WRITE FOR THE TIMES - SUBMIT A GUEST ARTICLE:

Remember, YOU can write an article for the Tip.It Times! You can apply to write full time, or just submit a "one-off" guest article any time you want! Our editors will work with you to ensure that your article is ready for publication. All guest articles can be submitted to @tripsis or any other Editorial Panel member. For more information, including details on how to apply full time, read this forum thread: http://forum.tip.it/topic/209138-how-to-write-for-the-tipit-times/

I'd like to remind people of the rules pertaining to Times threads:

[hide=Read these rules before posting in this thread]

Rampant flame wars have taken control of virtually every week's times discussion topics. The following guidelines must be followed when posting on this topic. Posts that ignore these guidelines will be removed.

1. You are invited and welcome to express like or dislike on articles and a particular author's writing style. It is not acceptable, however, to flame or personally insult an author. Posts that aren't anything but an attack will be removed from the topic.

2. Spelling and grammar errors can be reported to tripsis by PMing her and they will be fixed promptly. It is not necessary to post them on the discussion topic.

3. Off topic posts that do not discuss the content of that week's articles will be removed. This is not the place to discuss the direction of the times, how much you love or hate the times, etc. Off topic posts will be removed.

By keeping within these guidelines, Times discussion topics will mean more for the Panel and Administration than just a place for flame wars. Flame wars do not provide any useful feedback to the Times, which is mainly what we're aiming for with these topics: feedback.

This policy is effective as of now, November 17, 2010. Any posts prior to the creation of this policy may or may not be removed according to the new guidelines.

[/hide]

When replying please make sure to clarify the article you are replying to! Thanks!

If you spot any typos or mistakes in an article then please PM them to @tripsis. :)

Enjoy the articles!

I thought the article on construction was a rather enjoyable read.

I found the infatuated fawning over Suomi by The Floating Pen to be nauseating, but then that's nothing new. His continued insistence throughout the article that there is something immensely wondrous about anticipated 5b achievement, and that those of us who happen to disagree with this (for all sorts of reasons) are somehow "malevolent" and jealous was completely unconvincing, irritating and the sort of response one might expect from a devout follower when someone had dared to blaspheme against their God.

I usually do enjoy the Times, and the short review of the history of Construction was a nice read.

However, that second... well, I hesitate to call it "article"... that was pure whatthe[bleep]ery. "boldly expanding the horizons of human achievement"? "eternally record his name in the annals of history"???

I've seen a lot of brown nosing and asskissing in my life, but this has to take the cake. Whatever the author was smoking, I want some of that stuff.

Apparently you didn't get the memo, Deacon; spending countless hours, day after day, month after month, year after year, playing an online video game is amongst the loftiest human achievements one can aspire to.

Before the usual gang commence with their typical tirades, though I disagree, I can understand why people might admire someone like Suomi in the context of RS. However, to insist that his "achievements" are "boldly expanding the horizons of human achievement" is outright delusional and sycophantic thinking. That's the sort of thing that should be propagated by Suomi's PR team/manager(if he ever chooses to get any), not someone writing for the Tip.It Times.

That Suomi article was by far the worst and most pathic article I have every seen in the Times. All that meshy crap about Suomi being such a great man among men is just sad. I will admit its impressive that hes almost 5B, but to write about it in such a way is sad. Frankly i expect better articles from The Floating Pen. The construction article was a nice short review of the skill.

Perhaps that's just a little harsh..some people may not like SUOMI due to character deficiencies (I don't really know him) or other things, he has still (almost) accomplished something that no one on RuneScape has. And even though I may not agree fully with the principal, I certainly wouldn't say it's a bad article, let alone the worst ever :(.

"Fight for what you believe in, and believe in what you're fighting for." Can games be art?

I do hope construction gets a rework that enables much nicer use of the skill and updates its outdated rewards like teleports so that more relevant ones can be added, and the toolboxes contain stuff that is more useful instead of stuff we now carry around with us all the time. Yes some things can just be obselete but I don't want to see so much removed that could be make more useful again.

Also, please let us do real re-design with moving rooms and a cleaner interface. It's horrible that I can't move my house around without destroying millions of gp invested in each room.
