Well, the poll is live and currently has 2,264 votes. I have to admit, I'm very curious to see how this will go.

My gut reaction is not to participate. When I started playing in 2005, everybody was complaining about the community and the deterioration "caused by miniclip". I remember feeling like I was so late to the party already. All this nostalgia is pointless. Also, I'd rather not get drawn into starting a new character from scratch and get 99-crazed again. Admittedly, I would love to roam the old game for a bit. Sadly, as a level 3, I wouldn't roam far :smile:.

 

Jagex clearly wants this badly, if they are promising to give everybody who votes the first month membership for free. Honestly, they're not gauging interest, they're advertising this heavily. That's not necessarily bad, I guess, but it does repulse me a bit.

 

Still, interesting times. I really wonder where this game is going.

 

On a sidenote, does anybody else think it strange Jagex has so few back-ups left of the game?

So the vote is on, going to be interesting watching it progress. The vote total after the entirity of today and also the weekend will be good. I don't think the 750k bracket is attainable or a healthy option for the servers anyway, so I'm expecting an outcome of between 250k-500k, maybe tipping over the 500k margin with some luck.

 

One thing I've wondered, a question to those of you that would play rs07, would you prefer it to receive major updates or not? I'd have thought there would a worry of them again changing the game a bit too far :P

 

I don't mean smaller updates like resting, interface conveniences, more like things such as GWD and soforth.

Level 3 - 500,000 or more votes:

2007 servers will come back as a separate entity to the main RuneScape game, with a dedicated development team, with no extra membership fee. These servers will receive regular maintenance, some content updates and integration of anti-bot technology if necessary.

Level 4 - 750,000 or more votes:

2007 Servers will come back as a separate entity to the main RuneScape game, with a larger dedicated development team with no extra membership fee and the free portion of the game available to all. These servers will receive continuous maintenance, modern anti-bot technology if necessary and - crucially - regular members' polls to determine which updates you want to see prioritised.

 

I understand the need for bugfix updates and such but real content updates would seem strange. Also I wonder would jagex design these from scratch or just follow things that were added the game game after 07 anyway.

 

The Grand Exchange is a likely candidate for addition, although I know a lot of players in support of 2007 are heavily against this, and I'd support it not being added. However it is part of everyday RS life, and I wonder how many would try to vote it in down to convenience. Updates could potentially ruin what people want out of 07 rs =/

I have to say thus far the numbers are rising quite slowly when compared to things like the free trade vote. Be interesting to see where it is at by midnight to then extrapolate an estimate of where it will be 13 days later when it shuts.

I can't actually believe this madness is being allowed to continue. Apparently they're mass mobilizing people who actually have no interest in playing RS 2007 by saying things like "Just vote yes, it won't do us any harm". What nonsense. It's having a distorting effect on the vote. These actually want to take away all the gains and improvements that have been made in the last 6 years, and take us back to the RS equivalent of the stone ages. The sort of stone age that most of them haven't even played and have a idealized view of. They're deluded reactionaries.

Even then, Free Trade was on rational grounds, and overwhelming popular -- even if we account for bots. Remember that the non-Free Trade era was universally despised. The only shocking thing about that debate was that suddenly all these people came out and said that they didn't want Free Trade back because they didn't want RWT/Bots back. That was shocking. The rest was not.

 

This current fiasco is merely a vocal minority, one that seems to tricking (for a lack of a better word) others into voting for something that is not only not in their interests, but they'd probably oppose if only they understood the implications. The actual preferences of the current player-base, I can say with some certainty, does not want to go back to 2007 and play pretend. It's just that their actual preferences are being distorted at the moment.

To anyone else considering to resubscribe to vote, get away cheaper by making a new account and subscribing with a 75% discount. Or, if you were going to spend the full amount anyway, make 4 accounts and vote for the cost of one.

Indeed, if they take this far enough, they could actually steal substantial resources from the main game to fund their little fantasy. It's sickening. Though, ultimately Jagex is to blame. They shut down (I think) RS2006 because they realized there was a niche market, and decided to cash in on it. So now these people have nowhere to go, and are running into Jagex's arms. I really like the idea of a fresh game, with everyone starting from scratch. But I'm really not a fan of this whole movement, all the arguments for it are usually so poorly done and they ignore so many valid criticisms. That and the supporters are usually unbearable to talk to.

The idea of a fresh game may be appealing to some, and I can see why, but personally, I have absolutely, no -- none at all, interest in starting my account again. I am also, I think, one of the few people that I know that never started another account again (I have tried, but never saw the appeal for me). I don't have that kind of time on my hands. These people who want a fresh game should just grab a private server or something. Not hold the current edition hostage.

I did mean the later vote, not that first ridiculous farce which was less a vote and more a test in how well people can code bots to trawl hiscores for names that haven't 'voted'.
