIVE! The attackers are the ones who will be causing the most damage during the battle. When a team mate turns green (As shown by the King rearing back, and spitting a ball at a player) You Provoke, quickly followed by resonance, immortality, or barricade. You will now be tanking til you turn green, and the other tank will do the provoke his self. This will continue between the tanks til the end of the kill. Action Bars will look like this:

Attackers, thier role is also simple, you must cause as much damage as possible via melee IN ALL PHASES: This is because, Drygore weaponry causes the king ALOT of damage, and can make kills faster than 5 minutes. Duos have recorded kills with just over 2 minutes by using drygore only. Keep your eyes out for the prayer switches, and keep hitting hard.

Gear: This is what ALL attackers wear, as it will help optimise your melee attacks to te full extent of your weaponry.

Helm: Torva Full Helm / Void Melee Helm / Bandos Helm

Top: Torva Platebody / Void Top / Bandos Chestplate

Bottoms: Torva Platelegs / Void Bottoms / Bandos Tassets

Gloves: Torva Gloves or Goliaths (Remember, torva has a set effect, this includes the gloves) / Void Gloves / Barrows Gloves / Bandos Gloves

Boots: Torva Boots or Steadfast Boots (Same applies to the boots, Torva Boots required for the set effects) / Bandos Boots / Dragon Boots

Shield Switch (Incase a tank dies): Chaotic Kiteshield / Divine Spirit Shield / Bandos Warshield / Void Deflecter / Blessed Spirit Shield

Mainhand Weapons: Drygore Mace or Longsword or Rapier / Chaotic Maul / Chaotic Rapier

Offhabd Weapons: Off-Hand Drygore Mace or Longsword or Rapier / Chaotic Rapier / Dragon Defender

Amulet: Saradmins Whisper / Amulet of Fury / Amulet of Glory

Ring: Warrior i or Onyx Ring i / Warrior Ring/ Ring of Life

Cape: Tokhaar Kal (or completionist / max cape) / Skill Cape / Cape of Legends.

Inventory: 1 summoning flask, 1 adrenaline flask, 1 overload flask, 1 prayer renewal flask, Steel of Legends scrolls or Iron Within scrolls(roughly 1k will do), 3 prayer potion flasks, rest in rocktails.

Familiar: Steel Titan / Iron Titan

Please remember, if voiding, you need 3 pieces, and a helm for the set effects to work.

All you do is soul split on melee phase, and protects/deflects on the rest. Spam your titans specs onto the king, as this will make the kill alot faster (recently jagex nerfed titans, so may be better to bring along a uni instead.). Keep vocal to your team if the king is on you at any point, and shout to the tanks as and when to provoke it. Action bars should look like this.

The guide should help you know what to wear. Best of luck once again, and go get that drygore loot :D :D :D
