2007 - Old School RuneScape... You Vote! - [It's Here!]

Interesting Trivia: I'm doing Shield of Arrav with the same guy I originally completed it with back in 2004 and later Heroes Quest in 2007 as well.

Since membership is separate then your normal account/normal RS after the first month, do you think a lot of people will simply use an old account or a separate account, or just bundle it with their normal account?

 

EDIT: Also couldn't find anything on this, is there a rough ETA time-wise when they launch it?

it is not seperate. You have to buy EoCScape mems before you can purchase 07scape mems.

it is not seperate. You have to buy EoCScape mems before you can purchase 07scape mems.

 

Separate in the sense it's not included in our regular payments for the current game. I'll be playing 07RS on an old/separate account while keeping my current account a member on the main game.

Yeah everything so far has described 07scape fees as 'additional' which does directly imply they are an addition to normal members, not a separate entity; so $5 a month for 07scape means $10 total (roughly) from thw wording thus far.

Wonder how opening up the servers will affect the vote? Before it was vote and after the votes are counted you'll get a month of RS '07. Now it's vote now and you can start playing RS '07. That's gotta encourage players that cbf'd for voting to just vote yes to see what the fuss is about.

 

That said, it's a wonder in the Q&A that nobody asked about holiday events, emotes and non-tradeable holiday items. Has that been addressed anywhere? One option (easier to implement) is for holiday items and emotes to cross over if you have access to them in the main game. Another, more complicated option, is for Jagex to release an old school holiday event when the holiday rolls around. Just no rares please.

The alternate option is untradeable rares as holiday items, one supposes.

We are just over 250k votes now. Assuming that each vote is one person (which is probably not the case anyway) and reflects sincere interest in playing RS2007 (probably not), it would be more cost effective to pay membership for one month on a second account and vote again (hoping everybody else is this smart, which is probably not the case). Reaching to 500k votes means no more additional member fee for RS2007, so you earn back the investment of 1 month membership after just one month (2, because of the free first month after voting)

 

Ofcourse this could be considered cheating and gives Jagex false information, but it's just a major flaw in the set up of the tiers they should have thought about in the first place.

Best way to deal with rares would be if they had some way of tracking which accounts are Classic Veterans, and giving them a random selection. Yes it wouldn't be fair, but it'll be the closest thing to emulating the rare market in 07 that I can think of.

In theory having diango be able to give out all the pre-07 untradable holiday items wouldn't be that hard.

 

I mean somewhere in account data there has got to be a 'diango' block as it were which stores this info - could just make 07scape servers read it but only the first X entries (assuming of course the entires go in chronological order and that they always all exist as either 'no' or 'yes' meaning by defining entry X it could only read as far as easter 07)

I think a lottery type system would work best for rares... Might upset some people as they think they deserve them for being RSC players, but it is the fairest way to give them out.

Honestly (even though I do not intend to play) I'd like 07scape to remain rare free simply because it was be an interesting economic model to observe a rare-less rs and could potentially make a case for altering rares in live RS to be untradeble (with some form of forewarning and/or RS monetary compensation of course) - especially in the case of rares that are spiralling beyond max gp value because there are only very tiny* numbers left that actually move around.

 

*tiny in proportion to active players before anyone jumps down my throat about the few hundred or thousand of an item being quite a lot.

I agree with PoorLepRecon. Why not just make every single rare (holiday) item obtainable from Diango for free, and make it untradeable between players? This mechanism would be similar to how you can get back any holiday item from him that you've found but lost. Or just get rid of them altogether.

 

They were never supposed to be anything more than purely cosmetic items anyway, and there is absolutely no 'fair' way of giving them out if they're only obtainable through drop (from event in the game world) or lottery and trade (between players). A lottery is not fair either - it may be random, but only those people participating in the lottery stand a chance. Those who join 2007scape later have no way of getting one short of trading for one - and it's the same thing all over again.

 

Jagex has always lamented the unbalanced effect they had on the economy (being in effect the most expensive items). If anything, this is their chance to start with a clean slate. What else is the point of everyone starting from zero (level 1 stats, no bank) if they're just going to chuck in a bunch of holiday items at random, thereby creating unbalancing effects in the long run?

 

If you want to have them, just make them free and untradeable between players. Everybody's happy. Except for the people who had hoped to use them to gain a monetary advantage through speculation.

Like Lep said, that's probably the best mechanic. Sure, not everyone was around in RSC for them, but there's also no other way for ANYONE to get them. Otherwise they're just an empty data item floating around, unobtainable by any means. Well, unless your a JMod but that's cheating.

The best method to introduce rares is to make entirely new ones and implement them covertly. Introduce tradeable items in an inconspicuous way, and then suddenly discontinue them.
