It would be a design flaw if it was true for all abilities. I think the tradeoff is quite well balanced, a highly powerful ability at the cost of no movement. It adds more judgement on when it's appropriate to use them, and gets the player to plan ahead.

 

It is true for all abilites? The only ones it doesn't effect are instant cast abilities, which makes sense, and possibly snipe but I haven't used that in so long I can't be sure of that.

IIRC its only the case for some of the abilities marked "Combo attack". I know flurry allows you to run from it, but rapid fire doesn't. Damn inconsistencies.

 

Edit: Trying it out now and a single click won't halt most combo attacks, however double clicking away will. Odd.

 

My guess is the single click vs double click is to ensure you as the user actually wanted to cancel the ability, so that a misclick when you didn't want to doesn't cancel the ability and you lost the combo.

ON the abilities thing, i'm 99% sure if you spam click away while doing a combo attack you move away, a single click wont do it.... died on contains so many times due to this :P

No, you're just terrible at tanking Nex. You die on every phase, most often Shadow when attacking. Silly.

Alot of butthurt from the fanboys here over one little vent.

I must of hit a nerve or an obvious shortcomming of EOC.

Also, for the record I have played EOC since like the first week of release and I know what all the abilities do and I'm getting tired of punting everything to momentum because the most useful abilities lock you in place like an idiot.

I managed Kree with far inferior stats and combat potential to your own, using abilities without momentum and had no problem whatsoever. Perhaps you should reflect on your own performance first, and in future not use combo abilities which, tactically speaking, amount to a "stab in the dark" since you don't know what attacks are coming your way, and therefore can't possibly defend yourself if the worst happens.

I agree there are some shortcomings that need to be fixed, and locking you in place after using certain abilities is one of them - Although you can move if you spam click and thus is could be intended to stop you accidentally stopping the ability.

 

But to write-off a whole update over a few, easy to get around, shortcomings is pretty crazy.

 

I, personally, managed to do the quest without getting close to dying, in void, with 85 defence while using abilities - So I don't think you can blame these shortcomings for your inability to survive, rather it was your lack of knowledge and experience.

Back on topic, was fairly disappointed that Karshai wasn't involved. Unless I'm much mistaken, he was after a balance between the warring Mahjarrat.. anyone thinking what I'm thinking?

He's clearly a reasonable chap, becoming good friends with the player with his release, and after the revelations towards the end of TWW, I can see him becoming strongly linked in with the task Guthix sets the player, aiding him (or her) greatly.

Only times I died was from getting crushed by several giant purple balls.

And then I learned to stand still for a second so that the balls can get past me, then just follow them without running into them.

Nothing "locks you in place", but combo attacks might delay your movement by a tick or two. Just don't use combo abilities when you predict an attack that requires you to dodge. Just because you're bad doesn't mean the game is bad.

I hate the EoC, but I've never had a problem cancelling out of a channeled ability.

 

Whilst the game appears to lock you in place for one tick, your character runs off to the new location very quickly - you were in fact there all along, but your client didn't catch up because it was too busy displaying the attack animation.

FYI fanboy legion:

Threshold combos lock you in place.

Basic combos do not.

I don't have lag which will cause my character to zip around after animations.

FYI chap who doesn't seem to want to give EoC the chance it deserves:

 

We're not fanboys (or girls)

Read what others have said.

The lag will not cause you to zip around. The animation will lock you in place, but you will theoretically be elsewhere, just shown to be in the original spot.

You should be able to manually cancel it by using Escape or Surge though.

Surge and Escape does both, it moves you (faster than normal movement) and interrupts channeled spells, and builds adrenaline while you are at it, win win win.

 

But I agree, if anything abilities actually HELPS in these kind of tactic heavy combats, as it means you won't have to 'find' the monster again if it runs (or you run it) off the screen. Just a matter of experience and skill that one would normally pick up on the way when using abilities.
