PolarBearBlue
In the same way you argue that 2k7 player are afking on 2k13, I'm sure some are afking on 2k7 while actively enjoying the other. I would have to say this change has made the main game more positive as well. The player who truly dislike EoC have left, given a few still remain, but their numbers are small and they only wish to engage in some type of trolling. It's true that for the time there are no bots in 2k7, but in the main game we have seen how quickly bots return after Jagex introduce new bot tech into the game. We won't be able to say 2k7 is bot free for very long. Jagex will really have to start becoming creative. No, you can afk for several minutes at a time on eocscape cooking rocktails or at Artisans Workshop, or cutting ivy. Players on 07 scape actually have to play the game, I went afk whilst smelting bars for a minute the other day and ended up in Lumbridge. In addition to death actually meaning something in 07scape, the lack of so many make X options and the ability to actually get greater rewards for putting greater effort in using efficient skilling methods (which Jagex has killed in modern RS) all encourage people to pay attention and actually play the 07 servers whilst afking the EoC game. There is no punishement for afking in the EoC game, and very few skills reward you for paying attention any more. (Faster rocktails using the new interface is all I can think of) As for the bot thing, yes the bot developers will eventually come up with something that will take Jagex several months and broken promises to fix for two weeks. I was simply pointing out that the number of actual players on the EoC is inflated atm compared to the people playing 07. I never said afking was without penalty. Just saying you can still do it, so 2k7 number aren't entirely accurate (thou more so than 2k13 :P). And while I haven't played 2k7 recently, I have in the past. There have been times I've been afking and haven't gotten a random event. A friend of mine once popped over to 2k7 but wasn't as invested so if afk'd in 2k7 while actively engaging in 2k13. Now of course he died after 7 minutes, so jokes on him but to say you can't afk in 2k7 isn't right. It'd be more like afking in not recommended to do as the risk is much higher in 2k7. Sy_Accursed
Certainly a surge of advertising alone doesn't mean much, but the fact it neatly coincided with the vote flatlining and parameters being altered makes it a bit suspect to Jagex worrying about underperformanceThat's just conspiracy theories, it's reasonable that advertising increased the voting rate rather than the other way around. Of course they'd get the poll up before they start adding links to it everywhere. Yes, the poll is fishy, these polls always are (even stuff like Portal 2 early release promotion was fishy), and pop-ups are annoying (when will I be able to hide that stupid goblin?!), but these points in no way invalidate the level of interest people have expressed in the old servers. How is it a conspiracy theory?No-one said it was surprising advertising increased vote rates. The point was the fact the vote was out for a few days with a steady advertisement stream, then as it slowly died to very low vote rates they suddenly dragged 750k tier down to 500k and unleashed an avalanche of adverts. Also no-one has remotely claimed that what Jagex did invalidates people's votes, only that the way Jagex handled it makes it very obvious what tier they wanted because they pulled out big pr stunts every time the vote flagged plus modified the vote tiers plus went from polling to 'guage interest about possibly doing it' to 'omg we have a server out now!!!!!!' plus inspite of where the vote ended up gave out 6 months of free use anyway. Arcley
How is it a conspiracy theory?No-one said it was surprising advertising increased vote rates. The point is, you've said advertising only happened because voting slowed down. I say they advertised because they wanted to reach the members who don't follow the front page actively as well (regardless of the vote count at the time). Apparently there were a lot of them. The point was the fact the vote was out for a few days with a steady advertisement stream, then as it slowly died to very low vote rates they suddenly dragged 750k tier down to 500kThat part is true, although they didn't move the perks that would increase costs the most. And yes, they likely knew what goals they wanted to achieve and at least part of the poll was an illusion. Especially the extra fee part didn't seem realistic, 07scape would die so much faster if they kept that. Also no-one has remotely claimed that what Jagex did invalidates people's votes, only that the way Jagex handled it makes it very obvious what tier they wantedNot true that nobody claimed it, many people were saying they only got over 250k votes because they started spamming about it everywhere. Basically saying that votes past 250k shouldn't count because Jagex helped too much to reach them <.< Don't really have much to add, just think that people are reading way too much into a simple publicity stunt that probably got them a fair amount of new members, at least for a while. Sy_Accursed
Saying they only achieved something due to the spam is in no way, shape or form the same as saying the votes should be discounted. It is just an observation of causality, just because people note that Jagex pulled a big PR stunt that caused the vote to do more does not mean they are discrediting the votes it garnered. Yes, they wanted to reach the members who don't follow the front page because the vote was flatlining. Edit: Doing this serves Jagex's best interests (making money) and has precedent with the wilderness vote and possibly others. The real question is why wouldn't they do this? Omali
Playing RS2007 has angered me to today's RuneScape. Not because of the content, not because of Evolution of Combat or any other implemented features. It's because of the tick. In OldScape I can move stuff in my bank and inventory incredibly quickly and with no pause. In the regular RuneScape you can't do this. If you move stuff too fast it'll either snap back into place or it won't be picked up at all. It's crap.

Leik
Bonesaw Bamf just got the first fire cape in RS07, livestreaming as well. It was pretty damn intense lol. He downed Jad on his very last prayer point (flashing of course). Was pretty amazing to watch. EDIT: LIVERPOOL WILL WIN THE PREMIER LEAGUE THIS SEASON. R_2_H
I agree with some of the others that said, it's just not going to be the same. My friends from 06 and 07 won't be there, and I've moved on. So have they. While it would be cool to run around for 20 mins and maybe PK once, the fact that they're not opening this to f2pers (which does cut down on bots) in my mind means the idea won't go very far. In 6-12 months it probably won't be much more active than RSC. If they're trying to bring the old players back - obviously not members anymore - I don't get why they would make it p2p... Also, I'm pretty sure more players pked in f2p, so making only p2p servers available (! assumption) just... doesn't make sense. It's flawed but then it's flawed on top of that. .. Kaida23
"I smell a lotta "if" comin' off this plan." :P I think it's a bad idea to implement free access this soon. They need to give 07Scape a chance to establish itself, to build an internal community and economy and then, maybe, open up access for free. Maybe only do it a couple times a year for a couple of weeks to get interest built up and pull in new subscribers. Full free access this early is a bad idea. Check out my blog to read the Adventures of a Big Damn (F2P) Hero. THE place for all free players to connect, hang out and talk about how awesome it is to be F2P. So, Kaida is the real version of every fictional science-badass? That explains a lot, actually...
