  • and either scrap the additional fee making it come with normal RS membership or make it an alternate fee for 07scape without normal RS membership.

This is actually a really good idea. From what I understand, a lot of people have come back just to play 07Scape and have no interest in the main game at all. If they don't reach the level to make it one price for both, this, combined with OrTradeMe's idea of a reduced fee for both, would definitely be the way to go to ensure it's longevity.

That sums me up, 07Scape is the only reason I came back to RS and started paying Jagex again. If I have to pay for the main game as well then I'll just quit again. Most of my friends are in the same boat.

Give someone a cookie and soon they'll demand your entire factory. :boohoo:

See what I hate about this whole thing is you and all your friend were too ignorant to read in the first place and shouldn't have voted if your not willing to back it. Had Jagex been more upfront about how things were going to work there would have been less knee jerk reactions and this farse wouldn't have made it nearly this far.

So, just to clarify, you're saying we should've not tried to help it get to 500k+ votes because it might not get to 500k votes? Do you also tell people voting in politics is pointless because the dude you vote for might not win?

As far as the membership fees go, once my current membership runs out in about....2 months or so, I'm not sure how long it will because I'm still on that free month, and it doesn't show the membership card I used yet.

I won't renew it if the price stays the same, and I have to pay more just to play the one game. If I'm going to spend 13$ a month on a game, it's going to be for a bigger and better more popular game.

I support the addition of the servers, and I enjoy playing on them, which is why I voted for them. But that doesn't mean I'm willing to pay that much for it if it stays that way.

An old player from 2004-2011. I'm back for the 2007 servers, let's see how long this lasts.

I guess I wasn't clear. So, 2007scapers like you demand to be able to only play 2007scape at no extra charge (e.g., $5 on top of "RealScape"). Jagex does something "nice" (as far as a company can be nice), and yet you still demand more than what they gave you after they already said "It'll be this way."

So basically, you want it YOUR way. So your vote should be tossed out since you don't want to support the costs of aging software. Not only do Jagex have to ensure backwards compatibility with all future communication system (so 2007scape is still integrated into RuneScape and runs properly), they need to actively fix all the bugs they've already fixed that have damaging and game breaking issues. E.g., dueling arena, player-owned houses, quests, etc. Regardless of what YOU think, this costs MORE money than not supporting 2007scape.

To go back to the cookie factory analogy, it would be like an old cookie recipe having to be integrated with the current cookie making process. The cookie company goes "yes, we'll let you have it for more if there's not enough interest." You know why? Because it costs MORE to process these cookies. Similarly, if there is enough interest in this old cookie that they could integrate it into the current cookie making process and still make more money, they will.

bs/10... why do they keep giving into the whiners who are too lazy to deal with (bleeping) change....

They did this for free trade, and I'm willing to bet we'll get yet another "vote" like we did for that. Enough whining, the game will never be what it was in 2007, stop whining and move the f(leep) on people.

There will not be the same community, there will be only our current climate of bots, douchebaguettes and no honour (bleeps)

Because the changes over the past few years have been shite.

Think of it, everyone starting at level one, a brand new economy, able to make money off skilling and selling otherwise useless things (think of the first few whips). I doubt I'll ever play the "new" RS again. I'll def be playing this.

Not all of the changes over the past years have been bad. I think he was suggesting that if you don't enjoy the game like you used to then it's probably a good time to leave. The game doesn't stay alive by appealing to vet who in a few years time will leave because real life is more important.

No. You should have voted only if you were willing to pay even the most extreme additional cost at 50k votes or whatever it was. Nobody should have voted without being willing to live with whatever outcome the final vote was.

It's like signing a contract and not reading the fine print then attempting to sue the contractors because you didn't read it properly.

Whilst a clean slate economy is an exciting thing to experience, do people not realise that said economy is eventually just going to culminate in the exact same thing that currently exists in the main game?

Unless they add all the updates that happened from 2007-2012, no it won't.

The GE for example, was one of the biggest economic changing updates.

It encouraged Power training with it's convenience. Instead of fishing and cooking your own food, it was more efficient to just buy it straight from the GE...and then pay to cook later for levels. This caused raw resources to actually cost more than the end products.

Further updates in the game made certain skilling methods and products useless, while making others useful. Changing and fluctuating the prices as such.

The economy won't be even close to the same as the EOC game unless the same updates are made.

People bought all their fish to cook from World 2 Fally. The GE essentially took away the "he who shouts most frequently shouts best" system that operated beforehand, but the mechanics were still the same. If you think people didn't power train in 2007, you are either incredibly naive or being purposefully ignorant.

The reason cooked resources are worth so much less than their raw counterparts is XP potential. Raw resources have lots, cooked resources have none at all. That problems exists in both versions of the game.

Not necessarily. There were a lot of one-off events which shaped the economy we have now that probably won't happen in 07.

a) rares

b) gp things like statues, climbing boots, other updates which added tons of gp into game

c) Bonus weekends, which royally screwed up prices of items over a long period of time due to change in how demand works

d) ge, changed merchanting forever.

e) other new rare and highly expensive items which don't exist in 07 that are hard to obtain so the cost is exhorbitant.

None of these things mean the economy won't have the same ISSUES as the current game (xp potential of items) but it won't be identical or even all that similar.

If people were holding off from voting because they weren't going to pay an extra $15 then no one would be voting. It would not give a true result because people who would be interested would not vote.

So going by that logic, if there were 500k people who would play only if it cost no extra, but held off from voting, then they would never reach that 500k when ironically there would have been enough people to make it there.

I'm pretty sure Jagex never intended on actually charging people an extra $15, it was purely to get more people to vote, and for people to get their friends in to vote.

The fact that Jagex have even said things like voting to make your friends happy, etc, just shows that this whole voting thing is just smart marketing, and while it shows a fairly decent indication of interest, it's mostly the marketing thing!

I only voted after the 250k votes already where in. This means I voted for a version of 2007scape with no additional member fee and I only will play 2007scape for real, if this is the case. Saying I shouldn't have voted if I am not willing to pay an additional fee is not a valid statement, because my vote only changes the outcome if the 500k mark is reached which is what I want. In other words: I voted for a RS2007 that's playable without an additional fee and nothing else.

For the people who complain about not being able for RS2007 seperately, you can also see it this way: you are paying seperately for RS2007, but on top of that Jagex gives you a free EOC-cookie. Who would say no to a free cookie? I won't, even if I don't really like the cookie.

You misunderstand, the argument about separate payments is only about if it doesn't reach 500k votes and you have to pay an additional fee for 2007scape. Obviously if one of them is free it doesn't matter which one lol.

Damn you're arrogant. Must you always be so rude? (That's a rhetorical question, for your information. You really are one of the rudest people on this thread.)

In any case, your proposition makes no business sense. Pay up for the extra burden that a lack of interest will force or just don't play. Like I said before, it's not a matter of offering one or the other. It's a matter of offering BOTH. 2007scape is an extra burden. It will cost more to run both games in the manner Jagex is doing. Maybe paying your $7 (or whatever current membership is) may be enough if enough people pay. But I'm not Jagex and I don't know their financial record so I can't say. I'm sure they're savvy enough to make the proper decision.

But I can speak from experience in maintaining software. If you are forced to support say Windows XP through Windows 8, more money is going to go into making sure the aging Windows XP is taken care of than the modern Windows 7 or 8. Modern games use DirectX 10/11 yet also support XP with its aged DirectX 9. Do you realize how much effort it is to support two architectures that are radically different? I'm assuming not considering you're seriously complaining about a relatively small fee.

I'll talk in your language though. Oh boohoo you don't want to support RealScape! That's where Jagex's future is, not with this craptastic adventure called 2007scape. Bla bla repeat myself here. Did I say how Jagex's future is with modern enterprises, not games with worse graphics than Superman 64? Well I said it.

They don't lose. They're going to be making money regardless. You're the one who loses by not playing what you want to play. You think Jagex gives one bit about your $7? Not at all.

No it's like signing a contract that doesn't bind you at all, not liking how greedy the contractors become and just walking away. I'm not going to be suing Jagex over this they just won't get my irl gp, for 2007scape or EOCscape. They lose.

They don't lose. They're going to be making money regardless. You're the one who loses by not playing what you want to play. You think Jagex gives one bit about your $7? Not at all.

That was quite rude, I apologise. It's just irritating when people attack an argument I'm not making as if it's the one I'm making. I'm not arguing for 2007scape to be free.

It does make business sense. If Jagex offer just EOC, I will not buy members (like the thousands of people who came back to runescape for this). If they offer both and only both, I will not buy members (I'm sure many of the people who only want to play 2007 will agree).

Jagex will make money regardless. Just not as much. And less profit = a loss, in my books. I went without runescape just fine when they launched EOC and I'll do fine without Runescape again. I would love to PK in 2007scape but if Jagex want to make that difficult then I'll just forget about it.

Sure, Jagex may not care about any individual customer, but I'm not exactly a lone wolf with this way of thinking. It may seem that way here but that's just because there aren't many PKers or pures on Tip.It, they use other sites.

Good, hopefully it won't last, die out, and they'll grow a set and stick by the decisions they've made (EoC). I dislike EoC, but splitting the game into two was just moronic.

We’ve been overjoyed by the enthusiasm and goodwill amongst the community since the start of the poll. There is clearly a super passionate group of RuneScapers who have shown that they are nostalgic for some Old School gameplay. As a gesture of our own goodwill and an aspiration for this newly established community to flourish and hopefully grow we will NOT be charging the additional $5 membership fee for at least the next 6 months!

So that's pretty cool.
