2 weeks ago Jagex figures out the most popular viewing mode is software.

So they remove it.

Sorry, what?

How convenient, I come to post this and there's already a discussion on it... And of course I get ninja'd on the way.

... at least you still have your health ...

So what's the point of changing run energy like that without changing anything else? The system was already a tad too generous with run energy, but now Agility is made less useful for no apparent reason.

Thats JAGEX, they like to mess up with the game then they fix it, like they have done something to us

Because Jagex always does upgrades like a construction worker at a college campus, knock down everything you need to work on and then rebuild it one by one so the place is littered with scaffolding and garbage for a year or so. You can see this in RS2007, the dramatic differences in various cities and areas in terms of polish and functionality.

Software mode is bloody terrible anyway. If you are using a machine which can only support software mode, it is not Jagex's problem. This is 2013, therefore, a $250.00 Walmart tower can run RS in OpenGL or DirectX. If you don't have $250.00, McDonald's hires anyone who can make it to work on time a few times a week. You can buy a 30 dollar video card from an online retailer if your motherboard has a PCI/PCIe slot, which can run DirectX or OpenGL at a high resolution and max settings or minimum settings as well.

Software mode limits what they can add to their engine anyways. Adding something like ambient occlusion in their software renderer would require hundreds, even thousands of lines of codes as each pixel has to be calculated and manipulated to get accurate readings. In native coding, it can be done in much less and runs much faster as well as reduces work load the CPU has to do for other things in the game. The time spent adding features to something a Blackberry 8800 could run could be better spent on the HTML5 engine or moving towards the future and not the past.

And running is already dead, you can treleport anywhere you want in runescape.

Where is abilty to use world map to travel?

Where is shortcuts use in pathfinding?

New magic weapon for mid-high lvl. Great! But where are my 90lvl magic and ranger weapons?

I'm glad F2P is getting a bit of content, I wonder if Death Plateau is also added, would be nice. Anyway F2P still deserves KBD and fletching (yes the very best skill - sorry (would help in dg I think)) imo, but ok.

Rebalancing dual wield is required, I hope it's done well and not in the usual Jagex nuke-it-or-nuke-the-competition style balancing.

Death Plateau should. It's doesn't have an agility requirement and is only in Burthope.

Some nice changes there. Nice that f2p is getting some underused p2p content but not sure how I feel about opening p2p skills to f2p though.

it's only to level 5, so it's a nice incentive for f2p players and will do more good than harm.

Not trying to argue that it's good or anything, but software mode is all that will run on my girlfriend's Macbook Pro, new last year. Even then, it's still terribly laggy.

Then again, it is a mac :P

That's.. odd.. mac book pro should support openGL easily.

my 2010 macbook pro can do opengl in the client but only on min settings.

The days of not updating the F2P game because it's the free version is an outdated view to be honest.

Whilst P2P gets progressively and steadily bigger, the F2P game has remained almost static in its actual playable content. I'm not saying Jagex should create content for F2P as that would be terrible; but I do agree with others here that P2P content that is really old and almost unused by the general population, should be made F2P.

Fletching and the KBD should definitely be made F2P, maybe even the KQ.

I'd reiterate Sylpheed's sentiments. Jagex doesn't have the advertisement power that other MMORPG's have (you aren't going to find B-class celebrities on television advertisements for it like WoW, for instance). So the fact that RS has a major f2p component and the game is easily accessible on the Internet has been what made RS so successful. Should F2p get regular updates? No. But it should be well taken care of. They are a vital part of the P2p machine, potentially. I think the new Jagex ownership has forgotten that. The old philosophy was that F2p was relatively fun but not as fun or as expansive as P2p, thus it encouraged people to subscribe. The new philosophy seems to be that "We'll just make F2p so miserable and neglected that they will have no choice buy to subscribe." That strategy works on older players and people who know about the intricacies of P2p but it does nothing for new players to RS in general: if they see that F2p is a wasteland, then why would they want to try out P2p?

One of the strengths of the old days when F2p was thriving and I think (someone correct me on this if I am wrong) F2p outnumbered P2p by 9-1 or something. The advantage of that is that you don't need the same people hooked onto the game subscribing for long periods of time, you can just reshuffle new players into the P2p base and so forth. Now, though, that F2p is dying, you see things like Gold P2p, which is an attempt to compensate for that. There are so few players in F2p that now Jagex tries to sign members for yearly deals. So yes, F2p needs to be rejuvenated, it's vital to the sustainability of RS. I say this as someone who hasn't played F2p for years, has no intention of going back, and only plays RS when he has P2p.

...Oddly enough the only thing I'm looking forward to is the crackdown on gambling. It's about bloody time they earnt their money using Runescape skills (gather, kill, stake etc) rather then sit around GE scamming people like a 1-person casino.

And the GM Quest this coming week. Finally some lore on Guthix.

I probably misread the newspost but it sounded more as if this month would just be the host to some community brainstorming session? That just seemed like a hold-over to me since we've had this indirectly mentioned to us in the previous months from various j-mods. I didn't think we'd actually get anything this month. That's pleasantly surprising if we do.

Typical stereotyping. I've been hosting gambling games for 2 years and have yet to scam a single person. Yes, there are many scam clans, but there are also established clans that condone scamming and will refund any scam that occurs in them. My clan for example.

I agree gambling has led to more rwt and such, but no different than stakers selling gp.

If you want to see a truly legit clan check out "flowers".

Thanks,

Vann

Like any other trust trade, I could care less about the people who scam in gambling. The widespread use and detrimental nature of gambling in itself, not to mention the Grand Exchange and area outside of it have been successfully shit on by gambling clans in just about every server, is one of the cancers that is killing RuneScape, and if I were heading Jagex I would've put my foot down FAR earlier and completely rid the game of the items people use, and if a person directs someone to IRC to circumvent the lack of in-game gambling items, they'd be perma-muted on the first offense with no appeal.

Omali... I... I... thought you were better than this.

Irregardless, I agree with your main point. Gambling is eating away at the people's interest in the game. One little "transaction" can make or break you in an instant. Either you get a load of money you didn't earn, feel overwhelmed and unaccomplished, or you lose a ton of money and get frustrated. No matter which way you slice it, gambling is also a scam. Not only can they just nab your money and run, but the hosts are profiting off of you with their 55-45 odds. If you play their game you lose.
